I'd rather have just a few moments of "traffic congestion" than to have to tell a Family that their loved one isn't coming home for tea.

There is sufficient warning lights, barriers and those annoying sirens to warn people. Yes I agree - education is the key.

0:11 That was not a misuse The light was amber as hecrosed

It was still misuse as the amber light is a warning that the crossing is about to lower like the red lights

instead, get rid of all half barriers and install full barriers that take up both lanes of the road. I mean, yeah you'll still have people who speed up and drive over the crossing as the barriers are coming down but it will reduce the risk of accidents

@simpletimes222 Okay, well I'm sorry, it's just that there are several "midlands" in several countries, including England, the United States, Australia and Zimbabwe. For some reason, I assumed that this was the one in Tasmania.

How unsurprising that the local politician thinks that the blame lies with NR and not with the idiots who jump the lights. I bet he also campaigns for better rail services.

I am frequently made angry by reports that councillors or similar call on Network Rail or the industry in general to make improvements as the crossings are dangerous. When will people understand it is the foolish public or impatient car driver who use crossings illegally and flirt with death and disaster that need to be tackled. The railway almost always does its job despite all the obstacles put in front of it. A train does need an obstacle such as a car or pedestrian put in front of it either.

I thought this was in Britain until I found out that the Midlands are in Tasmania, which as most of us know, is in Australia. I actually live in Australia, although I live in a mainland state called South Australia, which actually isn't the southermost state. (That would be Tasmania, of course.) I'm used to hearing accents which sound Cockney, but you know, slightly different. Yes, now I know that since Australia is such a large country, there are of course different accents.

Hmm it's not the speed that makes that trains cannot stop quickly... it's their mass

Levl crossings are inherently unsafe. The conflict between lethal rail traffic and vulnerable pedestrian and road traffic is simply the next accident waiting to happen. Where I live in Melbourne, Australia we have fatalities occurring each month from level crossing accidents. There is a campaign to abolish them however expensive that may be. Human frailty is such that people will die because they are not always acting rationally or responsibly. That's life!

Level crossings are only a problem if not used correctly. Those who fail to wait should be dealt with very harshly!

I know a Voyager can stop incredibly fast on E brakes but, not fast enough to avoid hitting an idiot thats decided to jump the lights/barriers! Level crossings are perfectly safe as long as people don't try to become the recipient of a Darwin Award.... (Reminds me of the tragic story of a mother in the USA who tried to beat a freight train with her children in the back seat. - She would have beaten the one she was looking at but, got hit by the one coming from the other direction! Stop at Red

its not etwork rail's fault people have accidents there, its the pedestrians/driver's fault for deciding to cross!

Why should taxpayers (NR is funded by the taxpayer) spend scarce funds to protect idiots from themselves? I'd like to see how European countries such as Germany or Switzerland cope with this type of issue.
