We're at Stony Hill just west of The Wheatfield as Kris White shares some stories about the 140th Pennsylvania from his hometown of Pittsburgh. #GettysburgTour
Kris White and Evan Portman of the American Battlefield Trust on the call.
This piece is part of our coverage of the 159th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. You can find all of the videos here: • 159th Anniversary of G...
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

Such a sad story about Col. Roberts. He seems like such a good Dad and good man who really loved his daughter. Thanks Chris for remembering him.

I wasn't familiar with the 140th PA Infantry, so watching this was all new information to me. When Kris talked about Col. Roberts writing to his last remaining 10 year old daughter after his wife and other two daughters had died I said to myself, "Please don't say that he died." Unfortunately that was the case, but it was uplifting to hear how the regiment embraced the daughter.

Thanks for sharing your familial connections to this battle and the 140th Pa., Kris. Your insightful additions to any video are always special. And Evan, I could watch and listen to you indefinitely. I hope we will be seeing a lot more of you in future videos! Thank you both, for helping to tell the history of Gettysburg-and the story of our country. 👍

Isn't this area also called The Loop. Why is it called that and is that a name from the battle or does it predate or post date it?

I’m trying, but the gettis burg thing is really annoying. Whether it is the proper pronunciation or not, I have NEVER heard anyone, including renowned historians, park rangers, locals, etc. pronounce it that way. There is a pretentiousness to his insistence on pronouncing it that way. In any event, you guys do fantastic work and I have really enjoyed the content lately. Bravo!
