Hey I been following your channel for few years now and I got a question :) I just recently got armada 116 jj ul (2023), but I'm uncertain of where I should install the bindings. 1. I ski in powder 2 or 3 times everytime I hit the slope and rest of the time, in groomed area. 2. I do 180 and switch very often, no crazy tricks but love doing switch and do tail butter. My previous ski (super 7 2016) felt like nose was bit heavy for me to do switch easily, and was difficult for me to do quick and short turns on moguls and trees. Where should I install my bindings..? Thank you in advance!

For rails mount “true center”. This will give your skis a lot of balance. For park mount 2cm back from “true center”. This give you more pop off jumps. For 50/50 park/all-mountain mount 4cm back from “true center”. This provides a good balance of pop in the park and stability when cruising. For all-mountain/powder mount 6cm back from “true center”. This will allow you to weight your tips on hard pack, yet allow you tails to sink in powder. For powder/big mountain mount 8cm back from “true center”. This will make it difficult to get forward on hard pack, but you will float effortlessly in powder.

@@SCmatiumNot really. While the length and stiffness of a ski do determine how 'chargy' or agile it is, the general rules still apply. However, these changes can lead to more significant consequences. Rather pay attention to the construction of the ski. If it's a directional twin tip, it was never intended to be center-mounted.

It took me a while, but last year when I got a new pair, I finally figured out the factory mount point is merely a suggestion, and I moved forward about 3 cm to make mine about 2 cm behind center in my newest skis. It definitely improves skiing switch and swinging the skis around.

Very interesting that you ride the Bent Chetler 100's. I was considering going for a pair bc I demoed the 2021's earlier this year and it was one of the most fun I've ever had on a set of skis. My worry was that some people are describing them as intermediate skis, but one of the best skiers I know bought a pair, as well as you really like them. Edit: just found a guy selling an unmounted, unused set, still in wrapping, for $300. Just bought them. Super excited.

I bought really wide skis this season, 160-130-145, with a quite long rocker front and back but not a strong rocker...camber in the middle but also not mega agressive. I mounted it -1cm front true center ( center of length, which is infront of the sidecut center but right on rocker center) and they are surprisingly fun in all conditions except ice. Really agile and playful, you can both charge and be really surfy. It's also surprisingly light

Interestingly the K2 Sights (2021 model) mid-boot mounting point is about 3.5cm behind true center end to end. But looking at the edge profile, I'm not sure I'd move it forward too much more because you'd be mounting the front binding on thinner material--especially if you have shorter skis and larger boots. The ski mounting point appears to be designed this way deliberately where the recommended midpoint is in the true center of the "meat" of the ski. So if your ski is not TRULY symmetrical, I would be hesitant to just blindly shoot for physical center.
@ambc38vsxn
@ambc38vsxn 4 жыл бұрын
Try to spend 1-2 seasons on full rocker skis. Your stance will improve. There is also swing weight, one more reason to move mount point forward. But generally, it depends on ski purpose. Chetlers are for bc freestyle, so mount point is set for freestyle people. But recommended point on old Katanas was far back. +2 or even +3 is fine for old Katanas. I am personally mounting +1.5 on my Volkl Shiro 193

Hi Jens, I go over your tech videos quite often to find balanced choices for myself. the video's are truly helpfull and inspiring. Now, although this is an old video, I hope you'll see this quesion/comment. Recently I noticed you are skiing the bent110 in some video's. I was wondering if you could do a short review on the ski, what is its best usage, which binding you would use and what wold be the mounting point options compared to the 100/120 🙂. I''m considering the 110 with shifts as I have aspirations to go chasing powder one of the coming seasons in Japan. So the shift would serve me to strive a bit furhter away from the slopes. Looking forward to your comments !! Cheers Christophe

Hey I recently changed the mounting point on my 2022 bent 100. I went from -5.8cm, up to -2.5cm. Made a huge difference, skis feels shorter now which gives me more confidence. But also it feels like the ski has more energy compared to -5.8cm. However if I were to do it again, I’d probably go for -3.5 or -4cm. I have yet to try the skis on a mountain after the change, only a local park hill. I fear that I lost a lot of all mountain abilities. So forsure, -3.5cm or -4cm from true center would be the way to go.

Hi Jens - love the videos been watching them for a few years now and hope to come to your camp this winter. I bought the bent chetler 110 I'm 5'9 and 80kg so bought the 180cm length. This ski is for skiing powder I never expected it to be great on hard pistes(which its definitely not!). I set pair of shift bindings at -3 from true centre(factory recommended) but the front of ski feels really short - I feel i could go over the handle bars often. Would moving the mount point back to -5cm make a difference or have i just chosen the wrong length? Im not that fussed about skiing switch. I love how easy the ski is to pivot - must be the easiest to flick around ever that I've had (previous powder ski was the black crow atris 188cm which was hard work in trees but felt super stable at speed in powder. I am a decent skier basi 2 and ski mostly in europe but this year am going to whistler for 3 weeks mid january i work as a ski club of great britain rep and just wonder if you had advice on how to make this ski work for me or whether i just need to buy a longer ski ? Thank you for addressing this important subject! :) Its pretty amazing how much the mount point can change a ski, and the BC100 is such a good ski to adress it on. You can fix your -4 mount on the BC100 and put some binding freedom inserts in the holes so you can always go back, and make a new +1 probably or even more, I put my shifts on +2? iirc , skied pretty good there. ohh and yeah, permanent marker is surprisingly permanent on topsheets, even tried "biltema citrus rens" ;)

