Nick, thanks for continuing to thrash on BBC's. It seems every video being posted now is about the LS platform, which is nice but, IMO nothing can match a big block with how easily they make hp/torque. This is a 87 octane pump gas motor making 454/538!!!

Finally a video testing an engine that an average Joe can afford!!! In my opinion 781s are the best Oem open chamber large oval port heads made! I'm currently helping a fellow build a 396 for his 71 Chevelle, and using 781s. We're using a Comp Cams 280 Magnum hydraulic flat tappet camshaft. It has .130 dome pistons and will make good weekend car. Keep the videos coming on these mild street motors!

Very impressive torque numbers for such low compression and stock valve sizes! That cam profile is very close to the LS6 cam, I ran the roller version in my 468. It was great for the street!

I ended up picking up a set of ported 781’s already dressed with 2.25/1.88 11/32 valves. Once they are cleaned, I’ll get them flowed and see what we can do to gain any. They’ve been milled/angle milled too, but we’ll work around that once o figure how much has been removed lol.

Sir I am in desperate need of your help. So sorry to bother you. You helped me figure out what was wrong with my 461 mark 4 bbc 781 heads and told me the lunati retro fit hydraulic roller lifters were my problem and you were right. 1 of them is a little springy while the others are not. Problem is I dumped all my money in this build and you can't buy that lifter right now. (Come in set of 2) any who I didn't know if you had any of those lifters laying around I could buy off you. I know you said you used to use them. I live in springfield missouri and can pay you to mail. Any who if not no big deal and sorry for bothering you otherwise. I am desperate to hear my baby rumble again as I've only drove ot twice. Same engine specs you build almost exact. Anywho love your videos thanks

Interesting to see, thanks Nick! I’ve always been a small block guy but have gotten intrigued by the big blocks. I always figured the swap would mess up suspension, troubles with exhaust; cooling, etc in an early 70s Camaro. Like to hear your thoughts

Thx again nick! Quick question. I am running a 1037 marine head gasket on my 78 454 build. I drilled the bottom three holes to match gasket for cooling. Do i need to make some kind of hole at the front of the block as well, as there is the square hole in the gasket but nothing in the block? Thanks

I'm in AZ bit far for me but have a 496 big block chevy with skip white heads and edelbrock street tunnel ram, mark IV block w/splayed mains though the though the center three already o-ringed. The cam is a melling hydraulic roller 242 248 @50 112 lobe sep, 560 580 lift respectively hoping for around 10.5 compression as i live at 4000 feet elevation do not yet have pistons and need to have the block fixed because the front and rear mains are 2 bolts that walk. Or possibly have them doweled? Is this something you mite be interested in after the 1st of the year sometime?
