Anna, I just LOVE your videos and your "realness" . We have ALL been at the beginning of learning a craft, and if we are honest with ourselves, we continue to learn as time goes on, even if we have done said craft for 30 years. Thank you so much for sharing your learning process with us. I have "been there, done that". I also love to sew and my newest journey is to learn quilting. I watch Quilt Roadies and you have inspired me to try that journey. I used to embroider and have decided to also revisit that craft. I am so taken with the coloring of a piece with crayons then embroidering the outline, then putting that piece into a quilt. I know very little about quilting, so my journey will be much like your journey into the cross stitch world, trial and error. Thank you again, and please never change. Wish I lived in Oregon (I am in Pennsylvania) so I could visit The Bee. BTW, I love Michele Bendy's Christmas Tree done as a Charlie Brown tree. I would do it exactly like you have done it. Much love.........

First Thursday looks like so much fun! Bonus for Beth being there. Love your Needlework finish and WIP’s. I was taught cross stitch in the 80’s and it was DMC and usually I used 2 threads so I would use loop method for first stitch and then the first part of the X and then go back and cross them. I was also taught that my back should look as good as the front and believe me, my Mom ALWAYS checks my back first, lol. But now with using variegated threads, I cross each stitch for I want to get the variegation to come across on the piece that I am stitching. I think what is most important is that you cross your stitches all the same way but this was again how I was taught. As you develop your stitchy skills, your back will develop too. Just remember to enjoy the process and the learning. I like your Charlie Brown tree.

Anna I've found I must take a simple piece to do at similar gatherings and get teased about how little I get done but I love to see what others are stitching and that leads to discussion/chat ..... or else I come home and need to unpick! Yet I've always enjoyed my time with like-minded stitchers so no loss but gained and learned. Win win.

Hi Anna, thanks for your wonderful and sometimes hilarious video😜...you were asking about stitching the x at one time...that “rule” is Floss that is of one dye can be stitched as an x or stitching one cross of the the number given on the chart and then come back...the over dyed floss or “fancy floss” should be a complete x before going on to the next x due to the variegation that will give the variation of colors to your piece...hope this helps...have a good trip where ever the roads take you...enjoyed you filming at Acorns and Threads...best wishes in all you do❤️

I used a seam ripper , very carefully, today to take out approx 250 stitches. Not fun but well worth it. I had put the wrong color on the project. Did not double check the symbol. Lesson learned. I know when using the variegated threads you need to take off two strands together from the bunch. Then I pin stitch to start, and do one cross at a time. If you do not, you end up not getting the varied look. When using solid colors I take longer lengths so that I can do the loop start and then I do one stitch at a time. Just my preference for that. Not sure if that made sense. I have been watching alot of tutorials for tips and tricks. It is the only way I can learn as I do not have a group to join in with around here. Not for cross stitching anyway. Thanks for sharing Happy stitching :)

ort noun Usually orts. a scrap or morsel of food left at a meal. Personally, I'm not saving those.... And, since it is the 12th, someone probably suggested to you that if you are stitching with a variegated (hand-dyed) thread you should complete each cross-stitch before going to the next one. Most DMC is not variegated so you can stitch in rows back and forth - up and down. To get the true joy of variegated thread in your project, you have to stitch each one completely before moving on to the next....IMO....

If you are using overdyed thread, you should complete each stitch individually. If you don't, you will lose the effect of color variation. If you are using DMC or a thread with no variation, you can speed up by doing one leg of the x in one direction, and then go back in the other direction. I am a stitching baby, but that is one thing I have learned the hard way. Why spend money on fancy thread and not get the benefit of it?

I hate to say it in the past I have just used fusible batting and masking taped the back...but I just learned about prepping with poster board...and then a framer told me about pinning...I think what ever rocks your boat is ok...no one is going to see the back but you :)

They carry readers at Micheal's next to the floss, Target, Fred Meyer, Walmart, almost every drug store and a lot of grocery stores. So, no worries, look at your local drug store. They'll be over in the "drugs" section.

Melissa Johnson 3.25s and up are very difficult to find. I know, because I've tried. I finally broke down and put out for MagEyes from Amazon.
