The reason a lot of the time judges dismiss these charges is because of overcrowded jails and prisons. It's been a growing problem for at least three decades. It all began when the Reagan administration dramatically reduced funding for mental health facilities which forced a lot of the folks who should be receiving proper mental care onto the streets. Police are then essentially forced to deal with the fallout. Something which police are neither trained nor equipped to handle. The justice system is utterly broken. The US has one of the highest incarceration rates in western industrialized countries. This is not because US citizens are generally more crime prone. Rather, an underfunded judicial system, lack of proper mental health services along with bad incentive structures within departments creates inmates at disproportionate rates while not actually helping reduce criminal behavior.

​@@KazyReedBecause there are too many criminals. The USA is so filled with criminals that your judicial system is flooded to the point where they can't spend the time needed on each case so they drop charges, which then puts more crime back on the street, compounding the problem further.

Don't know about the county this was in, but thats a huge problem here too. They get their charges dropped because they rat out their friends all the time and stay as an "informant" to police instead of getting time. My old boss had her car stolen and nearly totaled as well as missing money and items from the car, and the woman who did it got her charges dropped, and she's a well known informant.

The secret is to leave work stuff at work and home life at home. Also desensitization helps and stoicism. Work stresses me out (I'm not an officer) sometimes but I clear my head of work shit til the next day I clock in.
