Raptors are really restricted in stock form. I owned a 660 for 10 years. Stock it made 33hp, just by bolting a air filter to the airbox, removing the air box lid, rejetting the carbs and a full exhaust it made 50hp. Port the head, high comp piston and big cam puts it around 65hp to the wheels.

Never owned one, but had three different friends who did. It's hard to describe riding them. The power is so corrupting. A unique experience thanks to Honda bailing on their version. We were going to get a race division. Too many people with no business bought them and soon after got bitten.

@@triple6758 Yeah, I am looking at buying another one to go along side my Raptor. The Raptor will probably be my go to for trail riding, but the Zilla will be my wide open sandy riding quad. The adrenaline of that 500 2 stroke is just so sick. Yeah, it will make you pay. What got me a few times was gassing it too hard coming into a berm. The g forces it would make coming out of the turn would push me into the quad and throw me off toward the outside. It's so weird because my Raptor has nearly 60hp to the rear wheel and has never done that to me. Luckily those types of wipe outs just result in the quad coasting to a stall and me thrown on the ground without injury. That thing was so intense though.

@jonruger2 жыл бұрын
That never happened lol a banshee makes considerably more power than a turd RM500 ever could. RM500s were a joke that’s why they quit making them. Never anywhere close to the other 500s powerwise barely above the RM250 of the time the Banshee twin is a road racing engine that made a shit load of power all through the band and revved to the moon.
@johndoran32742 жыл бұрын
@@jonruger obviously you have never owned or ridden either of them because I consistently smoked Banshees with my LT500 without it being even close. A Honda 250R gave me a better race than a Banshee. @@johndoran3274 they advertised like 50 hp on those at the time and we all laughed because the YZ,KX and CR were all also advertising that level and actually felt like it. The YZ 490 the worst of those 3 still destroyed any RM500 the banshees advertised like 30 something horsepower but came from a crotch rocket that made 50+ a set of pipes which almost everyone does and they come alive. The Banshee also revs out way different than any of the dirt bikes of the time could ever dream of anyone who was riding when all these were new knows this stuff. It was a poorly hidden secret how powerful banshees were and obviously truth how slow and terrible the big bore Suzuki’s were.
@johndoran32742 жыл бұрын
@@jonruger you do understand you are talking about bikes when you say CR, YZ, and RM, we are talking about quads. The LT500 motor has zero in common with an RM motor besides being a 2 stroke, because Suzuki never made a water cooled 500 CC RM.The Banshee motor was never used in anything but a banshee. It had more in common with a rotax snowmobile motor than a crotch rocket. I bought my LT 500 brand new in 1988 and raced it for 3 years. In that time, I can honestly say, nothing touched an LT500 except another LT500. Whoever is giving you the information you are getting is misinformed to say the least.

it depends how healthy each engine is and how the bikes are setup, rider weight and skill comes into play plus the type of terrain your racing on. The quadzilla did an honest 80mph out of the box about 5mph faster on top than the raptor. it will launch better on hard pack dirt or pavement and can be geared to go well over 85mph on radar, in a longer race the zuki will win imho. The raptor will launch better in loose dirt it would need a gearing change to match the zilla on top.

Good job to the rider but I’ll never ever understand my ppl continue to use the clutch lever when up shifting during a drag race 🤦♂️ It only slows you down. These transmissions are non-synchronized and have straight-cut gears. A simple blip of the throttle while simultaneously clicking the shift lever is alllll you need to do. Clutch is only needed to get the vehicle moving and to bring vehicle to a stop without stalling the engine. Works on everything from a KX65 to a Hayabusa!
@SPHYNX997522 жыл бұрын
Shhh! Not everyone needs to know about speed shifting.. lol 😆 it works on the 1982 Volkswagen Rabbit as well as most stick shift vehicles. I like your explanation to blip the throttle.. it drops RPMs just enough for the gears to slide while not disengaging the clutch. You would be a fun person to race against, you seem knowledgeable about the intricate techniques needed to push the envelope. 😉

It would have ended up the same if it was a 700cc 2 stroke though.

Not really you must have never ridden a Two Stroke 500 ?

@@gentrydebbie1040 watch how late the raptor leaves then after they are both moving the gap stays the same. Most drag races are won by the driver not the machine. Both machines make about the same power but the raptor has better suspension so mechanically it has a advantage if the gearing and tires are comparable.

@@outinthebackyard7579 I am 70 years old I grew up on Two strokes and still ride not race You are clueless , Until you have actually Ridden one How could you know ? When The IPA got involved in Boat engines the Transfer to 4 strokes In motocross a 250 Two stroke were racing 450 4 strokes ? a Honda 250 Ported & polisned Carbed up will run 90 mph ? The suspenssion is way better Power Band , But speed a 4 stroke is out . You have to know how to ride a Two stroke ? I had a yamaha 500 Thumper if you know what is . in Third Gear i could roll on the throttle and the front end would start coming up until you let off . I have experienced living in the two stroke days. a two stroke is like driving a Honda Civic not everyone can do it The 4 stroke has twice the Torque so you do a lot of shifting to keep the rpm's up ? But ecceleration the 4 Stroke looses ? Go I am 70 and i can still run a straight line ,You have never experienced The Power of a Built & Tuned 2 stroke ? Have you ?

@Davido502 жыл бұрын
Exactly. The Raptor rider didn't know how to ride that well.

Just think! Someday you'll be coordinated enough to make the switch to dirtbikes!
Everyone that is age 50 or older Knows a Two Stroke Yahama 460 -480 was to much for 90 % of Riders . The Honda 250 was Hold on fro dear Life ? Of course Back Then when i got a new Two Stroke I pulled The cylinder and it went out to be ported & Polished , Then it was ready ?

QuadZilla was king, followed closely by the Yamaha 350 Banshee. Both hard to ride without dying! Yeah, even the 250R was considered pretty wild… But everything was pretty high-strung back then. It’s like they took a step back, probably for reliability.

That 500 wasn't representing the 2 strokes that I know.

The raptors are detuned and make basically the same hp as the yfz450 but once tuned they make like 10 hp more give or take
@DoubleD.Racing2 жыл бұрын
Yep just like the quadzilla they gain substantial amounts of power after you add an exhaust and change the jetting.
