Luke, we met at WSM 2023, where I shared my brief story about watching you guys compete while in a hospital 2019 for the first introduction to Strongman. Since then, I’ve put away the bottle & other harmful ways, and have been lifting weights, and making the plates my friends and obstacles to conquer as a way to clear my head and keep my life on track. I was trembling when we spoke & I sobbed as I walked away. You’ve no idea how much it meant that you could just hear me out, laugh & hug me. It’s a life changing experience to feel seen and heard, especially by one of the people that inspired me to not end my life. Thanks, mate, and I hope we get to shake hands again when I’m lifting on a stage like Royal Albert Hall or Cardiff 💪🏼🌶🖤

I spend much of my time working with autistic teens and their families. When I speak directly with an autistic individual, I always try to tell them to go google the phrase "current world's strongest man" and explain to them that Tom didn't obtain his status in spite of his autistic brain, but because of it. When I speak with an autistic individual's family, I tell them to look up "current world's strongest brothers" and explain to them that, because of the way autistic minds tend to work, the role of a parent or an older sibling like Luke is absolutely crucial to how they turn out, and that the only way to obtain true results is to teach and lead by example. Both of you should be immensely proud of your accomplishments--both personal and familial. In my experience, although autism is found in individuals, it is very much a family-wide ordeal. A victory for any Stoltman is a testament to just how capable autistic people can be and is thus a victory for the autistic community at large. You guys are doing more than just lift heavy things.

I don't keep up with the sport, only the Stoltman brothers, whom I actually only came across because I was looking into the various reasons why autistic people tend to gravitate away from physical activities, only to discover Tom deadlifting nearly half a ton. Still, the "Current world's strongest brothers" will still bring up the Stoltmans; and based off everything I know and have learned about Autism Spectrum Disorder, I very much do believe that Tom would never have climbed to the heights he has reached without Luke there to guide him, and that if Luke had chosen a different path for himself, Tom's brain would be wired to follow suit. Besides positive sibling role models, another extremely common feature I see amongst the most successful of autistic folks is having an amazing and impactful mother. I have heard a handful of autism moms attempt to explain to their young sons that their autism is a lot like a superpower in the sense that although we all have our various kinds of kryptonite, we are also capable of possessing tremendous skill and power that few around us will be able to match. Both of these men must be extremely busy and dedicated towards a particular lifestyle to accomplish what they have, so I wouldn't expect either of them to be extremely well-versed in the nuances of every inch of the autism spectrum, but I do sincerely hope that they both realize how high they set the bar (pun intended) when it comes to being such an exemplary example of an autism-family.
