You dump the stone on the ground because you need to see all faces of the stone for best placement of said stone!. Strangely the stone has to ‘feel’ right in your head before you even pick it up!. I built hundreds of, maybe even thousands, of square metres of stone wall like this and I loved every minute of it!. You’re doing a fantastic job and I love watching your videos!. Keep up the excellent work!.

Very nice👍. How many square metres so you average a day with this stone?
@J.HarveyStonework2 ай бұрын
Cheers, it really does depend on the different features. But 5 sqm on straight wall sections is average.

Ace job! I would like to know what is the sand cement ratio for stone and can you use coarse sharp sand instead of soft sand? Thanks.
@J.HarveyStoneworkКүн бұрын
Thanks, this is 2.5 ginger building sand & 2.5 grit sand to 1 type n. I prefer coarse sand with all mortars to be honest. Especially lime!

18:54 how did that stone cut so perfectly…. 😮

love this job (and your work) Q: are those cement block walls staying? the (undelivered) window looks out at bloody block wall 2 feet away?! please do tell
@J.HarveyStonework2 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching. Yes the block wall and stone is tied together with cavity in between. The windows cills are deep & the frames still need to be put in.

I have a question, what mixture do you use as mortar / grout? I live in a very old stone house. Here and there, grout has fallen out and I need to fix that problem. The trouble is, I have not come across the right mixture to use. I have experimented, but it does not look the same. The original has the appearance of sea sand, and is a natural colour. I would appreciate some advice.

I would defo use a lime mortar. Preferably a hot lime as it’s a very old house. Try getting in contact with a local reporting service for advice etc.

@J.HarveyStonework the stones the house is made of are called shale. I live in South Africa. I will search further.......

Why dump rocks out of a wheelbarrow onto the ground just to bend over and pick them all up again?
