First off great channel!! My dad died of Covid in April, and I’ve decided to become a more hands on man, and I need to stay busy to try and deal with the trauma of it. Your videos and channel has given me a calm, collected way to approach life and staying busy to keep your mind off things. The craziest part, I haven’t even started my projects yet. I watch all your videos and for months now I think I’m ready to start something, when I can afford to order some of the product from you. Thanks again for what you do and helping me get through some tough times!

Hey Blake this is Mitch. My condolences on your dad. I lost mine as well a year ago to cancer. I've taken the same approach with grief, work right through it. Some days are better than others. My dad and I worked on some river tables together and doing this work brings me closest and the most joy. I'd like to send you some materials to work with, I hope it helps. Send your shipping address to mitch@stonecoatcountertops.com Hang in there pal, You Got This!

I'm so glad you guys advertise like you do on KZbin. I found you while watching some custom woodworking channels. But I reached out to two other epoxy companies and they told me an epoxy coat on a sink couldn't be done.... you just told them "hold my beer!"
@alecb8509
@alecb8509 2 жыл бұрын
I bet the companies you called do outstanding work. The quality of this top is going to be mediocre at best. You can see the reflection of the backsplash and it has horrible orange peel. You would need to coat just the backsplash multiple times to bury the fleck texture. Then you would need to sand and sand and sand before the top coat. That would be the only way to get a quality mirror finish. No reputable company will spend the multiple days on site to do that. The companies that do will give you a substandard finish and take your money.

How do keep epoxy from running in the sink bowl?
@guyh.4553
@guyh.4553 2 жыл бұрын
Love the look. 2 questions I have about this. 1) How do you ensure that the back splashes are the same thickness of epoxy as the counter top? Gravity says that it will never be that way without removing them. 2) With the Rustoleum Granite spray, based on the caps, I thought that the color on the can was what came out of the can. I.E. gray cap with flecks vs clear coat with flecks. Didn't know that you had to have an undercoat paint.

my cultured marble vanity top with 1 sink is 55" long by 22" wide and has a built in backsplash on the rear, and an option one on the left. Since the left backsplash is removable I will lay it on it's side, but the rear is another story, I'll let the epoxy run down and connect with the bottom epoxy. It's not a squared off built-in backsplash. It's rounded so it flows down to the horizontal plane at a slight rounded 90 degree angle (it's hard to explain, sorry). So that's what I will try to do, but I'm not sure if it will work. I'm looking for a video that they might have done with one like it.

There is quite a bit of orange peel in the final finish. Are you able to get a glass smooth finish or is that just they way it is? Possibly the paint specs, maybe another layer of epoxy.
@Iamk2jones
@Iamk2jones Жыл бұрын
Yes you can. But you need to sand with a fine grit sand paper. But that will make it the top hazy and you will need to polish it with a buffer or by hand. That is the only way to get a glass like finish I think.

That looked easy and the finish is really nice. Mitch can you tell me if I can do it on my marble countertop and my porcelain sink? I’d like to change the colours. Thanks

Great job Bro. 👍 Must be a tough sell asking the customer not to use their bathroom sink for 3+ days.

Not really. If you have 2 bathrooms- start with one of them and use the other bathroom. When that's done, switch. It's what I'm doing in my house now. One bathroom is out of commission while the other gets all fixed up. Easy enough

looks great. question, can a person do a kitchen sink? i live in a 5th wheel and dropped a large frozen ham in the sink and cracked it. now it leaks and i can't find a sink to replace it. it's a odd size and nothing i have considered will work. it's a double sink. i'd have to put a bonding agent to fill the crack and sand it down. then cover it with epoxy or so i think.. my interior is mostly pecan wood finish. do you have any suggestions? thanks-- it's a fiberglass sink

You mentioned before adding the ultimate top coat that the counter top could be considered complete. What's the advantage of the ultimate top coat and is it necessary on a dirty pour? My order arrived today I should be giving it a shot in both bathrooms and my kitchen in the next couple of weeks but I didn't purchase the top coat.

I absolutely loved the video I can't wait to try some stone coat product for myself. I have one question. It looked like am orange peel finish on the finished product. Is that just the way the light was catching or is there a way to buff the orange peel off

This May be a stupid question.... I don't have a torch, will a hot air hair blow dryer do the job?🤔

A heat gun would be a better choice. But if all else fails, you can use a blow dryer but you will need to extend the time removing air bubbles from the mixed epoxy and I would also mix by hand with a paint stick for a good 5 min. This will incorporate less air into the epoxy mixing. Wal-mart sell a heat gun under $20, it would be a good investment

Is that a NEW ultimate top coat? You now have a gloss finish? Does it lay down flat? Or is it slightly dimpled like the other mat finish? I’m very interested..

Can this be done on a porcelain kitchen sink too? From what I figured it would be less expensive that getting a new stainless steel kitchen. I would prefer a stainless but I can live with a epoxy make over instead if it can be done.

What a transformation! I would like it even better if it was a pour to look like marble. It looked better just after cleaning and sanding it.

I would like to do this, but Idk how to fix cracks formed at bottom of sink which started when a plumber put in a new sink plug. Can the cracks be sanded or buffed down and sealed in some way, then do this technique to resurface? The Plumber company spaced us totally off after saying the surface could be buffed out. They claimed they didnt cause the crack. They sealed slight leak underneath which is fine, but I was so mad they provided no other recourse. Since then, there are more cracks. Is it beyond hope?
