I’m loving your channel! For the ground pork, oh my gosh I love making burgers with them, or tacos, sloppy joes, or just cook it with some green beans. It’s one of my favorite proteins to cook and eat.

I'll have to try it in sloppy joes next time. Never thought about that ☺️ plain ground sausage is definitely something I'm not used to using as often. Thank you for the suggestions

We cook our beans with the ham steaks, cut into small pieces, it gives the beans a delicious flavor and the steaks don't dry up.

I'll have to keep this suggestion stored away because it's been mentioned often. I usually use my hamhocks for beans but certainly could use ham steaks too. Never considered it

You could use the Ham in soups or casseroles.

I'm watching you get your pork in the freezer. I do not know if you have ever considered canning your hams? It is very nice to have those on the shelf. Soups, beans, ham salad. Also, your ham stks, you can make all different types of glaze and use with them, or use them in stir fries, such as rice. I use a mix of pork roasts/loins, i chunk them up for raw pack canning, but i roll them in my dry rub recipe first, then can them. I would suggest to coat them heavily the rub. It comes out so mild that you need to use a lot of rub. They are delicious and you can do so much with it. Sandwichs, bbq pizza, add bbq sause for sliders, and so much more. Sometimes i do make the rub sweeter and sometimes spicier, i like having both on the shelf. I also can up some chicken the same way. It is so delicious! I hope that gives you a few ideas. I enjoy your channel. Thank you, and God bless!

I do can ham and I think if need be I might reserve the ham steaks for canning. I love making a quick ham salad or adding to breakfast casseroles is our favorite. I haven't tried canning anything in a dry rub but I think I'll experiment with that. This winter I'll be adding more pork to the shelf and that sounds like it would turn out delicious! Thank you for all the ideas :)

Use the ham steaks to make scallop potatoes and ham
@angelas_pantry_obsessionАй бұрын
Scallop potatoes are probably one of my favorite, and I can see how ham would go so well with it. Thank you

This year I’m going to do ham broth and pork broth. I did chicken and beef already. Tossing up on veggie in case I have my single vegan friend come over! I love doing pork fat. I saved some in raw form this year for sausages and yep, it takes up so much room!!

I love my ham broth! First time I canned it I wasn't sure I would use it very much but I actually use it a lot! Adds great flavor to so many dishes 😊

I use in ham and potato casserole at times

I've made that a few times and haven't really been successful with making it. Do you mind sharing your recipe?

Add a itte water to your pan when you warm the ham steaks.

I use the ham steaks for ham and pea soup, like you I find the steaks too thin to be able to reheat successfully. Mind you I have also used them in ham & eggs - just heat them quickly on the griddle and they do well. Also good in quiche or pasta with a cheesy sauce.

I usually reserve some of the meat with the bone from our hams for soups but the ham steaks definitely would work in soups. Thankful the hogs come at the same time of year as soup season lol.

Hello …. We didn’t like the ham steak either …. I have a lot of them to one of my sons and he loves it !!! So I need to ask him how he cooks it !!! We have about 8-10 left ……. But need to figure it out…. Or my son will get them !!! My oldest son gave him one and he said the same as us …… it was dry when cooking it ….

My husband doesn't mind them but it's not his favorite. I found cooking it at 300 in a little water covered for 30 minutes works ok but doesn't really satisfy the way an actual ham would. So dicing it and throwing them in casseroles is about the only option I'm left with. Someone just suggested to glaze it the same way I would a normal ham and that might be a great idea too.
