This is a video I put together from a walk along the old A96, just outside Inverness, to the Stoneyfield Toll House ruin.
In September 1827 the Commission for Highland Roads and Bridges introduced Toll gates on all main routes South of Inverness, seven in total. These Buildings functioned to raising money for the upkeep of roads, from the late 1820s until the 1860s.
At the end of the video I have included a drawing of Stoneyfield Old Toll House by Pierre Delavault (published in 1903) to show how the building looked back in the day.
