Your story reminds me of my friends big brother Winston. He was the biggest kid we knew and he took care of us. Twenty years later I was walking down the street and I heard someone call my name and this 5 foot five bloke walked up to me smiling. It was Winston, the biggest baddest good kid that I had told stories of to all my friends. What a shock, I was expecting him to be at least seven feet tall.

@HarryHeck2020
@HarryHeck2020 5 жыл бұрын
Are you kidding? Bullies do want confrontation. That is so weird you would say that. It's like the exact opposite of what bullies want. What bullies don't want is to get their asses kicked, they don't want a fight that ends in a draw. That's why they start shit with people they think they can beat. Beating on or berating a submissive person in public is the goal to establish dominance. You really don't understand psychology at all. Listen there is always someone bigger and badder out there. The bully is looking for a sure win. They are looking for pacifism and fear to overwhelm in a show of force. Just don't give them that fear, don't give them peace until you both want it. So what, you have a fight and you loose. That is much better than being afraid and tortured. You try your best to get your licks in. You do your best every time. Every time they touch you, you fight. fight. fight. Drill that in your head. You are in a fight for your life. Value yourself and fight! Right then and there. If you are being bullied, get ready for a fight, walk tall, stand up like a restrained beast, squint your eyes and clench your jaw. Lock on to their eyes and do your best to burn fear into their heart with your anger and energy. Build stable tension in your muscles and shift your weight to your toes. Let your adrenaline flow but look as if you are focusing it. Do something like set your books down and face them (stand your ground). Draw that line. If they cross it let loose all that tension into them. More often than not they will brush it off as 'not worth it'. All of this lets them know that this person is not submitting to my overwhelming attack. They may step in for a shove but if you have that tension in the ground, a slight twist at the point of contact keeps you anchored and their hands slide by. That sends a message of this guy is holding back something I don't want. Start to drill into yourself a mindset that the line they cross is physical contact. And let them know that physical contact with you will result in a fight every time. Never try to get out of it, never let them talk you into going into their turf for a fight later, it is always a fight right there. The middle of class, the playground, the school bus. You both get in trouble yes but you take a stand. You let them know, you may beat me but I am not an easy win. And stand with others who don't know this. Boys would fight girls if everybody anywhere didn't stand up for them. You need to stand up for yourself and others.

I was bullied as a kid and what made it stop was just standing up for myself. No martial arts and no fancy complicated techniques. Bullies want one thing, a sense of power and superiority to compensate for whatever failings they may feel about themselves. They do NOT want to be challenged. They don't want to work for that sense of satisfaction so the moment you show they'll have to work for it, they'll move on. Just fight back hard.

You were better off not knowing this stuff. All this "self defense technique" stuff is just that: stuff. It works great against another guy in your self-defense class, but it never works against somebody who's actually trying to hurt you...that is, unless you've been training with it for years, AND have entered plenty of real fighting tournaments. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely NOT claiming that fighting tournaments fully prepare you for a street fight because they have strict rules, not to mention a break between rounds. There are no rules or breaks in a real fight. That means that anything can happen. Your attacker might gouge out your eyes, crush your windpipe, kick you in the sack, grab a handful of your hair and smash your face repeatedly with...well, whatever he can get ahold of. A rock, maybe. If you're in a restaurant or diner he might grab the sugar container and go to town on your face. I saw one guy grab the receiver of this Italian restaurant's phone and beat the hell out of this other guy's face before three waiters could pull him off. Self defense classes teach people how to try to do something that'll just piss most attackers off enough to lose their minds and punish their victims. If one wants to best an attacker on the street, the only thing sure to work is the attacker's own techniques: anything goes, and if you're gonna go, get going first and don't give them any chance to go on you.

@@jamesthe-doctor8981 Sorry I do not agree with you James. I used to get bullied at school because I was physically small, lacked strength and had no confidence and that made me secretly take up self defense. Too many people get sucker punched because they don't know how to block or even see what's coming. My knowledge, though not tournament level by any means, has given me the confidence and skills to effectively step in and deal with people hassling me AND other people on a number of occasions. However i do concur that some people are really out to hurt and injure and they are good at it. Awareness, self-confidence and avoidance is the key but if need be, GOOD, well practiced self-defense skills are good to have.

