This part III in the "Peak Forest Quarry" "series" Another few days just keeps bringing more and more freight trains, empty or loaded. The second Sunday of the holiday and I venture out of an amazing footpath along the side of Tunstead Quarry, It's incredible to see the vast scale of the quarry from up high.
Monday 26 June I decided to look for a path that I saw in a old video filmed in 1990 on KZbin around Peak Forest quarry, I picked the start of the path up just a little further up the road from the DB Schenker depot, It run parallel to the tracks running down the hill towards Tunstead Quarry, across a new wooden bridge that crosses a little mini gorge, I stopped opposite DB's sidings and watched the trains roll in.
First what comes down the hill but a Freightliner with its many a decorated wagons, then shortly after that a DB red 66 and a full rake of red wagons.
A little lite engine and then a GBRF 66 stops in front of me and reverses into Cemex quarry. Finishing of another amazing day was the usual class 60 from Tunstaed and the shortly after that another GBRF (pos an ex DRS loco) but this time a loaded one. Enjoy

Why are some of the locomotives headlights and the configuration different from others?

To be honest I'm not sure, if your talking about the lights that are on it might be down fact that you have daytime lights, nighttime lights and yard lights (like daytime running lights for cars) and depends how the driver has set it up, possibly...🤷‍♂️👍

@mrmartinb1615 I’m just curious about British railroad equipment. I appreciate you answering it for me. Thank you for the video and your hard work.

@@stupidkid351With the number of 66’s produced you have different headlight versions that have developed over the years, the ones that are not very bright were typical on the EWS/DB ones as they were the first produced, the early Fliner and GB ones were similar. DB have now started modifying some of theirs with LED lights which are obviously much brighter, and later GB & Fliner one’s came with brighter headlights from the factory. As has already been said you also have day and night settings on them, day has the headlight on the right, night is on the left (where the driver sits). On DB LED modified ones lights on both sides are on in both settings, the daytime setting just makes them brighter than the night setting. You also have the option to just have the marker lights on (centre above the window plus left and right small lights), these are often used when not running on the main line, just moving around in yards and depots, plus other occasions as indicated in rule book, like working in an engineering worksite.

Such a great little area. Its a shame that I really never saw the class 20s in true action. To access that path you walk past DB Schenkers depot heading towards Upper End Village and its literally about 50 yards or so on the left, at the time the entrance was a little over grown and I only found out about it via a video on KZbin filmed around the early 1990s and I spotted it on that. Its called BR in the 1990s Peak Forest between 1991 and 1994 RT 86mins. Good luck.

@@mrmartinb1615 Thanks Martin we live in Mansfield but the missus likes to shop once a month in Buxton so we stop at peak quarry on way back thanks for info, I use to work at Shirebrook West in the 1970s loads of 20s on shed for working collieries, I was part of a crew which once took 2 20s on a class six train to Toton not really allowed we should have had a brake van by rights but we got away with it good times.

@@tonyrobinson362 Your welcome, we had a nice little visit to Buxton when we stayed in the village of Peak Forest for two weeks. The viaduct is impressive. Wow, seeing all the 20s on coal workings must have been a sight.....now unfortunately all gone😪...Hey I'm sure there was plenty of naughty stuff going on lkke that..🤣🤣. Its incredible how quickly time moves on....and not always for the better. Its amazing to see in old videos of 'Peak Forest' how much all the trees have now grown in the vicinity. All the best.
