The reason why the names of the characters' and the town's name changed was because, when the first film got to the US, they changed their names for some reason. (Except for V8) In the second, they kept their original names from the original brazilian version. Also, "Kombo" is a reference to VolksWagen vans and V8 is a brazillian car

I remember going to the store with my mom when I was 7 or 8 years old and seeing one of the Little Cars movies on the list of available DVD rentals. Back then I thought it was just some dumb movie for toddlers based on the title “little cars”, though I did notice that the tow truck looks the same as the Volkswagen micro-bus hippie character from the actual Cars films.

There are 3. In the first one, Kombo gets a girlfriend who doesn’t appear again (but is in the later films), Kombo becoming a racer against his will, and Kris doing with Tony to a high society party.