Yes at one time or another we're bullied as a young boy in the Bronx I was often a target however my grandfather an old-world German told me if I did nothing to them he will do something to me yes I was afraid of grandpa from that point I knew I must stand up and make my shadow count even as a smaller opponent to most of whom I had to face off with it's a fact you do earn the respect I had no older brother just a younger sister one day I won my first fight with a bully came home bruised clothes ripped grandpas proud he then took me and my sister out for ice cream his little boy is now a man it's not all ways important to strike first but is important to strike hard and fast if at all possible one more very important thing there are no winners to any fight One should all ways try to calmly deescalate we're ever possible if diplomacy fails then the last is to defend and self-preservation the rights of all humans and animals alike Try not be in a fight first then try to end a fight if forced

I am a fan of your videos, AikidoFlow, but I must take exception to the lesson you are teaching with your anti-bullying video. The defender’s responsibility in Aikido is to neutralize an attack without unduly harming the attacker. We take the attitude that anyone who attacks you is unbalanced, ethically, emotionally, mentally or otherwise. I would argue that bullies are people who have been bullied and who have internalized violence as a way of maintaining their self-image. Thus, they are unbalanced. It should be sufficient to immobilize them until they regain their balance. Once the initial defence has dropped the attacker to the ground, then there are multiple techniques to turn him onto his stomach and totally immobilize him. No need to inflict damage to his face, etc. Most bullies are victims of past aggression, and taking out your own aggressions on them doesn’t make the world any better. Remember that O Sensei created Aikido as a way to resolve conflicts, not to make them worse. All the best! Mike Clair, Godan, Newfoundland, 40 years’ Aikido experience.

Really good stuff. You make Aikido more direct which is what you need on the street. Just out of interest how do you feel about Rokas and his Martial Arts Journey Channel as he turned his back on Aikido after many years training and then teaching because he felt it was ineffective in a street fight and because most schools don't really pressure test the forms. So he decided to take up MMA and found that to be far more direct and effective. It's interesting as you seem to be making Aikido work.

Kinda difficult to justify breaking someone's wrist as "self defence" in a court of law when by your own admission, the guy was sitting down at the time. Just how much of a threat to you could he have been with his arse sat in a chair? And as if you haven't dug yourself a deep enough hole already, you damn yourself further by proclaiming that "words is less stronger then action". You're clearly young stupid and inclined to violence so I suggest you reflect on where that path takes you in life and commend to you the path of education, wit and hard work as an alternative.

Another thing which might work as an alternative, more on a psychological level than anything else. If someone pushes you or comes towards you to try to intimidate you, try to stand your ground and look confident rather than be intimidated and pushed back by them. I know it's not easy, of course, it isn't but doesn't someone who just stands their ground and doesn't look bothered appear scarier than someone who retreats when approached? Even if they are bigger than you, I can almost guarantee, that if you stand there and look fearless, that will get them thinking twice. Standing your ground sends a message that you are actually not afraid. Moving back as someone is pushing you or coming towards you makes you look like you are scared of them and that gives them more confidence but standing your ground gives them the impression that you're not scared of them and they will lose confidence. You will find that once you stop moving back, they will stop moving forward and you will now be confronting them, eyeball to eyeball, looking like an equal, two gladiators about to do battle etc, rather than a cat and a mouse situation. The thing about a bullies mentality is that they thrive on your fear of them. That's what would make you as their victim so much fun for them. They sense the fear and they love it and most of the fear of them you have will come through your body language, that's how they know. Once they believe they have lost that over you, you're no longer fun for them and they will find someone else that is afraid of them. One caveat to this though, I will be very honest and say it's possible you might still get a thrashing in that situation because some will be desperate to save face, especially if there are others watching you and them confronting each other and they have a local rep they want to maintain. So that is when the Aikidoflow techniques will probably be more useful but in most cases, once they believe you are no longer afraid of them, that will be the end of the matter in my experience and you won't even have to do anything. So much of any fight is psychological, it's like they say, every battle is won BEFORE it's ever fought. Thanks.

