I think your conclusion is the most astute. The FED will (fight) not raise rates and the status quo is the most likely scenario. I feel the fear of inflation will be with us so long (as it has) that inflation sensitive stocks will be neglected (feared) for inflation resistant sectors.
@InvestingwithDrDan3 жыл бұрын
that is an interesting take. I notice the mainstream media has finally started talking about inflation, so maybe it will creep into investors' minds.

Hey Dan, I was looking a bit deeper in the insurance industry (one where I'm really not at home to be transparant, so it's likely I'm missing some nuances, the industry is quite versatile). Noticed that most (of not all) of the US insurance companies are quite a bit above (or at the least back up to) their pre-covid levels (Metlife & Prudential to give 2 big ones). But in Europe they are at most back up-to their previous levels, with quite some which are lagging behind: To name a few: AXA (French) -10% lower), Legal & General (UK) - 10% lower, Munich RE (Germany) 20% lower) and Swiss RE (25% lower) Not surprisingly I looked most into Swiss & Munich, both seem to have been hit quite hard by Covid, but especially Swiss RE seems to have a strong foundation to overcome the tough year (2020 showed 700m net loss; if they "exclude" the COVID related costs it would have been 2.2b billion net income). Also in 2021 they seem to be getting back with a Q1 net income of 330m (843m when excluding covid). Naturally we shouldn't just overlook the whole Covid factor, it hit these guys strongly which is clearly the reason why they are still reporting far below their 2019 market cap. But looking ahead I see strong cashflow/solvancy, high dividend yield (7%) + room to grow the share price by 25%. To me it seems like a relatively safe and undervalued stock (so I bought some :)), as you are also looking for value in this overheating market, I thought to drop you the idea (if not the company, the sector ;))

Thank you very much for bringing up this very important topic. In 5 years we will know more and the word "if".... will be king... LOL. However, we will write a new chapter in financial history soon. This is a total new situation. I have been very defensive with my investments lately. 10-20% in gold and silver, physical / etf real estate, great dividend blue chips etc. these is all you can doo at the moment. I also believe that quality pharmaceuticals will do great in the future. Nobody will complain if there is a price increase in the range of the inflation.

If it works like it did in the early 2000s, good tech companies will take a hit as well as less-good companies. So, hopefully there will be some good deals, but companies in my portfolio like BABA, BIDU and ANET will probably also take a hit.
@InvestingwithDrDan3 жыл бұрын
Hey Owen! Yeah, the market usually throws the good out with the bad (AKA panic selling). Hopefully that's what happens and some good deals arise.
The low interest rates are like heroin to the government/stock market/home buyers. The FED cannot have them go cold turkey. LOL. I'm fully invested at the moment. But except for Amazon and Berkshire, nearly all my holdings pay a reasonable dividend. I will probably just have to ride this one out.
@InvestingwithDrDan3 жыл бұрын
I'm with you. With inflation concerns, it's hard to hold more than maybe 10% cash. So I won't be scooping up too many bargains if we have a crash. But, I can always sell stuff like PG and WMT and buy stocks that dropped the most.
