This speech was absolutely amazing. And not only because it was said from the heart. Stone did what nobody dared doing in almost two years: he aknowledged every person that's been erased from the narrative that we've been hearing for the last couple of years. He mentioned Karen Cornell (Chris' ACTUAL mother), Peter Cornell, the rest of his brothers and sisters, Eddie and even Susan Silver. I'm so very proud of Stone, who is not only one incredible musician but most importantly a loyal friend and a better human being ❤ .

It is pretty odd how they broke up in the first place. I read Chris's biography recently, and not much is known seemingly on why Chris divorced Susan, other than that he felt his marriage wasn't working and was driving him to substance abuse. That could have just been the rationale in his head though. Drugs can mess with that.

@@carolinebrennan3864 he didn't jump her; he married her. Realistically, he probably could have jumped any woman he wanted, but he didn't. Agreed that he needed more time to heal. I have two theories based on the biography. 1. He dedicated so much to music that he didn't want to "waste time" looking for the right partner. 2. He's the type of guy who can't stand not being in a relationship, despite how much time he spent alone. Perhaps he needed some reassurance that there was always someone there for him when he could take a break from writing music and exploring the wilderness.
@carolinebrennan3864
@carolinebrennan3864 3 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminwiseman6567 I still say "jumped." Shotgun wedding. Married within weeks of papers he forced Susan to sign to get out of that marriage. People like to think he was the greatest man alive (musician, yes in the SG days) but he was only a man who was flawed. From what I have learned, he did not even feel loved in the end. Full circle. Lily was so lucky to have the entire Seattle grunge scene, pick up where Chris left off, but look how she has turned out. IMHO she got the best part of the deal. Peace

This right here. Stone Gossard did what needed to be done--he spoke up for and recognized Chris's blood, his real family, and the inspirational Susan Silver and--most importantly--the amazing Lily Cornell Silver--all of whom Vicky has tried to erase from Chris's life and his history, all of whom Vicky's mother Toni has publicly slammed on social media in the most vile and disgusting ways possible. I have so much respect for Stone for doing what no one else had the balls to do, what has needed to be done for so long now. I also have so much respect for Eddie for not going to this event, though it is a shame that it had to come to that. To have one of Chris's best friends excluded because of the hatred Vicky and her mother Toni have publicly voiced for this amazing man, it is truly a shame. But I don't blame Eddie one bit for not being there for the tribute. Vicky and Toni didn't want him there, even if they never publicly stated that, it is evident by the things they have said about Eddie since Chris's death. But everyone knows the connection Chris and Eddie had, and neither Vicky, nor Toni, can ever erase that no matter how hard they try. And Lily--her speech spoke volumes--Chris wasn't in music for the money; he was in it for the love of music--just like Lily; Chris was nothing like Vicky who is out for nothing but the money and the fame. I hope this tribute puts an end to the relentless money grabs that nasty widow has been doing since the moment she heard Chris was dead. Three cheers for Stone and for Lily and for Eddie!!! You three--I have nothing but love and respect for you. Chris is smiling down on you, always. ~~~Loud Love

This yt comments section must be the only place where real Cornell fans know how toxic his inlaws are, that they alienated Seattle and his close relatives. I mean not even inviting Chris parents and siblings, are you fucking kidding me?! Eddie Vedder is obviously not here for the hypocrisy and I can't blame him for not partaking in Vicky's ego stroking and cash grab on Chris's name. Chris died on her watch, not Susan Silver's (that she spent 14 years slandering and sueing), something she will have to deal with until the end of her existence (if she has a conscience, something I've been doubting ever since that fateful night).

Yeah, even though I like Dave Grohl/Taylor Hawkins/King Buzzo for bringing raw punky energy, some were spot on but a bit sugary (Levine, Cyrus), some all right (Ryan Adams, Fiona Apple, Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlisle, Peter Frampton, Taylor Momsen) some were borderline disaster (Juliette Lewis, Perry Farrell and Metallica were wishy washy, Rita Wilson?!), lot of screaming and grunting but that was the only time when they actually channeled and nailed the bluesy feel that was emanating from Chris's soulful voice. It felt like a gospel communion; for me, that was the moment when the tribute just took an ascending turn into a higher dimension up until Soundgarden brought us all to tears.

