The PGS provides a quick and easy method of laying out 20mm holes at near CNC accuracy. You can then use the Veritas Parf Dogs with your track saw to make perfect right angle or 45 degree cuts.
With the PGS you can make as many custom bench tops, track saw cutting stations or portable cutting boards as your work requires - an invaluable tool to take on site or have in your workshop.

Very smart to use the old 3-4-5 triangle as the basis for the hole making. Thanks for bringing this piece of kit into the market.

Hundreds of people asking, nah! that was only me asking about the hole pattern time and again... I'm speechless. THAT'S BRILLIANT! You know I've got access to a CNC at work, with this jig I don't have to ask favors to use the machine for personal stuff. I believe that taking time and being careful you can make the perfect pattern. And I'll be "greedily" waiting to see what other jigs you'll make with "hole pattern". Thank you Peter for all the work and thought you put on it. I am impressed. "Chapeau" my friend. As always GREAT JOB. Pedro.

+Pedro Soto Hi Pedro, What a kind and thoughtful person you are. I am sorry that I had to keep all this a secret for so long but every single piece had to be perfect. You are right about the accuracy which I hope is clear to see in the videos. I have a few bits of video work to do not related to the PGS but I will be doing some PGS "Xtras" showing some jigs and things very soon. Many thanks, Peter

Hi Matt, I am really pleased that you are happy with the system. It took a huge amount of development to get things perfect. I started with wooden mock-ups, then aluminium ones and 3 years later the finished system. I wonder whether you would be happy to leave a review on the product page of the Axminster web sit or (if it is possible) on the web site of the company that you bought it from? It would really help others thinking about buying the system. Cheers. Peter

I've watched your videos regarding this system with wonder and was extremely impressed with the 0.2mm/m accuracy achieved with the TS55. I had to shop around a little but have managed to order the full system with dogs from Axminster and another Ebay seller. Excellent result. Good luck with the weather. One point that I have not made in any video (yet) and I will correct this soon - the 3 mm guide pins do not have to be pushed all the way in up to the hilt - just about 6 - 7 mm so that they register the position of the Parf Stick or the 20 mm Guide. I just received this amazing jig and I think i'm about to go HAM and drill 20mm holes on every vertical and horizontal surface in my work shop. The accuracy has been amazing, I took my time and drilled a reasonably large array of 8 x 12 holes into my new workbench top, and I can confirm the accuracy parf advertises. I have a little feedback: the 3mm pin heads are tough on the fingers even with gloves. I suggest either adding some cushioning or enlarging the head of the pins so one can get a good grasp on them while removing them from the bench. Other than that, amazing work.
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Colin, Brilliant - thank you so much for the feedback. The 3 mm pins do not need to go all the way in as long as they register the Parf Stick in place but I think that you are right that they could be improved. Thank you again - how about putting a review on the Axminster web site ? Cheers. Peter
@fwanknmt
@fwanknmt 7 жыл бұрын
Yup, I learned that immediately after bottoming out the pin head during my initial use--it's extremely difficult to remove a bottomed out pin from the bench top. However, the sticks / guide bar do feel extremely solid with the pins bottomed out. This _may_ be a good way to further increase the accuracy if you / UJK can figure out a way to make removing the pin easier on the finger tips. Perhaps some sort of extraction tool that pulls the pin up at a perfect 90 degrees. Making a larger knob could enable someone to gain too much leverage and bend a fully seated pin--dunno. Thanks again, I'll leave a review.

Hello Peter. I have the Mark 2 version. This is an amazing tool that you have created. The tolerance on this tool is incredibly tight. with that said, the check that you run at the 4 minute mark in your video has been off by a smidge. In other words, I'm unable to seat the two pins on this horizontal line in the two times I've tried. I think the tolerance is so tight that the overlap of the parf sticks are making the hypotenuse just shy of 10. I overlap the hypotenuse stick on each side which probably pulls each side to the center by a hair. Have you noticed this? In the end, this is an incredible system you have created.

Hi Ted, Having thought about this a little more I think that you may have allowed a bit of error to creep in during the early part of the 3 mm drilling. Can you confirm that you are using the original Parf Guide System? Peter
@tedh3427
@tedh3427 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Peter. I’m using the Mark 2 system. I can’t imagine making a mistake on the first horizontal row. After the first row, i created the two outer columns. I overlapped the hypotenuse part stick on both triangles. The first check is where it barely fails. If you could show how your pins go in on that first check, that would convince me that I’m either doing something wrong or my part sticks are faulty. NOTE: this is my second set of parf sticks as the first pair were warped.
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 5 жыл бұрын
Did you clamp the Parf Stick in place as you drilled the very first row and did you start that row by drilling a hole at each end and putting a 3 mm pin in straight away? Peter
@tedh3427
@tedh3427 5 жыл бұрын
yes i did Peter. I did notice in another video, 'Matt' put the pins in the parf stick first and then inserted the pin in the drilled hole, where I laid the parf stick down and tried to insert the pin in the parf stick and the hole. hmmm. Do you recommend putting the pin in the stick first and then inserting it into the 3mm hole?

