Our 7x18 cargo camper conversion was stolen from the storage yard in Arizona in December 2021. We went to pick it up a couple days after Christmas and it was gone. Insurance stepped up and covered just about everything. When you spend hundreds of hours building and literally touching every piece of the build, it hits pretty hard - the sense of violation is real.

thats great to hear they stepped up. just got off the phone with my insurance company, they are now telling me we are NOT covered. really bad news for us.

Thieves suck! You and yours are okay and that’s the most important thing…but thieves really suck! You lost your items, the time it took to source them, the impound fee? Towing fee? Hotel stays…. Did I say thieves suck? They really do! I hate seeing this happen but you are a champ in handling it. Letting your children see it was good too. They see firsthand that there are some bad people out there. I’m a big believer of karma and you are definitely on it’s good side in so many ways.

Sorry to hear about everything getting stolen! I had my insurance company rewrite my policy as a livable space such as an RV. Might want to look into that if you haven’t done that yet.

Man thats too bad. I'm thinking if I ever do the trailer thing, I'm gonna put it on jack stands. One extra step if someone wants to take it. Maybe some sort of locking boot on the wheel.

I'm getting a chain to go through the wheel and around the leaf springs, that way the tire can't just be taken off. thieves are the absolute worst

People are sorry as hell. You can’t own anything without guarding it. I had a small flat trailer I repaired and somebody stole it out of the driveway. Wasn’t the money loss that bothered me as much as the months of work. You never get that time back.

I hate them too. it's been close to a year and we haven't had any problems since. we just did a big move, I disconnected the car battery when we slept in a motel

I traveled around the Western U.S A. on four different trips for months at a time logging about 4000 miles each trip carrying my Rocky Mountain Element Bike on a hitch mounted bike rack at the back of my SUV .... never had anything stolen or my vehicle broken into .... had the bike in storage in Canada and it was stolen in a just few months ... I have always said that the "Difference Between Crime in Canada and Crime in the U. S. is ... in the U.S. it's Illegal" ... in Canada crime is just a "Social Problem" ...

First, I'm glad you had a better outcome than most do. You have a recovery point that's not TOO much of a setback. But the question I have is: How did they steal it? What kind of security measures did you have in place? I've been watching more videos of late how people are engaging significant security measures to prevent their trailers from getting stolen, but in your case they took the whole enchilada. Hindsight being what it is, what could you have done (or will you do) better?

I think wheels locks. or even just a chain around the wheels would have been enough of a deterent

@@TheHowtoDad I have seen quite a few trailer nomads using the wheel locks like the Trimax...that's the direction I think we're going. I've got serious lockage happening to make it virtually impossible for them to hook up and drag off the trailer, but until your video I hadn't thought about someone taking vehicle and trailer together. We always lock everything, and there's an alarm system, but I know there are means to trick even newer vehicles. Definitely agree wheel locks would at least slow them down.

I guess the car is old enough that any key will start it. must have pried the door away from the frame to get it.
