Love how you are not afraid to “fill your space”. I am a designer and have always loved groupings. I’ll be honest; very few people feel comfortable covering wall space like you do. It’s pure perfection. I try to convince my clients “fill your space”. You are the only utuber I watch who really knows how to accomplish a successful picture grouping! It takes a while, but homes are so much more interesting and inviting when you collect over time instead of running to a big box store where nothing is really special. You are doing a lovely job. 👍🌷

Hello, Miss Lisa! It does take time to figure out where your comfort level is with art. For some, gallery walls are too busy, for others it's homey and pleasant. It also takes time to learn what subjects go well together and how best to hang them. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!

Loved the valance When my mother-in-law and father- in-law made theirs in the 1940's and 1950's they padded the board first, then put the fabric under panel as you did, then a drapery material he got that an expensive hotel in downtown Cleveland, Ohio had already thrown out. It was a beautiful floral pattern. They then covered the board as you did front and back. BUT, they also covered the whole back, so that when seen from the outside it was a truly finished piece. She had enough drapes that when closed it covered the whole width from window to window and a little beyond on each side, so that the drapes that didn't pull back in the middle of the two windows covered the bare wall. Wish we had a picture....there was enough drapery material for the front window which wasn't such a large expanse and there were two smaller windows in the little side room used for dining that received the same window treatment....it was a tiny home, but her eye for doing these projects was very clever and made everything very cohesive and home....y.. That fabric not sought for everywhere is very, very costly....I've seen it online making a comeback....if I ever find out the name of it I'll let you know....and to think the hotel just threw them out....those drapes went to the Grand Canyon on their home there...dad worked at the Canyon

I would do the valance box! For years I would make valances and slip covers to change the look in the living room. I have a cottage style that I’ll call American, I have things from different time periods even 30’s and 50’s.it’s great to show how to problem solve a “problem” of the drapes being short! I also use cards for framing, I use wallpaper scraps which I discovered during renovations of our house, wrapping paper from a special gift my husband gave me when we were first married. Scraps of vintage fabric.I also will use severely damaged book prints. But it has to be beyond useful!!! We love books but sometimes they are of no use other then preserving a few pages.😏I have some of my vintage dishes in baskets on display in my kitchen and I use them everyday. It’s my way of making everyday special, and being thankful for every day.Surrounding our lives with the things that bring pleasure, make us comfortable we make our homes unique that’s what I enjoy about cottage style.

When I was a little girl about the age of 5 years old my mom made the curtains, bedding, painted the headboard, footboard and dresser with beautiful flowers. I still have it until this day. I am saving it for my kids when they have kids. My 2 beautiful nieces have used it when they were little. Now they are beautiful adults. I'm going to take picture and email you. I always enjoy your channel. And the beautiful picture that I won in your other giveaway, is hung in my husband's office. He claimed it. And I apologize for not sending you a thankyou. You are so refreshing to watch. I appreciate your content so much and I agree with what you said about buying artwork for a gallery wall that “you” are attracted too and not what others like. I have recently completed 2 gallery walls in my home one theme I gravitate towards are trees. Over the course of a few months not realizing it, I had purchased about 4-5 vintage pieces of art that all had beautiful trees in them. My other gallery wall is all unified by florals. Anyhow I appreciate all the time you put into filming, arranging, and editing your videos ☺️ Your home is amazing and looks SO cozy.

So many things resonated with me in this video! Many things in your home remind me of the home I grew up in. My mother never let a window go without a pelmet! :) I have many of the same collections as you do, including the pig cutting board above my stove. My great uncle raised pigs and had many pig collectables in his home> when I saw this cutting board at a thrift store many years ago, I had to have it to serve as a daily reminder of this dear relative whom I helped on his farm growing up. But, I was very touched to see the Rosemary spice jar. My grandmother's name was Rosemary. She tragically passed away before I was born and I have been told my whole life that I resemble her. My mother was going to name me after her but she had named my older brother so when I came along, it was Dad's turn to pick. :) I have often looked for something with Rosemary written on it in my treasure hunts to serve as a reminder of her but so far, have yet to find anything. I have certainly filled out the entry form but know whomever wins the drawing will love owning this special piece. Sorry for such a long comment but I loved seeing so many things that I have in my home or grew up with showcased in your lovely home. Looking forward to the next video. Thank you!

I use the wax candle covers always! Your taste is right up my alley. I’ve been collecting for 30 years. I’m 60 so I really don’t need anything but I am going to add some beadboard to an English Cottage bedroom, and I’m changing out my drapes in some of my rooms. Painting my dining room “pink ground” by Farrow and Ball is in my plans, !as I got a very expensive toile from my best friend (drapes already made). I collect blue and white so luckily the toile has French blue in the pattern so it will go lovely with my blue and white as well as the other French Blue fabric I have. I love the green in one of the photos you shared. It was painted on picture frame molding. Blue and white is lovely with green !!! Now I want to make a padded valence somewhere since your tutorial. Thank you for all the inspiration ! By the way, I have found my best sets of books at Estate sales ! You should try high end estate sales as you usually get very high quality. Also, I plan on adding the fabric to my lamp shades since your tutorial. I have two small ones I paid to have made years ago. They were 250.00 a piece to have made. THANK YOU for showing me how to do my own!!! Sincerely, Lisa.

Isn't it amazing what can be achieved with minimal cost if one is prepared to wait and source secondhand! The pelmet looks fantastic, love the bird prints gallery wall, the curtain, and yes the lights too. I can't remember the last time I bought from a store. Even my lightglobes I try to get at our lions shed. With pelmets, I've also used blankets to pad them out, ones that have done their time and are no longer able to be mended. Thankyou Rachel and Matt, I hope you both have a wonderful weekend. Much love Liana 😊 xx

Also, I read “The Five Little Peppers and How They Grew” to my children. I’m happy to have passed along my love of perusing old bookstores to my children. We are fortunate to have a great used bookstore in our town in spite of how small and isolated it is, and they get just as excited as I do to find these treasures. Admittedly, we have several copies of some of our favorites just because we can’t pass it up when come across a beautiful old copy if it’s a good deal. Besides, I have a lot of children and as they grow up they will want to have copies of their own (they’re already claiming them and hoarding them in their bedrooms, and I often have to go hunting them down when we need certain books for our schooling, lol!)

I made a pelmet out of foam board,an old mattress cover and fabric. I used a combination of t pins and white duck tape. I made a strip of foam board across the top. I hung it with two L brackets. It was in my bedroom until I recently took it down after two years. It was very lightweight. Yours came out so nice

I had a housefire which smoked up the interior really badly when I was out of town. The interior was stripped down to the studs to get rid of the smoke smell, so I had a chance to redo the interior completely. Ambiance had been sadly lacking in my bungalow, so I worked hard to put some back in. With the exception of a pair of chandeliers to replace the vintage one (updated building code required an 18" structual beam to go where the fixture had been, so one either side of the beam was required) and a stained glass fixture in the bathroom, all my lighting fixtures came from the classifieds or thrift stores and I love it!

@@StoneCottageHome I have to say I had a blast. I replaced the old tub with a claw foot tub, Portugues encaustic look tile, and wainscotting in the bathroom. I ripped out the post construction 1970s fireplace and put in a vintage quartersawn oak mantle for a smaller and more proportional gas fireplace, moved the furnace and a few doors for a more functional layout. The interior is great now, where I couldn't stand it before. Now if I could just replace the tatty aluminum siding on the exterior for some stone veneer... I've always wanted my dream cottage in Wales, so my amibtion is to turn my house into one, here.