Hi Peter, What is the optimum size for the MDF piece? Is there a better type of MDF or is it all pretty much the same? Thanks Geoff
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 8 жыл бұрын
+Geoff Meston Hi Geoff, Yesterday we did a tiny piece about 700 mm x 400 mm. My track saw cutting station is about 1100 mm x 1800 mm. The largest span (row wise) of holes that I would recommend is 11 plus 4 either side which makes 19 holes or 18 lots of 96 mm in between. Technically one could have the same maximum for the column dimension but that actually makes it difficult to clamp the Parf Sticks for the first square as shown in the videos. So I would say that the practical column max is 13 holes (1152 mm) which with a margin of 50 mm is your standard 1220 mm width of a sheet. This can be increased if you have some of those long reach clamps. For MDF I recommend Moisture Resistant (MR) MDF as it has a hard outer layer which is great for track saw work. HDF (CNC grade) is also excellent. The special 20 mm cutters handles both of these extremely well. Peter

Should there be any play at all in the bush guide and the shaft of the 20mm cutter?
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, There has to be a tiny bit otherwise it will not run. However, if it seems stiff then it may be that you need to try to get it lined up a little more accurately as you slide it into the guide bush. You must put a dash of oil on the shaft of the cutter before it goes into the bush (and again if you move it from one bush to another). The is a very slim chance that there might be a burr on the lip of the bush so try it in the other one to check or feed it in the wrong way for a test. If you really feel that there is a problem with the equipment delivered then please do not hesitate for one second to contact the Axminster support team. Please keep me informed of progress and I will do everything that I can to help. Peter

The guide holes are 3mm, the finished holes are 20mm - so why the layout grid is 96mm and not 100mm? I think we are in Europe and don't use this irregular imperialistic inches...
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 8 жыл бұрын
+horolog 3800 It is historical. My early worked used 1m lengths for the Parf Sticks and then we ended up using 1m rules for the final prototypes. With my 1m blank I went in 20 mm from each end and then divided the remaining space into 10 - hence 96 mm. You can also divide 96 by 2 and get an integer result more times than you can with 100. The initial price was at a loss in order to introduce the system. You have neglected to spot that there have been several other improvements including the oil-less bearings and the improved Parf Sticks. On top of all of that you have to understand that this took 3 years of development and that will take at least 2 more years to offset. In the meantime further improvements are being examined and if these are considered to be successful then that continued development will be paid for by future sales. Forgive me, if you have ever developed a new product and brought it to market, as I am sure that you would understand all of this. Peter

I can't have it always my way of course. I had one other question. The holes are obviously perfectly squared towards each other. The holes might not be squared in relation to the edge (of course visually they will be).I was thinking if you would widen one of the rulers to the width of the first row and have small angle you could also use the factory edge of the mdf..the other ruler would need to be flat of course. Anyway just thinking out loud . It a very nice tool Peter!

+Martijn Fransen What if you do the hole pattern and after, using the parf dogs, you put your straight edge against it (if necessary put a 4 square piece of wood in between) and cut with the circular saw near the edge, that way that edge will be parallel to the holes. Do so on all four sides and you got it. Cheers

I love Peters vids... however I'm not too sure about this product...without appearing insincere...IMHO it's a little expensive and time consuming and... if you go wrong halfway through? ...D'oh! Go to a CNC shop and get them to do it for you, it'll be perfect every time! You could even do a couple of panels. It wouldn't require a lot of know how to draw up the file in Adobe illustrator and export as a DXF ...even if the CNC shop has to draw it up , once it's on their system next time it'll be quicker (and Cheaper) and you can spend your time doing something useful.

Super product but, for me and other woodworker I know, it's really too expansive. Not sure that this commercial strategy for the price will be the best...

+Jean Aimarre Hi Jean, There will be some people who cannot afford one but there are possibilities for members of a woodworkers' club or group to buy one and share it. The price is actually very keen as it has taken 3 years of development and is less than the cost of one replacement bench top from well known manufacturers. The high demand also indicates that Axminster have done a great job honing the price down and taking a long term view of the market. Peter

+New Brit Workshop (Peter) you re right Peter. I think the best way is to share the tool. But it limits the possibilities for the woodworker who can t share.

Hi Bob, Well done. I am sorry about the delay in getting your order completed - things have just gone too well ! Axminster are really pulling out all the stops and so all I can do is reassure people that everyone is doing their best. I would love to see pictures or even a video of the setup that you and your son use. Cheers. Peter
