The Trostle Farm has become a Gettysburg Landmark due to its brick facade and visible cannon ball hole from the battle. Today we discuss what happened there on July 2, 1863. #GettysburgTour
Garry Adelman is the Chief Historian at the American Battlefield Trust and Doug Douds, Col USMC Ret. is a Licensed Battlefield Guide.
This piece is part of our coverage of the 159th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. You can find all of the videos here: • 159th Anniversary of G...
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

What a fantastic piece! Col Doug tells a fascinating story of such heroism! Thanks also for highlighting the plight of those that had no say in being there, the horses, such carnage and death caused to these unsung heroes. Seeing the photo of them laying there dead at the very spot that you were standing brings a tear to my eyes! This is a place on the battlefield that I must visit!

Like a secondary aspect to today’s presentation (aside from the emphasis on the soldiers and their unit designations). We are seeing parts of the battlefield that aren’t commonly seen in the majority of all Gettysburg vids. For those of us that don’t frequent this battlefield, we are seeing views of the ground that seem to be dismissed as unimportant, or not interesting. Not so. Would much rather see the Trostle Farm, or the actual Stoney Hill, than a collection of monuments.

The 20th Indiana & 86th New York must be chopped liver. They had a slug fest with Robertson’s Arkansas and Anderson’s Georgians for over an hour on Houck’s Ridge. Ammunition ran low and flank open, they finally had to retire. Ward’s boys get no respect on July 2nd.
