My yucky motion is just trying sit or stand up straight to even try the self assessment. Im so discouraged because my doctor didn’t even X-ray, just gave me pain meds and muscle relaxers and sent me on my way and told me it was sciatica and I just have to wait it out 😞

I had very tight hip flexors, thought that stretching and aggressive massage treatment would release the muscles. It did not work in fact, it made them really sore for 3 weeks. With rest, they are just starting to calm down. Trying to educate myself on how muscles work in relation to the body. Many thanks for content.

My yucky movements is the knee to chest on left side and hands to floor. Again My left side that felt tight. Your explanation opened my eyes that I've been figure four side sleeping, sitting straight up at all times because I was told that straight up at all times is good. I had a left hip fracture two and a half years ago that created sciatica. I have L4 and L5 herniated disc, piriformis syndrome, according to chiropractor. He always puts me in a figure four and pressed on it which made me feel worse. Massage did not work. I've been mindful of my movements per your advice by watching your videos but have not been diligent lately and now, I have a hard time putting weight on my left leg when start walking. I push through carefully, sometimes using a cane until it releases. Now I understand about blood flow and oxygen. Please do a video on what exercises I have to do while sitting and getting ready to stand. Thank you Doc Charlie. You are a wonderful and knowledgeable, down to earth, human. BTW, you have a beautiful famiky.😊

This is one of the most intelligent posts on pain that I've heard. It makes much more sense to listen to your body and avoid pain producing motions rather than cause pain because of some dogmatic belief system. The reason certain motions hurt is the body telling the mind to avoid that motion. Pretty simple and obvious when you think about it. This approach also works wonders with other types of pain or aggravations. For example, people will complain about tinnitus for years, but won't bother to look for environmental or diet triggers.

I am currently going to physical therapy. Physical therapy is recommended by my orthopedic surgeon. I do have spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease. I developed pain in my hip, buttock area and could not walk without pain. Got a cortisone shot in my buttock area prior to PT. My pain travels from my back to my hip/buttock area, so no relief from PT or shot. I have found your videos very informative.

Hey Brian- thanks for watching. Not uncommon. May mean that it's not a mechanical problem with the nerve like you think it is... For example... a person who is able to perform a straight leg raise without issues, can be 95% certain the do not have a sciatic nerve issue. That being said, this is fairly common... that there are no clear yucky motions. No worries. No pressure, but would you be open to me reviewing your case to see if/how we can help? Hi Charlie, tell your wife i ❤ you 😂. Seriously, i have pain in right bum, which goes underneath to groin (front passage). Its killing me. I have been ER 2x in the past week. And they have me waiting for an MRI, which can take up to 6 months. 🙄 (UK) I have arthritis in my right hip. Im 38. Love the gym. Last night in the ER whilst waiting i thought, when the chiropractor arrives im going to ask what i shouldn't do. He refused to answer, and told me a website for my sciatica moves. I ask how he knows its sciatica. He couldnt answer. I asked him if i can continue to sleep with my leg bent (like your pic) because it's comfortable, although when i wake im in pain and its locked. He said just stretch it 😂. I lol now but im extremely frustrated and psychologically over this. The more i get frustrated the worse the pain. My yucky is the majority of these. Standing with back bent back is relief. Help me! Your concept is exactly the point i was trying to make to my chiropractor. God bless you!! Im clicking the link!!! 🎉

Correct... avoidance is not the ultimate solution... but the first part of the process. For me what causes excruciating pain is when I let my leg rest. When I turn I need to tighten my abs very hard to make my leg not hang because that will cause a pain shock that startles me. It’s also when I am standing and the moment between moving it causes intens stabbing pain in my buttock like my bones are crushing each other. I don’t know if it is Piriformis syndrome. I always get this after have a ibs flare up and have diarrhea for a prolonged period of time. I feel like it’s caused by the pressure in my pelvis. Once I have it. It can take months or a more then a year. One time I couldn’t move my body because every single movement send a shock through my body that almost made me faint. This lasted a day and a night. I went to the er and they send me back. To this day I still don’t know what it is. Maybe you have an idea? The strange thing. I feel like when I put intens pressure on my hip/ buttock so that my joint doesn’t hang free it stops the pain. Just like when I tighten my abs. The only position that stops the pain immediately is when I lay in Reclining Bound Angle. Do you know what it could be? Thank you!

My yucky is the midway point between sitting and standing. If I stand too fast, I get a sharp pain in mid left butt, and I have to sit down again. Slowly rising, much less chance of it happening. I can then stand ok for a good length of time.

unfortunately just sitting causes a spike in pain, above my glute, to the just right of my spine. uuuugggghhhh. It comes and goes. the movements that triggered pain were seated twist to the right, fig. 4 on the right, the right leg raise - that suprised me!, and the forward bend and twist to the right. Also - getting in and out of my SUV is excrutiating. And just regular sitting. Sometimes I can sit for a minute or 5, but if I start to feel any kind of a twinge, I have to get up immediately. That's what got this going, the other night I working on my laptop, sitting, felt a twinge, ignored it for 2 hours, got up and was in a lot of pain, and NOTHING helped, and I couldn't get comfortable in bed, didn't get any sleep, was up walking and trying to stretch all night long. ES tylenol helps take the pain from sharp to dull. I was able to sleep last night, woke up feeling pretty darn good, until I tried to sit down. ugh. I'm not convinced it's sciatica as the pain is not going down my leg, it sits right above my glute just to the right of my spine.