That first technique looks like a good, high probability move in this situation, except that I would recommend that you lift your right shoulder to shield your head from the possible left hook. Do this the way a good boxer does when he throws a jab or a right cross against a quick counter-puncher, shoulder protecting the head. I think that you will also find that this will give substantially more power to your takedown because your body is more into the rotation with the shoulder raised, and it will give your throw more downward power which is where you want your victim to go. Test it out and see. Of course, learn it from both sides, (and, need I say, against fully resisting opponents) because most people are right handed, and if they're going to push you with one hand, it will probably be their left, keeping their right hand cocked for the punch. There are some very good techniques in traditional martial arts, and fighters recognize them quickly, while ankle biters are quick to denigrate.

A friend of mine took down our bully so hard that people in adjacent school districts walked the halls more confident! He was at his locker and saw our bully coming out of the corner of his eye. He took the few pieces of advice he got from his dad and uncle and got the element of surprise. He planted his feet, spun fast and aimed a punch for the back of the bully's head. When the bully dropped, my friend jumped on top of him, straddled him and started raining down punch after punch. Only 1 of 3 hits actually connected _truly_ solid, but that was all it took. After that, everyone knew the big bad bully was vulnerable and he acted accordingly every day after that! It's not lost on me that my friend was a 6', 170 lb. roll playing, 11th grade band geek, but no matter the stats, nerds and geeks across 3 school districts won that day!

All love and props, bro! I've seen also a clip here on KZbin in which an Asian youngster who's being bullied on a transport takes his tormentor down with just THIS same move! It sure looked like the bully probably acquired some bit of whiplash on the way to the floor. I'd prefer to follow up with kicks to the back instead of punches though. Be ever wonderful, bro!

Hey Azu.. I really like your tips. Got to tell you that all of those combinations of arm grabs with knees/throws/hits are part of Hapkido. Please try it.. you would be really good at it.

Completely agree with your sentiment and respect to anyone trying to fight back against bullying and racism. My only criticism is what is the “bully’s” left hand doing in both these techniques? Sure his natural reaction would be to bring it across? I’d probably favour a slip inside the push and quick jab cross to the nose.

The thing is that you have fight experience and have no fear. You are also very relaxt and calm because you have no fear. Your emotions are controlled. How do you accomplish that, to start with? Alway looking to you vid's, but I want to know how you achieve the calmness you have.

Please don't knee someone in the head; especially if you've already gained control of the situation; you can seriously hurt or potentially kill someone and end up with a lot of legal headache (no pun intended) yourself. Aikido is great because it offers a solution to these types of situations without inflicting unnecessary harm to your aggressor. Aikido should be about control not beating the person senseless. O sensei said "To injure an opponent is to injure yourself. To control aggression without inflicting injury is the Art of Peace."

@@UnkaStunka They have already underestimated you. The element of surprise comes not so much from your speed, but from the standpoint that you'll do anything at all to defend yourself. In order to do that first technique without getting a left hook to your head, just do what they teach you in boxing when you throw a punch: keep your shoulder up as you punch. If you're a real fighter, you'll know how to adapt a simple technique like this. . And yes, always have several plan B's if it isn't working, like pulling him in and kicking or kneeing him in the groin, hooking or elbowing his right temple, etc., all in quick succession. Western Boxing is the absolute best for learning footwork to keep you out of trouble and getting yourself into position for a fight ending liver punch or hook to the sweet spot. And practice and spar until you can't get it wrong.

Excellent great job , these bullies need worse than this, bullies think they are a superior race of people, they harass you because they are jealous of you, girls love you they don't love bullies, they hate your skin color, they hate your religion, they hate your nationality, a bully thinks about you 24 hours a day , 7 days a week , when he is shaving he is thinking about you, bullies want you finished because you are better than them, if they dislike you then they should walk away from you and go ahead in their life, I'm a pretty reasonable guy but there is a certain line nobody should cross with me. I will end a fight in case a bully starts the fight. Thanks a billion Azu for these techniques.👍👍👍👍💯

Aikido is great as long as you don't use it to catch or trap a punch,because that's almost impossible,people punch and pull their hand back fast,trained or not,but you can use the wristlocks in a grappling situation for sure

Behave! The likely hood a person being bullied is going to react with fancy moves is very very slim! I'm a bouncer over 15+ yrs with a fighting background from my late father. Even in altercations you do not have time to think to what you know you just react and no bully will push with 1 arm and straight out. Good effort 👍🏼

I won't list them, but that take down only works if the bully leaves his arm out. So this is how to handle a bully who is doing what aikido loves, which are opponents who don't know how to fight.