What about putting the toe piece on the true balance point of the ski. That was always the way we did it. My Atomic Vantage97 188cm has a recommended line for boot center. But that puts my Technica Mach1 29.5 toe piece 3.5cm ahead of true balance point of ski. My friends 26.5 boots end up with the toe piece dead on the balance point. So the size of the boot makes a difference. So it feels like the shop mounted my bindings too far forward. I kept telling the ski tech about my concerns but he just blew me off because I’m 70 years old and he told me that this is how it’s done now. Remember, knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit, but wisdom is knowing you don’t put it in a fruit salad! So that “factory recommended” line is just a reference point. Looks like I’ll be remounting my skis my self like I always have.

I'm going for an update here after two years. I bought the exact same Bent 100 two years ago and I was scared to mount them anywhere else than the recommended setting, even though the seller was encouraging me to do so. (I also have another pair of skis for more powdery days and I realized they are mounted 3 cm back from true center - Salomon R2 108 - and I love them). After skiing multiple times with my Bent 100's on recommended setting, I felt they didn't feel that good to maneuver and play around (It wasn't catastrophic either, just felt quite more difficult). I don't really go to park but I like to butter and land switch on small jumps, go off piste a lot and just play around. I then realized that the way my skis feel so awkward is probably because of the mount, not because I just suck. Anyways, I was thinking how much I should move them forward, I had no clue how much is not enough or too much for me. After watching your video I decided to go +4, that gives around 3,5 cm behind center. I think that should do it for me and can't wait to try them and feel the difference. By the way your tutorials are great and everything is well explained in detail. Keep it up!

My case is that i just both Line Mordecai 186 and mount my bindings -7cm. from true center and -5cm. from Eric's recommended (witch is -2.0cm.), cuz i got confused. I skied them only for a day and cant give too much of a thought, but they might be too much back. That 1cm. could it be so much of a problem? Recommended Mount Point: “Eric’s Choice -2.0 cm / Recommended -6.0 cm”

My previous ski (super 7 2016) felt like nose was bit heavy for me to do switch easily, and was difficult for me to do quick and short turns on moguls. Where should I install my bindings..? Thank you in advance!

Yo, got the same and got two opinions from shop dudes. One liked recommended, about -6cm from true center, the other said that seemed kind of far back. Personally I like true centers but with these I think I did stay back slightly. Can't remember exactly but I believe I went the furthest forward on the recommended scale which is still a couple cms back from true center and I love it! Like spinning and switch and it's great fun with this mount! Not a fan of too much nose so if you haven't mounted yet hope it helps 🤙

Hi there! Weird but I don't see my comment, thus writing it again. First of all thanks for the work you do with your channel, that is amazing! Second, I just bought myself a pair of Bent Chetlers 100 (188) as I am 90-95kg and 195cm. I have previously skied only carv ones and want to expand my horizons with all-mountain playfullness, finally. Was hoping to stick STH2 16s at +3 (-4.8cm) on them for gradual introduction to off-piste and some beginner level pops. What can you suggest? Am i doing it right?

@@hansvagen6078 not at all. Also if you get them mounted at a shop they’ll fill the holes in. But even if you didn’t fill them in, it makes absolutely no difference. If the holes happened to be in the place where you need to drill new ones, they use anchors for that and it’s just as strong as screwing into the ski itself.

The ultimate mounting position hack Ok, here's how to see what you like in a mount,,,, Do a day on demo ski's you are buying, the bindings are for a wide size variety of boot. Use this to adjust your boot forward and back. usually it's just flip a lever and move it. Try it, change it again. Find your sweet spot and measure it from standard mount position. Mount your new ski's. Worth every penny to Demo day the ski you are buying and ,,,, the bindings adjust pretty significantly forward and back depending on how big your boot is. 9.5 is going to give you more than a size 13. So, there's your hack from a dinosaur. 59 yers of skiing. Mention where you got the tip.

It's not worth the extreme amount of work. It's so easy to mess up. Instead just let someone do it that knows exactly what they are doing. Plus because you are paying them, there should be coverage for if they screw up that the company will compensate you for it. If you do it yourself and mess up, that's it.

Binding manufacturers make a jig which is an adjustable frame which clamps onto a ski. It lines up the screw holes for the toe and heel for the length of your boot sole that you are mounting. Bindings typically have 4 screws at the heel and 3-5 screws at the toe. Once mounted the heel is usually on a track which can move slightly forward or back to adjust forward pressure. There are some bindings which you may be able to obtain a paper template but this involves lots of measurements, cutting the template to correct size and tapping it to the ski. If you don’t have any experience mounting bindings it would be a good idea to practice on an old throw away ski before you use a paper template. At the ski shop we use the adjustable metal frame jig which lines up the holes and allows us to drill straight into the ski. It is important to use the correct size drill bit that is recommended by the ski manufacturers. Which is usually 3.5 x 9.5 for wood core and 4.1x 9.5 for skies with metal which requires tapping the screw holes.
