Yes, Dan, the lab tests for Campylobacter in each stool specimen. They also test for Salmonella, Shigella, E. coli 0157 and Shiga toxin.

The Zofran mouse pad is a nice touch, while talking about all these organisms that can make you sick to the stomach :-)

I love your whole series of videos, markmicrobiology (& friends!). They are so informative, yet so "brief", that they really help study, and bear repeated watching very well. Thank you. Question on this particular video: When do "you guys" use the Campy plates? Every incoming stool specimen?

is E.coli o157h7 , lactose non fermenter and it is pathogeic? is E.coli o157h7 one of the member enterobacteriaceae?
@markmicrobiology6 жыл бұрын
E. coli 0157H7 is indeed a member of the enterobacteriaceae, it is pathogenic and ferments lactose. However it does not ferment sorbitol well like the other E. coli, and can therefore be differentiated on Sorbitol-MacConkey agar (lactose is replaced by sorbitol).

is E.coli 0157H7 does not ferment sorbital and it is coloress colony? is e.coli 0157H7 prdoucing shiga toxin by serotype method?
@markmicrobiology6 жыл бұрын
0157H7 is colorless on Sorbitol-MacConkey agar. It produces shiga-like toxin via a bacteriophage. Shigella produces shiga-toxin from a defective bacteriophage that is chromosomal.
