Not sure I agree with the characterization of BPD. Borderlines seem to feel everything...just MORE so. But they often appear very broken. Then when they draw people in, that's where the splitting becomes confusing. I've always thought the definition was "love me or else." Ann Hathaway in "Rachel's Getting Married" is a better representation.

I have histrionic personality disorder... i'm pretty much the most awkward person ever. i never wear bright colors and i am not provocative in any way. i'm sure some people with the disorder ARE very sexual, but i tend to cause trouble and start arguments and fights or run away from home rather than flirt. its very difficult to control my life because of this, i've done so many awful things to my family and friends because i was subconsciously driven by the need to be focused on. it isnt just being a drama queen, and while i'm sure people will never understand what it's like to have a personality disorder, you really patronized it whether you tried to or not. my fucking life is falling apart and everyone hates me, yet i keep doing more and more shitty things just so people will notice me, and you compare me to Paris Hilton. you aren't doing a very good job at actually getting people to understand the dangers.

+Roisin Kilmartin I'm sorry to hear about your medical situation and that you found this material inaccurate based on your experience. Certainly having lived through it you know more about this disorder than I ever will. I'm just a student and my experience with personality disorders is limited. However, this personality disorder does present differently in different people and others may have symptoms that are absent in your own history. In particular the phrases I mentioned like wearing colorful clothes are phrases that show up on test questions often. That is why I mentioned them since this video is solely intended to help students pass a test called the medical board exam. It is not meant for patient education or general education of providers. If I was making videos for those audiences I would certainly include a lot more detail since this is a complex psychiatric condition. I only covered the very basics with some key phrases cuz that is really all you need to pass the test. I'm sorry you took offense to the video as that was certainly not my goal. As I specifically mentioned in the beginning of the video I fully recognize that these disorders can be horrible for patients to live through and I was not trying to make light of or make fun of these disease. I was just using very extreme famous versions as memory mnemonics to help students better to be able to memorize these terms as getting them confused is very easy. Students have to memorize tens of thousands of medical facts so sometimes using ridiculous and slightly inaccurate mnemonics is the only way to keep things straight. Excellent video. I am in the field and know basic info about personality disorders, but I found this quite suitable for the general population. Regarding Antisocial Personality Disorder (APD), I've found the Brazilian movie "City of God" to be an excellent portrayal of who really has APD and who doesn't. Yes, many of the characters are hard-core criminals but my opinion is that only one of the main characters has APD, e.g. he does what he does without a hint of emotional distress, empathy, or any awareness of the devastating effects of his actions on his loved one and his community.

I found this to be quite accurate as I have experience, either through other peoples' or my own disorders. The example of the Hulk particularly struck a cord and actually made me giggle because I know someone with BPD that literally would come to the crunch and appear to turn into the Hulk and destroy his/her bedroom. Just to clarify, when I say I had a giggle I do not mean at the expense of the person I am talking about with BPD or other people with BPD, just the fact that it was so accurate to me. Yes, and it's also worth mentioning that dictators and pretty much anyone in a high position of power needs to be fairly paranoid. Lots of people really do want them dead or at least want to sabotage their work, and many people will pay top dollar to have them eliminated. I would be very reluctant to consider a high ranking political figure as having Paranoid Personality Disorder.

Thank you although tbh I question a lot of your examples..all of them actually.. I think maybe some personality disorders might be taken off the DSM in future as we learn more about the brain. Some seem over simplified ..I don't think anyone is as one dimensional as some of these symptoms make out and find it hard to believe that 3 of the disorders don't want friend's at all. In my opinion those disorders are probably ppl that have given it a good go with ppl but simply couldn't communicate in the same way or had different priorities so eventually they gave up on ppl thinking it was no use.. I don't think at all that many ppl, no matter how introverted .. truly never want to be around other ppl at all as we're inherently social creatures to some degree. We have complex brains, we've developed complex language.. even if we don't verbally speak we have a wide range of emotions even if the outside world might not see or recognise them does not mean they're not there.

+Ruth Joseph my guess is the Myers-Briggs is better than most other options as it is the most widely used. What I mean by not necessarily very useful is that you probably won't be very surprised by the results. For example, most of us just know intuitively how introverted/extroverted we are with needing a testsresult to tell us. However, there are things out there that help you apply the results enter. For example lists of different careers that you might be best suited for or what strategies you might be able to use to work better in teams or even how to choose a significant other. That being said everyone is different so you can't take it as gospel. Mine told me I was suited for surgery and I hate surgery LOL. But again this isn't my area of expertise so talking to somebody with psychology training would probably yield you a much better answer

The video is useful but Hulk is a bad example for borderline personality disorder. The term asocial and not anti-social (against society) should be used for a person that withdrawals from social activity. Some medical staff might be using anti-social term but it's wrong by definition, so they are using the term in a wrong manner. You could have talked about "cold" and "hot" empathy because its an interesting point that can differentiate an anti-social character from an authentic emphatic person. The terms ego-synthonic and ego-dystonic could be used in the end of the video.

The disorders in each cluster have overlapping characteristics. That is why they are characterized together, not sure why you would not consider that helpful or important. Cluster B PD’s for example, share overlapping traits of erratic behaviors, low to no empathy, and poor emotional regulation.

There is a difference between having normal behaviors and behaviors that are obviously abnormal. For example, behaviors that constantly get in the way of every day things like jobs, school and relationships. I would know...my son is schitzotypal and my boyfriend is narcissistic. I am learning how to deal with them both, since I do care about them and I want what is best for them.
