Ok, lets set the record straight...Weiland was a melodic God... a cat who could craft an otherworldly melody and deliver it like no one else!! Agree thus far?? Good. That said, Jeff Gutt, had some pretty HUGE SHOES to fill. Well, one listen to the tunes on this new record, well, if you do not think he has MORE THAN RISEN TO THE CHALLENGE, you have to have ears made of CEMENT!! This cat is the real deal. He got the gig for many reasons. Not the least of which is he is a badass singer frontman and writer. All the STP hatwrs should listen again.

My respect for Dean, Robert and Eric for having enough patience to keep going after the loss of a good friend. Thanks for still rocking with us guys and congrats on the new singer. Jeff sounds amazing. STP is back!!! And by the way the new song sounds great! It has the essence of STP. And the vocals make it sound familiar without ripping off Scott. Jeff has his own style. Mooky Blaylock 3/4 of the original members are still in the band, and two of those are primary songwriters. It's still very much Stone Temple Pilots, and just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's "fucking stupid." It's smarter to keep the name anyway, as many people are already familiar with it. I believe Skynyrd only has one original member left, so why don't you go bother them instead?

R. Nashoba Sounds like the Cinnamon stuff but not as good. Scott was always melodically interesting. There will never be another Scott unfortunately. The more I listen to this, the more excited I get to hear the whole album. NOBODY can replace Scott, let's get that straight first and foremost. However, I'd say Jeff has managed to achieve his own style while at the same time adapting a vibe that's not all that different from what Scott pulled off in the Tiny Music/No. 4 era. That's quite a feat in and of itself...to sound familiar and yet not derivative at the same time. And I'm digging the heck out of it!

Jeff sounds like Scott, but still has his own unique voice too. They are different enough to be told apart but their delivery, timbre and tone are very similar. It’s not an easy thing to find a singer who ticks those boxes. Reminds me a bit of AC/DC with Bon Scott and Brian Johnson; again, different enough to tell apart but both with a similarly high and raspy delivery.

Why am I still seeing messages that STP is nothing without Scott? No shit, original STP in their prime was otherworldly. Nothing will be better than Weiland from 20+ years ago, but it's 2017 people, the 90's are long gone. These guys deserve to continue their career and play the music that we all love. For people that criticize them for keeping the band name...the music business has changed. Bands now make almost all of their money from touring, the other 3 members of the band are just as much a part of STP as Scott was/is. I will support them by buying their new album and seeing them live because I'm a fan and this sounds great.

People are entitled to their own opinion, neither David nor I are disputing this. David's opinion was in opposition to a popular and less accepting view and he made that point. It's nice to see some appreciation on here for the Deleo's...they are great and very underrated as musicians!!

As an absolute fan of Scott, I Feel almost guilty to like this sound. Good job STP

Nora B agreed. Thought I had missed a song someplace in time so I had to look it up. Really surprised. Can not blame them for wanting to carry on that sound and feel of original stp. It was hard since i have been a fan from the start and seeing them in concert when Core was out. Different but familiar.

exactly! I was hesitant to even listen to it but its good and I am glad to see STP get back up and doing what they love and do best!

Nora B You feel guilty because they hired someone to mimic his melodies and vocal style. Normal reaction, imagine if William DuVall copied Layne Staley? Thankfully he does his own thing and is a great vocalist.

Wow! What a great surprise! The band sounds pretty truthful to their identity and the new guy fits in perfectly. Happy to know we’ll still have Stone Temple Pilots in the future. Congrats, guys!

I really like this song, good stuff!! Welcome back STP! I wish people would stop saying Jeff sounds just like Scott though - i hear the difference...we should respect and remember Scott for all that he brought to us, and at the same time stop comparing Jeff to him because that seems a bit disrespectful in itself. Let's let this new era of STP bloom without comparisons, just listen and enjoy and be pleased that Jeff really brings it :)

Well then enjoy being stuck in the past, man... None of us wanted Scott to pass away, but he did... Are you really going to write this band off because of that? I love Scott just as much as you or any other STP fan, but there are 4 members in the band... and Scott is gone...

+Laz Loco I guess people hear the similarity of their voices (at least on this track) and are either comforted by it, as something familiar, or creeped out. Either way is valid, it's an opinion. You can't deny their voices are similar here and that shouldn't be any disrespect to Gutt. Shouldn't it be flattering?

Laz Loco We all saw it coming anyway. People compare the Alice in Chains guy to Layne. People compare Josh Klinghoffer to John Frusiante. People compare all of Pearl Jam's drummers. And people compared Chester to Scott before.
