Local authority vanity projects fulfil a vital purpose: enriching the planning and development officers and councillors involved in the process of approving and commissioning them. This is a very old game. Every town and city has its own examples. Thank you for sharing this one.

Eventually it will be used by the council offices, they had nowhere to park when the new offices were built, personally I think they should have stayed in Stoke town centre at the civic offices, remember them, the one they were going to sell to help pay for the new offices in Hanley, guess what, it’s not been sold.

Well those buildings were their third attempt at bringing the council all under one roof. Don't forget that was why Unity House was built. And then they built the Civic Centre in Stoke. So that is three goes in approximately 50 years-ish. Perhaps the obvious thing to do was to use some of the remaining Festival Park land and built three or four large but simple buildings with adequate parking?

What is the point of wasting money on a car park when shops are closing. When will we get someone to run the council that has a brain cell? Does the person running the council even come from Stoke? Think it’s time for a change.

I don't go that way often. But I remember the car parks down there were empty. Then Stoke built those two new buildings, rented them out, and the car parks were then full. I thought this was Stoke addressing that problem. I am surprised to find it is empty. Are those two buildings no longer occupied?

Yep the buildings are occupied just the car park is not bringing in the income. A freedom of data request revealed that on average 37 cars a day were using it.

At least it makes a good shelter for all the dust heads in Hanley. Isn't it built where the other white elephant used to be...The tallest building in Stoke that was empty for years. Do you know what that was built for??

Local government is seen as a good risk because it has a captive income stream aka us! I live in a nearby authority to Stoke. And they are about to dig up 200 acres of prime farmland to build a warehouse scheme. The country has loads of empty warehousing. We are in the middle of economic downturn that has a long way to go yet. But you can bet the banks were happy to give them the money.

Another costly building full of fresh air thats offering nothing to the city. A little like all these huge wharehouses that have been popping up all over the city. Wharehouses full of fresh air offering little in the way of employment, oppurtunities and nothing to the city.
