the greatest vocal in history Linda can sing any style
@erinlast26277 жыл бұрын
Wow, very early Linda. Her voice is already so naturally powerful - she had to hold the microphone out a ways so she wouldn't blow down the walls. A fine historical recording- of a singer who, imho, became one of the very best, most authentic vocalists in American popular music history.

This was in New York City in 1968? Thank you for the information I always wondered where this was. I did not know visit one of those places in California where Linda Ronstadt performed

That famous brick wall in the background gives the location away. It was also on the cover of one of Peter Paul and Mary's early albums.

So early in her career and so great a performance. Folk rock was just evolving into a new music. I will watch this as long as I live. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, John Mitchell, a fine performance. Her earnestness, talent, and stage presence already apparent. If you enjoyed this, John, find her appearance out in California on an early Mike Douglas Show; she sings with Swampwater and is interviewed as well. It's a real time capsule.

Sounds like British skiffle stuff, Pentangle, Fairport Convention influenced. I had a poster of Linda sitting with the pigs. My dad thought it was too provocative for my eyes.

An outstanding performance, beautifully filmed, and an amazing document of this early - but still fully mature - stage in what quickly became a superstar career. I only know of the three songs from this show here on KZbin; I wonder if there's any more, and if so how much. The full show would make a great DVD; it already looks as if it had been filmed last week!

That vibrato! The shimmer of her voice! And the "band" -- the guitarist, the drummer, and the "sound-system".... well... Thanks for posting this. I'm going to watch it again.

I remember telling my aunt one time that Linda and Judy Garland had such incredible vibrato. She replied, "That's a sign that you can't sing...when you use vibrato." I was like, "Are you f ing kidding me? These are two of the greatest singers of modern times." Totally clueless.

+Tony Marcus I absolutely love this song! Did Mayne Smith (name I am not familiar with) record it and did any other singer or group other then Linda Rondstadt & the Stone Ponies cover it? Linda's vocals on this song is beautiful!(One of my favourite early songs that she covered)

Great to see this video of Linda in the very early days of her career. What a tremendous voice Linda had, even at that young, young age. What great stage presence she had from the beginning. Was wondering if the man seated to the left of the stage is the club manager or their actual manager for the group?

Happy 77th Birthday Linda...sooo Jackson Browne said in the Ronstadt: Sound of my Voice movie when they toured together "we used to change up who opens and who closes...I mean who wants to follow Ronstadt every night" So looking at this video from the Stone Poneys early days (late 1960s) and a few other ones as well you see the next up band on the left and they reallllly look dejected...riiiight, who wants to follow Ronstadt...evvven back in her early days...tooo funny...nasty friggen disease she has...prayers for Linda...amen

And they're only getting worse in '22. Just over 7 years left to go until the centenary of the first global economic meltdown of the Modern age; wonder if we'll even survive long enough to commemorate it, in light of this current planetary meltdown/insane mid-summer heat wave.

The song is from Evergreen Vol. 2. I believe that those are Kenny Edwards and Bobby Kimmel on guitars.
@mehitabelgill67113 жыл бұрын
This is the "reconstituted" Stone Poneys. During work on the band's third album, in early 1968, Kenny Edwards departed for India. After "Different Drum" hit the charts, Bob Kimmel and Linda Ronstadt rounded up some more musicians, and the reformed Stone Poneys began touring. Tony Day is playing drums, Shep Cooke is the guitar player on the left, Bobby Kimmel on the right. Don't know who is playing bass.

Does anyone know what year this video is from? Or how long Linda had been singing professionally when she was performing here? I know this video is from the 60's but just curious what year exactly it was from?
@tomjones70899 жыл бұрын
folkmusicgirl Not sure, I was thinking the same thing. I would like to know where it was filmed. I would guess 67 or 68, different drum was released in 67. I remember it in high school, it was a good song, I remember finding out years later Ronstadt sang it, I was surprised. She was hot too and many young guys would comment on her looks, especially in the seventies.
@folkmusicgirl9 жыл бұрын
Tom Jones USA Yes, I was young and my boyfriend had a crush on her too in the mid-70s' when we were about 18 years old..My friends, myself - none of us had her looks - the only thing I had in common with her was our height - NOTHING ELSE. :-(I was a fan of hers though - loved her music in spite of all the guys who would always comment about her looks (as you mentioned.)Her talent is phenomenal. I wish her the best with her current health problems and that she may find joy in other avenues.

Linda was singing in little venues, including the town department store with her siblings, from a very early age, maybe her early teens. They were paid, so I guess that made her a professional.
