I had a deep discussion with a classmate in 93 over STP and Pearl Jam. I suggested STP as the better band and would have a long career. He thought I was crazy and that STP was a second-rate grunge band. I countered that they were actually a Hard Rock/Metal band playing grunge at the moment. I think I nailed that one.

Stp > Pearl Jam
@rawkguy48964 жыл бұрын
I know I'm late but I genuinely the only things Pearl Jam had over STP is Pearl Jam was more mainstream (ironic) and Pearl Jam never fell apart because of drug addiction. As far as general hard rock, STP kicks the shit out of Pearl Jam. PJ never had the balls or testosterone to make something as heavy as Piece of Pie, Sex Type Thing, All in the Suit, or Heaven & Hot Rods. As far as experimentation STP also beats out Pearl Jam. Purple, Tiny Music and Shangri La are all cohesive and natural. Some of Pearl Jam's songs on No Code, Riot Act and most recently Gigaton are borderline unlistenable. You won't find garbage like Bushleager or Bugs in STP's discography cause they don't need to try hard. But still, I've always been super jealous of Pearl Jam fans. Their band grew in each subsequent decade and has endless live shows, performances and material. STP has a lot of side projects but its beyond too late to catch up. They could have been as highly regarded as Pearl Jam or Nirvana but today I think more people see them on the level of Bush or Smashing Pumpkins.

@@rawkguy4896 i still dont think Core sounds anything like Pearl Jam. And Scott Weiland was sooo much cooler than Eddie Vedder. I dont know man, in 2008 STP reformed and did a huge tour. I caught them here in New Orleans at Voodoo Fest with my sons mom. We just started dating. STP was sooooo good and the headlined the first night and they had a bigger crowd and played longer than all the other headliners like NIN, Lil Wayne, and Manson. So they are definitely more highly considered and known and remembered than Smashing Pumpkins and shit ton more than Bush. Besides Billy Corgan is focusing on being a pro wrestling promoter. Funny that Billy Corgan is such a huge wrestling ners
@flipjupiter1 Жыл бұрын
well, Pearl Jam is still going strong in 2023. Still selling out stadiums and playing all over the world. I love both bands. I think STP has a fantastic small sample size. Core and Purple and fantastic. Tiny Music is wonderful. And thats it. 3 great albums. Pearl Jam just released Gigaton 2 years ago and its f'n badass. Experimental and retro in some places, heavy hard rock in others. Vedder is the better lyricist. Overall, I think Eddie is the best song writer. Lyrically, he is what every song writer wishes he could be. PJ, like all bands had a lot of turmoil and shit got crazy. Eddie was an insane front man who put his life at risk every night. Just watch their live shows from the mid 90s. He put everything in to his live performances. Also, he had the best voice. Not octave high like Cornell and Plant, but deep and dirty which I love. I love STP a lot and still listen to them. But PJ is the best of the best.

Whiskey tit - Trying to clue Kretz in on the timing, tempo, beat. Not an easy feat to convey to a drummer but I give Kretz all the credit in the world for listening to what the songwriter (Dean) has in mind. I've known drummers that would actually get OFFENDED if you tried to show them what you have in mind. They perceive it as you, a non-drummer, telling them what to do. But those are the ones that end up sitting on their couch at home pulling their puds to Kretz on t.v.
