Best Pike video I’ve seen. Simple and accurate. Been fishing for Pike for more than 50 years. Grew up in North Dakota and still travel there a couple times a year for great Pike fishing in the Missouri River network from near Canada to Pierre South Dakota. I’ve always wondered about the back of the daredevil. Some are silver and others are gold. I use silver but I’m guessing gold may work better when overcast outside. Would appreciate input if anyone sees this. Wife has a difficult time casting these days because of arthritis. She uses frozen smelt and works great for her. Not the same as a hit on a lure but she gets plenty. Thanks folks.

Very solid advice!!! Thank you for sharing what you have learned from your time on the water!!! I'm looking forward to getting out next season with my first boat. Not the biggest or baddest thing but it will do for what I want. Has a great casting deck and seat. Bow mounted trolling motor, single fish finder, 25hp Mercury tiller. 4 seats on pedestal and one is a casting seat. Plan on going after pike, bass and some pan-fish. Might have to try going for some Walleye on the Saginaw river here in Mitten. I can use all the advice I can get.

The old guy is a true gentleman with a wealth of knowledge going out of his way to educate others about his passion for northern pike which I can relate with I love fishing for pike here in Ireland we have some great Lough's with monster pike we are having a problem with eastern Europeans catching and killing pike of every size Ireland is not a big place so they are after putting a big dent in the population but thankfully they have cut back on the taking of pike because Irish fishermen have had enough and tell them to move on but I have meet some amazing people from Eastern Europe and they were great people it's just something they brought over from there country but are adjusting to catch and release.

Really nice and informative video , ...I also have a few "Daredevles" , great lures these are , also caught some good fish on them before , but over here in Germany we've also got our classic "DAM EffZett" spoon , just like the "Daredevles" it's been around for so many decades . If you could ever get your hands on one , try the silver top and gold reverse side in 30 or 45 grams size , all "EffZetts"come with a red flipper on their rear , anyway . Tight lines , 61diemai

Pike have great eye sight; black leaders are great for steel, today flourocarbon leaders come in 40#, 60#, etc and do well to work with if you are to fish slow or live bait.

I personally have caught northerns on everything this guy is presenting in the video. And not just hammer handles, most of which measured 30"+. My favorite lure to fish pike (in spring, post spawn) is the bleeding bait spinner early in the morning, (late summer/ fall pike fishing) I like to use spoons... daredevils, 5 of diamonds etc. I start casting about an hour and a half before sunset and retrieve fast enough to keep the lure just above the weeds. I live in the upper peninsula of Michigan, and do almost all of my fishing on lake superior. I agree with the opinions in this video based on my own success rate. I use a 6' ugly stik lite rod and a pfluger president 6900 series reel, 15 or 20 lb braided spider wire line. Successful fishing to all! Remember c&r big pike to promote future big pike!

I have very good luck with the Daredevil 5 of Diamonds, red & white, and some of the others shown in this video. But the most fun and excellent success I had was with 130 Perch Whopper Plopper with 50# fluorocarbon leader. Nothing beats top water in my opinion for fun fishing. The Northern Pike loved it. I caught about 25 of them in 2 hours more on other days in Saskatchewan, last June. 🎣

I have had great luck this year with a White Squarebill lure. I Just whip it out as far as I can and reel it back at an average speed or stop & start motion and wham the Pike just hammer it. Or a White Zmann Chatterbait with a 5 inch White Grub trailer. Grubs work better than Boot Tail. The Pike bite the boot tail off to often. The attacks are viscous & fun. Largest Pike is 32.5 inches in my 247 acre lake. So far. I learned to have a good grip on my rod at all times. Almost had some ripped out of my hands. Many time they leap out of the water as I’m lifting it out at the boat to cast again. Like I said Viscous Attacks. I 100% get your Heart Attack comment. Been There. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the backup Mr. Narmstrong Sir. Interesting to observe the vitriolic hatred manifest in self-righteous GOD-haters when a blessing is offered in the Name of Jesus Christ...HE knew a thing or 2 about fishin'! (notice also that they are the Social Justice Warriors who call everybody who doesn't agree with their deluded understanding "haters!") Even if a person is a non-believer, why can't they just accept a kind word of blessing. They are the most miserable of folk..."restless, irritable and discontent." And they are jealous that we catch a lot more excellent fish than they...and have a lot more fun doing it! (Praise Jesus). Thanks again Narmstrong...GOD bless and keep you and yours during these "perilous times." ~ (St. Paul's Epistle to Timothy). And may HE bless you with awesome and phenomenal fishing. Thanks again, made my week! Grace to you. Amen in Christ's love.

