No one mentions the extraordinary cost and lack of insurance coverage of these newer blood thinners, as if this would have no effect on quality of life for many of us.

My cardiologists want me to hold off on ablation with my diagnosed mitral valve-induced AFIB and continue with flecainide to convert back to normal sinus rhythm. But I know this treatment cannot last long before the valve needs to be fixed and ablation performed. This treatment cannot last long because I'm taking flecainide more and more frequently. I think my smartwatch does a good job at detecting AFIB, where an elevated heart rate AND high heart rate variability are shown when I am at rest.

It is interesting to hear about the improvements over the last 10 years. I had my ablation a little over 10 years ago. I will certainly be asking my EP about these improvements because it is not unlikely I will need to undergo a second ablation procedure.

I've had one a year and a half ago, worked perfectly, then I went on a bender, I'm sure mine was cause by alot of alcohol. Now I need another ablation, not drinking ever again. I did have minor sleep apnea but I had a sinus surgery for that, then 2 months later I drank alot of alcohol, my doctor said could be sleep apnea or alcohol, so I'm sure mine was alcohol now

Early derection is crucial. So Kardia like devises should be owned by the older folks as a standard thing since so many don't show symptoms. It would have made a difference in my case.

I've Afib for 2 years, two mild strokes in 2 years despite Eliquis 5. CABGx4 in 2001at age 53. Body mass 31. Had Amplazter Amulet installed 2 /8/2024. TEE follow up 3/28/2024. Afib resting range 62-57. Would the new "hybrid ablation" be benificial for me?

I have Afib for which I take a daily edoxoban blood thinner tablet, however it was discovered by accident ten years ago when I moved to a new district and medical centre. My pulse (which has never changed in that ten years and I have no idea how long I had it before we moved) at rest only varies between 70 and 65 ppmin max i am now 93 ,very fit and still driving. The only reason I take the tablets is to ward off the possibiliyi of a stroke. I am more concerned these days about how I go ,not when and a stroke is not my first choice.

afib is progressive, so eventually the cardioversion will not last very long. my history is 1st cardioversion lasted 2 years, 2nd 1 week, 3rd four days.

That depends a little bit on what your normal heart rate is. I would suggest that two times your normal heart rate is healthy, three times gets a bit more iffy and four times is certainly too high. I am not a doctor.

I was diagnosed with Afib 6 years ago after having an attack whilst riding my bike. I was prescribed Flecainide and Xeralto for a anticoag. I gave up cycling then after a year I started running. I joined a running club and compete in road races, cross country and Fell races. Don't let it stop you! I am 76 years old.

Just saw this. So a little late comment... Ablation, ablation, ablation. Why even talk about anything else. That's all they want to push. Easy money. The stats these dr's are talking about aren't reflected in the medical literature.. 65% success rate at best. 1-2 % mortality rate. My mom had one and woke up in the IC unit a day later after a botched ablation. Burnt a hole in her heart and had to have emergency open heart surgery. I've had 7 electro cardioversions and am trying to avoid ablation like the plague.

My aunt awoke unable to move her arms... they had to treat her for that too. I still don't understand what happened. They say she was on the table so long for the ablation that they 'nicked' her spinal cord because of the position her head was in
