Way back in 1984 I was backpacking through Scotland. I was in a gym on the southern tip of Loch Lomond and started talking to a local guy. He asked me if I would like to help out at a Highland games in nearby Balloch. I gladly accepted. My job was to help raise the caber into position for the athletes competing in the caber toss. They had a special guest, one Jan Pal Siggmarsson (who became the first ever 4 time winner of WSM). He said he'd never tossed a caber before. We raised it into position for him, he grabbed the base and raised it. It began to tilt sideways against his head and with superhuman strength he straightened it out with his head and hands and made the toss! He died way too young. I LOVE Scotland!

succession is always one of the most compelling parts of elite sport.. I've been watching & been a fan of strongman since the Magnús Ver Magnússon dynasty.. I've followed and rooted for some legendary athletes since then. Now thanks to modern media We/I get to witness the next dynasty from within. The reign of the stoltmans!! what a story so far. I wish there was a way strongman could have a diamond league style competition providing the sport and athletes the coverage they deserve to pull some big sponsors and grow the sport to the same level as athletics. Imagine strongman getting into the olympics....surely if BMX can then strongman should... you guys are awesome here's to the next decade.. the decade of Stoltman!!

I know it's all in good fun lifting people up but I got to caution the men against doing it. For this reason... I remember and old Andre the Giant appearance on David Letterman and Dave asked him about lifting people up and Andre replied he doesn't do it anymore because someone asked to be lifted up then sued him because the guy got hurt. The issue always is the people asking to be lifted don't know how to be lifted up properly so they squirm around while being lifted and get hurt. So I know it makes for a good photo op but really be careful about who you lift up.