Nice video. As a kid I would always catch a pike on a red and white dardevle on our summer vacations to Wisconsin. Always used a steel leader. Don't want to lose my favorite lure. Spinner baits seem to be what they want now. One summer I was catching them on buzz baits. This guy was telling what and how he fished for them with success. if you don't like what he had to say then don't be an a$$ and post negative crap. Just move along to the next video.

You don't need to have fancy lures to catch nice fish for example I fish on Laq Qui Parle Resivour name of the lake in Minnesota and I caught a near a 30 incher or around that on a fathead minnow on a yellow jighead off a bridge without a leader didn't expect to catch a northern pike that day only went for fun and my uncle doesnt belive that leaders do anything except fuckup how the minnow swims I have all the tackle now so I am able to now. Recommend lure is a Musky Innovations Bull Dawg Comes in a 4", 9", and a 12". Use the four incher and first day trolling it caught a 37 inch northern it's normally made for musky but works for both of course .

This guy is giving old school pike tips. we have much better equipment and lures to work with today than just wire leaders and spoons. when I'm fishing for big pike in dirty water ill use a wire leader but living in northern canada where the lakes are pretty clear i tend to stick with a 60 lb flouro leader on 20-30 plb braid mainline. i also rarely use spoons for pike. hook up ratio is horrible and the paint just falls off after a few pike. I prefer an xrap or husky jerk as well as some of the live target golden shiners, smelt, perch, and bass pattern jerk baits. big swim baits are also excellent for big pike. ive used the hud trouts with pretty good success for giant pike. I also fish soft body frogs, poppers, and spooks for top water pike in the summer. in the winter i ice fish for pike with live bait ie big sucker minnows or jig the Rapala, and live target lipless rattle baits.
@SeasonsAndSloan7 жыл бұрын
Grimm Reapo Woah, rookie mistake criticizing spoons in such a harsh manner. I've caught some of my largest Northerns on clown Xraps and fire tiger Husky jerks, but daredevil spoons are still incredibly impressive lures that have stood the test of time for all types of fish, and although I despise steel leaders, they do protect my lures from being lost to the depths. Also, a gold Johnson spoon like he briefly showed early can go into the depths of weed coverage (places jerkbaits cant safety reach). Strong flourocarbon like you mentioned is a great option because of its natural look and will most likely result in more hookups, especially if your accustomed to using longer jerkbaits as your exclusive weapon, but 60 pound Tess flouro does not beat the strength of the steel leader, and I don't have unlimited funds to buy new lures when a pike smashes into my flouro! I'd rather have steel between me and my 12 dollar lure when being bombarded by thrashing razor sharp teeth smashing into the line. But that's all preference, just keep an open mind when fishing for pike, there isn't always a "superior" way to fish

I haven't fished that much, but I have not had any success with spoons. The only spoon with which I had any success at all is the Mepps Cyclops. I've caught some pike on that, but, actually, I caught more large mouth bass while fishing for pike with that lure than pike. Perhaps I am not fishing the other spoons correctly. I have better success with swim baits which are idiot proof. They cast far and mimic a fish easily. They are also less work. My most successful lure for pike by far so far has been the Storm WildEye Live Pike 5 1/2" 9/16 oz; although, I did catch a really big pike on a Micro Dawg. The pike really seem to like the Storm WildEye Live Pike Lure, and will bite it when they won't bite other lures. I've tried larger swim baits, but I get a lot of follows to the boat without biting.
