Inverness is underrated. Well, it WAS by us. Not anymore. Join us on the morning after the night before for a refreshing walk sandwiched between one of the best breakfasts we've ever had and a hearty pub lunch. Will we feel any better by the end of it? Only one way to find out, enjoy the video...

I don’t pretend to be a travel expert, but I love what I do and would be honoured if you came along with me. My channel focusses on the wide-eyed wonder and excitement of finding somewhere new, and my genuine reaction to it. You may not get a history lesson in my videos, but who knows, you might pick up some useful travel tips along the way, add a few destinations to your bucket list and hopefully be entertained by what you see. Thanks for watching, it means a lot to me :)
I do ALL of this myself. Planning, filming, editing, promoting, all with a weekly upload schedule, so please understand not every video will be an epic adventure. But my pledge is to always do my best in any situation and KEEP THE CAMERA ROLLING :)

FAQs:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up (in which case, likely to be Tuesday at 5pm)
WHY IS THERE A DELAY BETWEEN TRIP AND VIDEO APPEARING?
This is both my business model and a result of doing everything myself. Editing takes time and I also like to schedule videos a bit in advance in case of any problems/illness/cancellations etc. Keeping my uploads appearing every Saturday is important to me, so I don’t want anything to get in the way of it. Also, I occasionally need some time off to recover from trips! But more than anything else, it's about budgets. I generally need to film a number of videos on each trip to break even. And each one of these take a while to fall into place on a Saturday morning.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc. I also have a DJI Pocket 3 (bigger sensor) for nighttime, although I’m still getting to grips with it.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotel prices especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman. Also my weekly upload schedule means I need to keep on the move.
WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature whenever possible, but she has her own life and a proper job so it can take a while for our schedules to match up. Trust me though, I prefer it when She is there too!
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.
WHY THE ADS?
It's my income, I can't do this for free. Notice I don’t have mid-roll ads though!
CAN I CONTACT YOU?
I used to list my email address but felt bad not having the capacity to respond to everything so took it down (and I got a LOT of spam so missed many genuine messages along the way).
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?
Watching my videos is of course support enough, but if you'd like to support further, I'll pop links in here for Paypal and Patreon. All kind donations are super-appreciated and will go 100% towards future filming trips.
DO YOU ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS?
I don't like to upset the flow of my videos, so I don't even include mid-roll ads anymore (at significant loss of income to myself), so I prefer not to include sponsorships either. I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for KZbin Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.

Go for a pub crawl in Inverness! 🤗 Of course not! But: I was working as delivery driver for a medical supplies distributor here in the Cologne-Bonn area. Among my customers were many families with members who were terminally ill. With some, I had the opportunity to have a word in four eyes and would always tell them that, when the inevitable had happened, they should go on a vacation. Just to break up their daily habits and expectations. The ones I met again later confirmed that was a good thing to do. There's one much overlooked very benign if not sobering fact to coping with the loss of a loved one: Much of the coping is getting used to the new situation. A break from the stream of daily routines and sights is a great help there, and a holiday is a great break. How I know? Last survivor of a family here. Done my share of grieving. You win no points for days spent in grief, you deserve a good time and you know your hubby would have said that, too. So do something to help yourself make things easier and brighter for you! All the bestest to you! 🤗

oh my gosh! just like your last video you've taken me back nearly 50 years. working as an auditor, my colleague (stephen Higgins) and i started to walk through the islands one evening. we followed the canal towpath until we actually reached the end- the entrance to Loch Ness! with a carrier bag of beer each we stayed all night, wearing suit and tie. not bad for a couple of Manchester lads, we lit a campfire (no tent) and told drunken stories till the sun came up. Maybe 1974. unforgettable.☺☺☺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

My first visit to Inverness was July 1976. I was with a female friend (not girlfriend) and we were doing a week's railway tour of Scotland. We arrived by train at 10.30am. We couldn't go anywhere till a train to Wick/Thurso at 6am the next morning. We only had a tent to sleep in (never ever again). The problem was that you couldn't get alcohol on a Sunday in Scotland in those days unless you were staying in a licensed hotel and we couldn't afford that. It was a very long day..... That day clouded my impression of Inverness for many years but luckily I have been back since and I love the place.

That brought back some fond memories. Bought a brand new home there (well picked the land plot and standard house design) in 1998 on the hill above the exit of the canal called Scorguie. The castle in my day was the police station. The building off front your hotel on the left was just built and was a large Templeton's supermarket. I bought my kilt to left your hotel across the road and about 5 shops down on the south bank. Later in life 1987 I loaded my small 27 foot motor cruiser into the canal and made my way past Fort William and out into the Clyde. Fond memories. Maybe not of the late night trips to station for my weekly commute to Edinburgh. Mind you the dining car back to Inverness was very nice.

It is so friendly too, even just walking into town people will always say good morning or hello. It still has the small town feel. Ness Islands is fabulous all year round. They even have the trees lit up at night time, and at Halloween the islands is all set up with special effects, actors etc. in the summer it’s a nice place to cool down in the shade of the giant trees, in the autumn the leaves are stunning..

The city only has a population of about 50,000 and is largely only a tourist stopping-off point because it is the only sizeable conurbation in the Highlands and Islands. I reckon your walk encompassed most of what Inverness has to offer. The only places you didn't visit that come to mind are the Botanic Gardens (perhaps not at their greatest in April but they are free), Leaky's second-hand bookshop and Inverness Museum and Art Gallery. Obviously the scenery in the surrounding area is magnificent and Inverness provides a base for day trips to such places as the Cairngorms, Culloden, the Black Isle, Kyle of Lochalsh and Glen Affric.

We did the first part along the river. Fabulous walk you went on next to the canal. Will certainly do that next time. BTW it’s a 2.5 hour train ride to Plockton where Hamish Macbeth was filmed. We got the first train out of Inverness and had a couple of hours there. Fabulous. It was the most glorious day with clear blue skies and wonderful views. Next time for you maybe.

It's a shame to see that fantastic model of the Titanic just rot away. It would be fantastic if someone connected with the Titanic Museum, or anyone with a bit of money could see this video, rescue the model and restore it. A fitting tribute to the guy who obviously spent so much time and care building it.

I'd hesitate to say it's beautiful but some of streets in the centre have quite fine architecture. It does use the river quite well.

Fantastic video 👍 An enjoyable walk plenty of civic pride compared with your walk round run down Bonnybridge well done Highland Councils. 10/10 for the Guest House you needed that breakfast after getting layered up the night before.

Caley Cruises are very good. Did a long weekend in one of their cruisers last year, very enjoyable. Slow pace of life, lots of places to stop, admire the view, have a drink/eat. We made it as far as Laggan Locks before turning back. Eagle Barge is worth a visit at Laggan Locks, good beer, good food, good company.

Really good video. If you have a chance, take another walk through that interesting mall with all those stores someday. Nice to see that sunshine. The windy weather added to the video also. Greetings from British Columbia, Canada.

Cheapest price I could find online for 7 nights to go full length of the Caledonian canal was £1058 which is pretty good considering it can accommodate up to five people all the best to you both, mark
