Great vid mate Big fan of Stones on tap, out of a can not so much, and to answer your question The Cannon Brewery was closed in 2000 and has sat derelict to this day all brewing went to Burton on Trent which definitely changed the flavour.

Thank for taking the time to comment, it's always a shame when local brewery's close, one of the best things about this country is that you can, hopefully still, get one or more a brewerys in every county.

Just bought a few cans of this today as it's the first beer I ever had. When I was little my dad used to drink Stones all the time and when I was about 5 or 6 he let me try some, he poured a little bit into my tweenies cup and I tried it and thought it was disgusting like basically any infant who tries beer lol. Back then it was 4.1% I live in Sunderland and didn't know anywhere that sold Stones so ended up ordering from Morrisons through amazon. Have to say I do rather like it, did find it a bit underwhelming at first but that's because I usually drink McEwan's Champion Ale but it definitely grew on me. I do miss the old can design though, I wonder if they still sell it with the old design and logo. You can still get the 4.1% version but its only available in 5L casks so definitely need to try that, hope it has that extra bit of bitterness.

Don’t know how I feel about the old 5L casks, for the volume they tend not to be such good value, and if there’s a few of you drinking it’s empty before you know it. The very first on I had was DAB lager, helen and I went on a canal boat holiday with some friends, which was like have a private booze cruise, not enough space in the fridge to chill it down properly and when opened, warmed up and was frankly revolting. It’s a pity they don’t produce the stones 4.1 in a tin. Mcewans champion is excellent, fantastic beer and usually available at an unbelievable price, I’m with you there, it’s easily one of my favourite beers. Thanks for taking the time to comment, much appreciated, cheers.

@@ivehadworse7713 I think the reason why you can't get the original in cans is because Trew North Brew Co are the ones who make the original stones for bars. Selling it in cans probably just isn't viable or profitable enough for them which is unfortunate. Just hate the fact that Coors bought it then Basically changed the recipe straight away then sold the original recipe to TNB Co. I'll definitely be getting a cask at some point, while it's a bit pricey that's mainly cos of the size and shipping. For a stones fan it would be a nice treat every now and then.

@@ivehadworse7713 Ordered the 5l Keg! Looks like I got the last one in stock lol, will be delivered today (6th) Also ordered a couple of those old Stones Best Bitter glasses and a coaster lol. Definitely quite expensive but you do save a little on shipping if you buy 3 kegs.

I was raised on stones bitter … when it was brewed at the cannon brewery in Sheffield , then bass bought them and the beer went downhill…the brewery building is still standing but in a derelict condition…very sad end to a once fantastic beer.

It’s a shame that so many good tradition beers are ruined either by dropping the abv, for tax reasons, or by moving location. I’m a firm believer that water, the biggest ingredient is the key, you can try and replicate the natural salts and subtle differences in hardness and mineral content, but anyone who’s moved house and tried to brew a cup will tell you there’s a difference in water. That said, this was drinkable and okay, just wish I could go back and try it in its heyday.

Most of ex industrial Sheffield seems run down, derelict & crime ridden these days; I read it's come home to Sheffield and is being brewed by True North Brewing Company.

@@danielsellers8707 most of the ex industrial areas have gentrified and become the ‘trendy’ places for food and drink eg neepsend, kelham island, abbeydale road, heeley/chesterfield road, Sharrow vale. Your right the head brewer at true north replicated the original 1960s cask recipe and sells it n cask in the 11 true north pubs. Strangely when he did this they removed all stones cans from the shelves in supermarkets which used to taste awful and artificial. Then when he released the cask version the cans reappeared and taste 10x better. Think he helped the brewers at coors on how to get this famous brew right.

Like all thing bought by macro, the cannon brewery was sold off and left derelict. This is now brewed in Burton with everything else Molson Coors brew for the UK market.

Never had Stones. My personal retro beer would be Younger's Tartan. Was sold in a lot of the clubs I frequented back in the very early pre-CAMRA 70s. Don't remember it tasting of much at all!

All these beers are rooted in a different era, design for a session. A million miles away from beers of the modern era.
