i know this might sound unfair , but is it just a coincedence that Brandon Lee, Scott Weiland and Chester Bennington all died , after being associated with the Stone Temple Pilots??? And arent the Deleo Brothers ( Robert and Dean ) of Italian heritage??? hmmmm I find it rather interesting . Maybe Brandon Lee, Scott Weiland and Chester Bennington were made offers they refused and then look what happened to them 😖😐Just something to think about

This is probably my single favorite tune from the “grunge” era…and that’s not a flippant statement. I started listening to this stuff in 1991 and followed it from Green River, The Melvins and Alice In Chains all the way until its conclusion with bands like Bush and Silverchair. There’s something about this tune. Even when I was a kid, I recognized its “nostalgic” melody, its hugely dynamic production and the stellar performance from each band member. The entire Purple album is a masterpiece but this song stands above the rest…in my opinion, at least.

I am a die hard Pearl Jam fan. I always have been and I always will be, but Big Empty is the best song of the era. Alive, Teen Spirit, Outshined, Cannonball: all great songs. None of them had the understated greatness that this tune had. I think this is the greatest pop rock song of all time.

I was 16 when this movie came out, I was living in a rented farmhouse with a bunch of teen goths and artists. The farm was a hour from town and I remember many nights driving back from the club at 5 am with the sun peaking over the horizon, the crow soundtrack played on the cars cassette till it broke. This song was a dreamy break in the hard pace of the album. Closing my eyes now years later I remember sitting in the backseat warm in camaraderie of my friends.

I'm a Hip-Hop head at heart, but I recently watched the movie The Crow and the song Big Empty from the soundtrack (by Stone Temple Pilots) has me on a 90s grunge revival. I was 11 in 1991 and I lived through the grunge days from 1990 to like 1997 when I was in middle school and high school. I vividly remember Black Hole Sun and the video on MTV. I never realized how much I loved the works of Chris Cornell and Scott Weiland. So many of these songs bring back memories, but I didn't understand them back then because I hadn't lived and experienced the pain of life. Going back and doing my research on this music and these bands now I realize not only how much I like 90s grunge music and so many of these bands, but also how amazing Chris Cornell was, how much I like his music and didn't even realize it, how many people he influenced, how many groups and super-groups he was a part of (Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, Audioslave). I never realized him and Eddie Vetter were together in Temple of the Dog. I never knew that he had a solo album produced by Hip Hop producer Timbaland. I never knew that he took over as lead singer of Rage Against the Machine and they became Audioslave, all I knew was that the few times I heard an Audioslave song I had to run over to see what it was because it had such an amazing sound. Him and Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver). I'm going through alot of things and having a tough time with life right now and I really feel a strong connection to the music of Chris Cornell, Scott Weiland, and Kurt Cobain. All 3 committed suicide. Maybe the best music only comes from those who see past the sugar coated top layer of the life people pretend to lead. People who feel the deepest pain. I don't know. Just thinking out loud. Rest in piece Chris, Scott, and Kurt, and thank you, so much.

For the longest time I've always wondered the name of this song. There was just something so cathartic if that's the word I wanna use, about listening to it. Best way I could describe it is this rusty, soothing old rock tune and time and time again, I failed to catch the name of it on the radio, always missing what the DJ said. Then I think it was when I was 19, during a time in my life when I was at the lowest of the low I figured it out or, perhaps more like I had remembered the long forgotten memory of it from my earlier youth or maybe even another life, another time, another dream. Big Empty by Stone Temple Pilots and as if it wasn't perfect enough on its own, it was part of The Crow OST, a film that holds close to my heart as much as this song does. From then on, I fell in love with STP and Scott. For the most part they were a coping mechanism to help me deal with the shit I had made of my life. I'm still working the kinks out, but I'm in a better place than I was then and even though I feel great loss when a popular mind, be it celeb or actor that I enjoy passes, nothing can describe the weight I felt knowing that Scott had lost his life to his demons. Drugs. I'm not perfect. I still got my bad habits and hangups at 27, but I'd like to do better at beating them and Scott, you were, no. You ARE an inspiration man. I'm saddened that I can't meet you now, one of my heroes. But I hope you're rocking it out up there man. You ain't gotta suffer no more, buddy. Peace and love, Scott. Thank you. You were a big part of not only the 90s, my era but of my life. Rock on brother. Rock on.
