When I was young, I made a decision to never talk about 'the good old days'. Living in the here and now was my plan for life. But I can't help but think that 40 years ago I was celebrating the Solstice at Stonehenge and having one of the times of my life. Times sure have changed...

Yes, I was there for 2 weeks in June 83!!!/ .Better than Glastonbury in 86. Best experience in my.life. Still.got my free festival t shirt..I.hitchiked here from.Hastings with a friend called Hazel. I was 21!!!! Still would go there now. This time of year getting near the solstice , brings back good vibes.. I remember sitting near the ancient burial mounds watching the night sky .Strange lights in the sky.. No.wonder my son Sam went to be a new age traveller, and spent last summer with the Rainbow family!!! It's in his genes!!!

I loved the old Stonehenge festivals, glad I was able to experience them, '83 was my best ever . The days when there was still a bit of freedom left. Festivals have been pretty much corporatised now.

The day before the Solstice I picked my girlfriend up from Gatwick. We were both 21 and she was a Californian. We went straight to Stonehenge and managed to find friends and made camp. W dropped around midnight and after Hawkwind made our way inside the circle as the sun broke over the Healsone on a crystal clear dawn. Just gobsmacking. Being from San Francisco, she had never seen anything older than 150 years old and was now inside the Stonehenge at solstice sunrise ..on acid. Not a bad first day.

Saw the campsite outa the back of an army truck. 1 Para moving from Edinburgh to Bullford. Would jump on my Vespa and slip by the military Police at the Campsite. The Army said we were banned from the festival. I ended up going AWOL in 84 & enjoyed Stonehenge again. I used to buy my hash.& acid from the Peace Convoy in 84.when they camped out in woods near a horse racing track. Bought my goods from a guy called Old Apple Brian. He was a cool cat. Live in California, miss Salisbury & good times

I hitch hiked from Glastonbury festival to Stonehenge festival. Set off around 5pm and got to the A303 about 11pm. Hottest day of the year I was tired and contemplating pitching my tent on a roundabout when a little Honda car stopped and a girl stuck her head out of the passenger side window and asked if I was going to Stonehenge. I was so grateful. Her and her husband were so generous and kind. If you're reading this Alan and Lianne Rodgers from Exeter, I'm eternally grateful. Cheers. Alex.

Oh man! I was there, somewhere... Just a non-bearded student then. I remember the Enid, and Hawkwind playing as the sun rose on Solstice morning... WOW! Many, many happy memories of this... Love, heat, music, sleeping under a Landrover, altered consciousness, the guy we fed cornflakes... Than you so much for posting.

83... one of the best....I remember I did opiated black hotknives for a quid within two minutes of arriving in site... wow! The LOVE vibe was amazing that year, just radiant, yeah for Woody and yeah for Where's Wally! and the Tibetan Ukranian Mountain Troupe and the sun and all its convoy were there....amazing times. I went from there to living on a side of a hill outside of Hay-on-Wye and doing a gazillion CND marches... kids today... they just don't know what they're missing..... :-D

LOL, We hitched up from Bath, Rich, Clair and me. First night hanging out with the Smart pils crowd, got some speed and shrooms and assisted a truely divine experience with Hawkwind on main stage, I crashed with sara in some bender and then next day we walked to the stones with the entire encampment while the law just watched from a distance. Amazing day, hippies dancing naked and us speeding our heads off. lost my mohican many many years ago but still got ahole in my nose from my nose stud!.

this was my last stoney fest. In a small tent I saw some painted men performing…I was stuck to the floor and walls…they said they were Tibetans, but I later found out they were Ozric Tentacles…There was good and bad acid, good and bad Hell's Angels. One tried to kill me, another saved me from His wrath. A strange lady thought I was a demon, but I knew she was a disguised devil…An odd friend saw imps where previously there had been only boy-children…I waited many days for food, a weird concoction of something that might have been dragon's eggs…and, trickling through the not-necessarily-all-pervasive music that was my mother's nourishing milk, came fluids now abandoned that succoured me in my need…Has my mind and history drifted? Or have the sentient substances at last left me alone?

My second time here - it was about 90 Fahrenheit took acid and god knows why but three of us in tiny tent - jake farted and in the 110 degree polyester cocoon became planet fart . Best smelly one ever for I. Dunno what else occurred .- now I know ..for starters I was staggered how the place although had BRILLIANT VIbe, , had a class structure in the daytime because some poor sods slept in bin bags while I saw a guy in ex army vehicle clutching a chunky walk-in talkie...posey fucker. Saw No hassle there and Buster Bloodvessel asleep in deck chair and nik turner and dr and the medics maybe too. Thankyou for unloading this Treasure. Love from hordle on sea

Question: was this the last time we were allowed into the stones? I seem to remember it was 83 I was there, and I did get into the stones at the solistice day, no restrictions, but I can't remember for sure the year. i never made it to the stage, busy at the campfire making brews, chapatis and skinning up. Or wandering around admiring the buses and trucks and chattimg to folk. Peace!