MIGUEL, MIGUEL, MIGUEL undoubtedly broke it, no one of us would have thought that this singer, perhaps something unknown in this environment of rock, could have stood out and surprised both the public and in general to all, more than one will have thought ... why not add it to our bands, Soundgarden or Audioslave ... incredible feeling and more when it surprises you in that way, for lovers of rock, is an incentive that rock did not die, nor should die, hopefully we will appreciate the lyrics of a singer like Chris, where his own peers recognize his legacy, we must convey to our children, how they should choose the music and show these singers or groups, what they have to give in their lyrics and music and then they decide, regards.

I believe Miguel and Miley could do some righteous sounding rock, as the pop-hip hop genre isn’t doing their true talents justice. I realize their talent is multifaceted but this was a heartfelt opportunity they got to show more of their singing chops. Taylor is rock, she did great as well, as CC music is really complicated and off beat, as the genius he was, and it’s difficult for other artist to even get it close. Respect for those that did bc they all know Chris’s all around voice and talent is unmatched. Like Elvis, after he did a song, no one could match it. This was a great and moving rendition. Loved the bluesy soul he captured. I wish Lily could have sang. It was asked why she didn’t, and asked if too emotional, and Lily responded on social media by saying she would have loved to, but wasn’t invited to sing. God Bless Stone for those heart felt words on behalf of Chris’ family and Seattle roots. As Chris said he is, was a Seattle boy, through and through. 💕

God, Stone made me cry, no doubt... He's right on about everything... There would no doubt be no "grunge" without Chris, and Seattle might've never gotten it's time in the spotlight like it did. Definitely no Sub Pop, no Pearl Jam, Nirvana, or Alice in Chains if it weren't for SG and the balls Chris had... He was THE first person to bring the underground overground, I don't care what anyone says... He INVENTED the word Grunge and the "Seattle Sound," period. Miguel KILLED it here, too... Kudos to him and that slide guitarist for keeping it bluesy, cause like Stone said, Chris was a bluesman and it radiated from his every pore...

How sick is Vicky to ban Chris's blood relatives from a memorial of Chris! Vicky had no right to do that! But everything has to be about HER! The star filled funeral, this bs "tribute" with false promises that the money raised during the event would be donated. It never was. Sad fact: she had given orders to the venue's security to kick Susan and Lily out the moment they entered! Had it not been for the Soundgarden guys and Stone, Chris's own daughter would not have been there to attend the tribute. It still makes me sad and mad.

I've been doing a deep dive into the early Seattle "grunge" scene. (I believe the term may have been first used by Sub Pop in describing Green River.) BUT !!! Listening to Chris Cornell , Thayil , and Yamamoto on a KZbin video from '86 (in LA I think), with unfortunately crappy sound quality , was fucking amazing. I think he (and they) expressed the heart of the whole scene. The quintessential Voice of "it". I won't say the word. Stone said blues. Blue, ... and black , ... and screaming red too. Ripping open the cage of our sick culture of hate and control , to let our souls out. Thank you to him and all those people dedicated to their art and to love and freedom.

Lily is Seattle Royalty. The first child of Chris Cornell. The only child of Susan Silver. She has all those uncles protecting her. I know Chris is too.

@@jmonty2005 I knew him from his duet with Janelle Monae, Primetime. But he just amazed the shit ouf of me out of the blue, didn't know dude had such a set of pipes to not only cover a Chris Cornell song at the top of his game but nail it effortlessly while letting the fans participate, the whole building must have been shaken with chills to sing along. Nikka Costa did a great job harmonizing as well. They crushed it vocally and it's a very hard song to sing, let alone convey the soulful and bluesy tone. He sounds so fucking great and pitch perfect on a bootleg video, that must have been incredible live.

@@deadstar44 I totally agree. I think this was the best vocal performance of the night (although Miley Cyrus was actually pretty good surprisingly. Maybe not surprisingly to all, but definitely to a guy like me who pretty much despises all modern pop music)
