Bruce took the Ronette's version and made it eternal. I know lots of folks roll their eyes whenever this comes on the radio. But in 1976 it was fresh and incredibly endearing. I think it was Bruce's first live single ever! So we got a look (ear?) into what a Springsteen concert was like. Joyous, rollicking and seemingly unscripted. It remains in my top three Christmas songs along with Darlene Love and The Pogues. Bob Seger Drummer Boy a close 4th. Thank you Bruce for rocking not one, but two Christmas classics.

i went to see Springsteen back in the 70's, at the Providence R.I. civic center, in July, Bruce asked what song we all wanted to hear, everyone screamed Santa Claus is coming to town. He said, really? everyone screamed yes and he said ok with me. it was a completely awesome night!
