Probably the best cottage style overview video out there! These different styles, while related, have distinctions that you so accurately point out. I'm drawn to all of them, but I think my use of china and plates as decor and wall art puts my style most closely in the English cottage category. I think after watching this that my style of farmhouse definitely is a combination of vintage farmhouse and English cottage. 38 years married so far and my husband & I finally love the style in our home. @@StoneCottageHome from todays visit we were able to see several ideas using colors and patterns that we like. I have been adding some thrifted art to our home and decluttering decor to bring a more curated look to our home. We are not too keen on a lot of clutter. The English cottage is most definitely our favorite of all the styles you shared. We look forward to seeing more updates as you do them in your home. Our next room to update is our main floor bath. The tub, toilet and sink are original to the house and have to stay, at least for now. They are black so I’m trying to find ideas to best suit them. Have a wonderful weekend.

Oh this was fun. Do not know why you quit showing up for me. All was ticked. But I have enjoyed catching up. My house is very small but it is pretty and comfortable. It makes it fun to stay home and enjoy it when I can't get out. I never tire of it. I love each piece as I remember where and how I got it. A mix of English and French cottage. Many treasures from English but mostly French Flea markets, Brocantes. My health is not great now so doubt I will travel again. Just found you via the collab with She Holds Dearly and a few others! I'm so glad I did! This video was such perfect timing for me (even though you filmed in April). We are adding onto our home, and my plans are to mostly decorate in the French Country Cottage style. Mostly neutrals with blue and white. But in my dining room, I want to incorporate more color with all my beautiful depression glass and floral china patterns! I thought about keeping the walls very neutral and even the furniture neutral as well so I can incorporate color. I'm hoping it will all blend together well. Thanks. I am redecorating my interior and back yard to incorporate elements of the modern cottage (No Shabby Chic!!) to my modern trac-style neighborhood home (KB Builder, Model 2502). I hope to add a 4-season enclosed patio. Unfortunately. I have 8' ceilings and a narrow living space due to lot size and reorientation of interior space, but these elements have provided me with some design cues to start my interior design work.

Another channel that has a very unique style kinda french rustic neutral tones is Sarah's October Home. Her recent bathroom makeover, and master bedroom makeover is really pretty, and kinda her own, but none the less very pretty. Most of her items are thrifted, which makes it nice.

Thank you so much! I love Modern cottage because of the minimalism and calm, while maintaining a warm, comforting, elegance, but most of the inspo I find for it either looks like 17:34 or too contemporary, when I'm looking for something more like 17:43 or 7:06. With earth tones and dark wood. Oh well, I'm probably just going to use traditional English Cottage inspo and just pair it down a little. Your guide was so helpful. :)

I found myself not breathing when you showed these beautiful homes. They are so stunning and something to aspire to. My home has been a variation of most all of them plus farmhouse. I have the same trouble as the viewer described in thier letter. I love the old world style, a bit of French and English country. But I also love just plain vintage so I end up with things that dont define the style that I would like to see in my home setting. Not to mention I constantly change my mind about pieces I buy. I may think I love them when I purchase them but in a matter of months I look around my home and it is full of things I wish I hadn't bought.😔 I thought this was happening because I was buying pieces that were in need of repair and do the refurbishments myself to stay with in my budget. So I decided to spend more on a couple of pieces in hopes I would stay in love with them but eventually I grew less fond of those pieces as well. I so desperately want to get to a point in my home decor that I'm done with the designing and can just enjoy cleaning and swapping out seasonal candlesticks and enjoy the fruits of my labor. But with the route I'm on..... well I'm just lost! Lol

Good afternoon, Miss Lydia! Believe it or not, this is a common experience with those honing their design style. There is a period of experimentation where mistakes are made. I've went through this stage as well & was glad the items were thrifted! A couple tips that may help you pass through this phase is first, to really pin down what you like. This can be done by creating a board of favorites on Pinterest. See if there is a pattern to what you're choosing. Note which items stick around the longest. Second, when you buy that "perfect" thing & it doesn't end up working then ask yourself "why". By answering this question you will begin to spot things you would've bought, but now know why they don't work for you. Lastly, be patient with yourself, as people we will continue to change throughout our lives ~ as will our decor tastes. You'll still make mistakes now & again, and your style will continue to evolve. As I add in the different styles in, I make sure they are in the same color family and theme. Is there such a thing as transitional cottage style?
