We will never get it together because we're too warped in the way of the "white mans world"... I know I'm gonna get flack for saying that! When we we're out there marching for equality we should've been marching for community as well! We wanted equality to do what? Assimilate and become "gentrified" meanwhile our minority counterparts (Asian's Hispanics) whom suffered the same feat of racism can come into this country with their shit together... Why's that? Because they are about COMMUNITY! They know that in this society it's a colour and class system so rather than doing the "yes massa" tap dance they did their own shit and now in every state you have a predominately Asian or predominately Hispanic neighborhood full of civil liberties for that culture... You go into a "black hood" and what do they have... Chicken joint, liquor store, check cashing place and all owned by whites and operated by others... but never truly BLACK... it's high time we get our shit together and maybe, just maybe we wont be at the bottom of the totem pole no more!

I grew up in east flatbush and still have family there. I've noticed the police presence feels like and occupation. They have portable police towers which are like prison guard towers. Police will park their cars on consecutive blocks with their flashing lights on but no cops inside. It's dehumanizing for the entire community and it seems they want to instill fear of police, which I'm sure will have a negative effect as far as their interaction with the people.

im from the same neighborhood and its not a being a young african american thing because im from pakistan and i have been stopped more than 20 times just this summer thats without counting the last 3 or 4 years. these videos need to send a greater message than just from the african american community because there all a million different kind of people that live here, it is by far the most diverse neighborhood i have ever been to in all my life travels around this great city and around the world

It is diverse. It has many immigrants from the Caribbean. A lot of Haitians, Jamaicans, Trinidadians, Bajans Guyanese, Grenadians and others form smaller islands. It also has a sizable African American population. It's religiously diverse too with many Catholics, Anglicans, and other Protestant groups.

As a white guy, I've had my fair share of police harrassment when I was a punk. Yeah cops should set an example. Why not start first with being change in the community that cops don't have to be douches? Imagine your same neighborhood where everyone gets along and crime is almost non-existent. Do you still think the majority of police there would need to instill that fear? Looking around the rest of the country... Probably NO.
@baddadanu
@baddadanu 11 жыл бұрын
And this is where your racism becomes evident. Equating YOUR life as a young PUNK to these young people who are simply young people living their lives. YOU were a punk. That's your business. The automatic assumption that these kids ARE... is what fuels the problem. The automatic assumption that cops instilling fear stems from a NEED to do so... is what fuels the problem. Your candor is appreciated. Your prejudices aren't.

You are correct, stop and frisk is unconstitutional. As you say in your video, which was very nicely put, police officers should get to know you. I have a question though. How do they know the bangers from the good kids. And, is it possible that be using this unconstitutional practice, some of your friends are alive today? Is this making NY safer? Check out the murder rate in Chicago where they don't stop and frisk.

IT is unfortunate we live in bad neighborhoods. Being black is not the reason we get stopped. Living in such neighborhoods is the cause. High crime rates. As Caucasian, living in a low income neighborhood of Boston, was stopped a LOT more than seven times, in ONE year & that was in the 40's.... Get out when you can, though I never finished HS, joined the army at 16, and got out. Finished HS in the Army. You can get a college education, FREE just by STUDYING books, and take CLEP exam .

Unfortunately, getting to know the citizenry you police doesn't contribute to the revenue-generating machine, which policing has been for a VERY LONG TIME. So police will remain corupt. Don't expect a thing to change, until the concept of what actually funds the police changes. Defend your rights whenever possible.
@Kingair315
@Kingair315 11 жыл бұрын
Revenue generated by Police, helps pay for policing the community. If they generated nothing, our taxes would be much higher. Why shouldn't those who commit crime, pay for the arrest and conviction of their actions? That also includes things like traffic tickets, if you obey the law, you do not pay. Ive been driving since 1942 and never received a ticket, though Ive been stopped for various reasons.

Check out this video on KZbin: Stop and Frisk is out if control.. Stop and Frisk Criminals not kids. Cops need to know the neighborhood they work in.. Be courteous to the community. Hello, Good morning or Good evening is always a welcoming greeting.. Being a cop makes you a protector of a community not a hater of a community.. You can smile, you are part othe community even if at the end if the day you rest your head far away.

I feel like the point of this video went over a chunk of peoples head. (mainly because they probably can't relate) But if you are the stereotype of suspicious, basically cops go after you. On top of that, because cops deem you as suspicious, and you do need help, why ask for help through people who install fear? Watch the Stanford Prison Expirement if you don't think "righteous" power goes into cop's heads.

At very least, police sd stop&frisk with 'courtesy, professionalism, & respect'. There is no excuse for throwing people's stuff on the ground, pushing them around, being aggressive and abusive, and acting like uncouth, ignorant thugs. It is understandable that people being searched feel humiliated and angry, and police had better learn to deal with that reaction in a reasonable manner instead of exacerbating the experience. Police need better training. Idiot-bullies on power trips sd be fired.

I don't think it's fair to call him a hypocrite simply because he feels the need to speak about his bad experiences. I wouldn't call being stopped seven times "a few" either. Besides, for all we know, all the cops in his area could be bad. He's just trying to make people realize how innocent students like him are being victimized every day and losing faith in authority figures because of this dumb policy.

SL4VE0WNER1904619 He's skeptical of them because of his experience. It's different. If you go to 10 doctors and 4 of the ten mishandled you, overcharged you and harassed you, the completely opposite of what a doctor takes oath to do, you will automatically be skeptical of the 11th doctor he sees. Hes not saying they're all bad but his experience with a cop shouldve never gone down as it did because of what they were sworn to do.Then also, you don't know of his experience with the police on a whole. Those may have been his only interactions directly with them.

Then start making videos showing Pakistanis facing the same harm. That won't hurt the cause it'll help it. White people rarely act when its injustice happening to blacks. Let's start showing the white faces harmed by Occupy Wall Street, and the Muslims harmed by the war on terror and unite against this oppression. Don't start trying to demean the African Americans for pointing out what you yourself consider widespread oppression and unconstitutional over reach by the NYPD.
