Excellentt présentation. Quick to point. Great introduction why points are select. 90% of skiers do not know difference,,or have technique to feel difference. 10% skiers know or feel difference but do not know how to,,, Your presentation addresses these skiers.. Yes very careful…. Thank you for excellent video.

Very good advice and I completely agree. I have brand new K2 Sight's that are designed as park skis but are also touted as very all-mountain capable and the boot middle mark is set at 3.5cm behind true center. Some youtubers who have do some insane acrobatics on this ski mount it dead center, but if you want this to be an all-rounder, I'd stick with the recommended mounting point. When you look at the ski, the mark is actually dead center with the "meat" of the ski and it makes perfect sense. Any more than 2cm forward or back (at least on the 160's or less) and either your front or rear binding will be on a slightly thinner part of the ski, especially if you have big boots and short skis. This will really upset the flex of the ski, making it disproportional. So like it's said in this video, I wouldn't go more than 1, maybe 2cm beyond this mark without understanding the change in dynamics.

Ok, the ultimate way to find your sweet spot to mount your bindings. First demo the ski you want to buy. The demo bindings adjust for a wide range of boot shell sizes. Usually it's just flip a lever and you can move the binding forward and back, just be sure to move them the same amount. Ski, change it ski some more find what you like on that ski. measure the distance from the standard mount position and then go mount your ski's. Don't guess. Thats dumb. Now, you'll be able to adjust more with a smaller boot then a larger size, more adjustment if you are a 9.5 as opposed to a size 13. Or I buy demo bindings and mount them and then I can loan skis to visiting friends or change my settings based on the day. Hard pack maybeeee a bit forward to day, Oh, powder day maybe a bit back. Ya tunable ski's. So, there's your Dinosaur skier tip.

Hello. Your videos are very explanatory and well done for that. I am a beginner with 172cm height, 76 kg, and 58 years old. My skis are the blizzard expedition 167cm..In which position do you think I should place the binder? Which one is in front and how much? my style is cross-country slow skiing.

@andrewdiamond2697Ай бұрын
center will kill you in powder and also not be helpful on groomers. I'd go 2 cm back from center or split the difference between center and the factory mount line.

Hi I am a 5 foot adult women weight 123 and like riding twin tip skis (2023 honey bee by line) I love bumps trees Littke jumps ( like 12 inches high nothing to difficult) and 8% I go in the park to mess around with my 10 yr old son. Suggestions were to put my bindings???? Ty 😊
@MountainVibes Жыл бұрын
I would mount your bindings at recommended for the Honey Bee. They are a bit back from center to make the ski more playful and easier to throw around.

Great explanation. Thanks! My Volkl Kendo 88s have 3 lines to mount the bindings. Any insight as to what each is best for? They're currently mounted off the rear-most line. Cheers!
@MountainVibes3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! The rear-most line will be for a traditional setup for carving and float. While the most forward line will make the skis a bit more playful by moving your weight forward. This setup will allow you to hop around a bit easier. Where the middle line, in theory, should give you the best of both. Hope this helps.

Hi - Good video and I have 2 questions about this that are somewhat related: 1) I have an older pair of Hart F-17T's and they do not appear to have any manufacturer's markings on them like you discuss here to tell how the bindings have been mounted relative to the recommended positions. So, is there a way I can know their positioning now? 2) The first question really comes from the fact that I'm preparing to buy new skis and bindings and wish to tell the new installers how the bindings were positioned. The thing is, the bindings were installed on a demo rail and are adjustable. They are right in the correct spot for me, but with no markings on the skis and with these rail mountings, I don't know how to inform the installer of the binding location that is ideal for me. Hope you can help out.

That's tough to find out when the skis are older. Is there no notch, or indent on the top of the skis somewhere in the middle of the bindings? You may have to jump on some ski forms and ask previous owners how they had their skis mounted. Most demo jigs are at a set width to drill the plates. Depending on what bindings they are, a shop may be able to tell you where the center mark is by laying a jig over top.

I have a set of smaller 150 Volkl Racetiger skiis for my daughter, but am uncertain about where the center markings are on these. Besides the serial # on the side, there might be a small | mark about an inch in front of it, but there is also a very small (3cm x 2 cm) mark kind of near the center between two screw pictures that says "3.6 x 7.5mm" and directly between the screw pictures it has arrows that point to the back screw indicator that says (screw picture) "" (screw picture). Looks like about 3cm between the screw pictures. Is this where the ski center point is that usually matches the boot center point? Is the back or front mark generally the specific center point? Lastly, in general with slalom racing, is the mount point 1-2 cm in front of the center mark on the skiis? Thanks! Great video- much appreciated!

Sorry- the line code somehow continued through my text there and won't let me edit. It should say "< Max 480mm > screw pic. Looks like about 3 cm between the screw pictures. Is this where the ski center point is that usually matches the boot center point? Is the back or front mark generally the specific center point (or in the middle)? Lastly, in general with slalom racing, is the mount point 1-2 cm in front of the center mark on the skiis? Thanks! Great video- much appreciated!
@MountainVibes3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason, To start, the "3.6x 7.5 mm" marking is for the ski tech to know what drill bit to use. In the case of where to set the midpoint, that | marking on the side is it. To my knowledge, these skis usually come with a binding track on it. If there is a track on it, and if setup correctly, just follow the sole length markings, and the boot will automatically lineup at the correct midpoint on the ski. Hope this helps.

You should do this for the Head Kore ski where they are mounted on recommended SO far back already and then there's only 1 hash mark ahead of center when there are 4-5 hashes behind recommended. I feel like I'm wearing clown shoes with them on. There's so much ski in front of my boot mounted at recommended. Trying to decide if I want to go +1 or more ahead of recommended.
@MountainVibes Жыл бұрын
If I had easy access to a demo pair I would. They do have a more directional mounting point, which does make the nose super long.

@@MountainVibes I ended up remounting and going +1.5 cm from recommended. I haven't had a chance to ski them but to the eye they look a lot more "comfortable" to me. did not like the super long nose view at all.

Ive got the bent chetler 100s with pivot look 15 bindings. Ive mounted them +3 from recommended so I can ski switch, do a lot of all mountain but also have some stability while doing jumps in the park. Do you think that was the right move or should have I gone with the recommended?
@MountainVibes3 жыл бұрын
You may find that you'll have to lean back more in soft snow to prevent yourself from nose diving. That's really the main issue here. Only time will tell if you've gone too far forward. Any other aspect of skiing should be fine.

It really depends on where you intend to use them the most. If you want a nice all rounded/ take everywhere ski., leave it at the recommended marking. If you want a more freestyle ski, I would move the mounting point forward 2 cms.

@@whitebeltforlife5271 it sounds like you want your skis to behave more directional. The skis have a close to center mount, so go 1.5 - 2 cm back to give you a more directional feel, while maintaining the ski's playfulness. I did this with my Candide 3.0.

@MountainVibes2 жыл бұрын
I haven't had a chance to test them, so I'm not entirely sure where to mount them. They are a more forward mounted ski to begin with the "Team" mount is 3.5 back of center. If you're more freestyle focused, you could go 1 cm back. I'd speak to the tech that's gonna mount them, and get there opinion too.
