I am also facing the same issue as Jasmine except for the thing I actually married the man, how foolish of me to do so. Till now he offers me zero amount of time. I was begging for his time for his love and affection. I openly expressed my feelings many times, but I don't think he listened. Nothing changed. He always prioritizes others or other things over me. Just now I realize how shameless I am to do so. You can't ever demand someone's love and time. I have lost my dignity and self respect by doing so. I don't think a man in his 40s who is having an affair will stop if confronted by his teenage daughter. It's a very sad situation. He may feel guilty but become cleverer about hiding it. Prachi, your advice for the mom is good. The only danger here is that this lady is emotionally vulnerable because she knows her husband has had an affair. I hope she does not have an affair to assuage her own hurt heart or vanity. In one's 40s one is less idealistic than in one's youth. For lavender and her sister, I can only say don't spiral out of control bcoz your parents don't have a good marriage and you know about it. Understand this, that a lot of parents around you have affairs, but keep it hidden, simply bcoz having affairs after 15 or 20 years of marriage sometimes give middle-aged people a kick, a high. They may love and trust their spouses as a habit but get a zing from the affair. And affairs are very easy to conduct these days with smartphones and social media. What you have to do is focus on your lives...studies, extracurricular activities and building a career. And don't think of your dad as a bad guy. Chances are, he is stressed and feeling guilty, but also needs this other woman in some way. Whatever it is, he is your dad and if he loves you both, love him too. Don't be mean to him. Be close to your mom, as Prachi said, but don't be mean towards your dad if he is a good dad. A lot of monogamous husbands are monogamous only bcoz they have hidden their affairs better. when you grow up, you will know. Your dad, poor man, got caught. I think your advice for the second case is way too vague.. you are mostly justifying an extra marital affair..why any support or anything please.. you gave all these advise without checking the financial status of her mother..if she is sound, it's better to leave such as man, who can give false promises to his family and continue with his affairs.. plus don't think the girls are that young..in about 3-5 years they will be more independent and can take care of their mother easily.. one should think of long term here.. forgiving and bearing with such a father is of no use and eventually won't give anything.. plus this makes girls more stronger in long run having seen their mother take stand against ill treatment..it's totally my perspective but I think moving out of this relationship is good for the mother and girls in the long run..

Its easy to type that in the comment section of a youtube video, but In real life its extremely difficult. If her mother was stable and financially indipendent, she would have left the dad the first time. She must have had something that stopped her from doing so. In this situation, its sad to say but the girls cant do anything. Its the mother's choice to leave her husband. The only thing kids can do is give them emotional support, and focus on their careers. Also a father's presence is very important in children's lives, i know you believe that now that he has an affair, he is totally usless but you are totally forgetting that how he is in his married life has nothing to do with how good of a father he might be. These are two different things. These kids are 17, they cant understand this complexity and reading your comment they also might think about leaving the father and will pressurize their mom to do so, but being a single mom of two teen girls is not easy. Finances of the household, the college fees etc requires savings of a lifetime that parents do for their children, for her mother to manage this alone is extremely hard. About self harm, the mother needs help, she would need therepy if she indulges into it. The children should not interfere in this at all, it could be dangerous for the mom and them as well. They should Tell any adult, any relatives that is close to mom to seek the right help.

I agree it's easier said than done and again it's totally my own perspective given I have seen women in my own life, who weren't even well educated and financial stable, taken stand for themselves and their kids, in their case kids were even much younger..it took many years but now she is financially stable and much happier and at peace .. my point is to not let this matter settle in so easily as it will certainly impact the girls in the long run.. people bought up in such environment end up having deep physiological issues..it's also important for mother to take guidance from the support system, an extended family, a close friend, or maybe a lawyer of the possibilities..who knows if the father sees his family getting away from him he might genuinely change.. currently it doesn't look like he actually respect his family and take them for granted, that's why he is still continuing with relationship outside marriage even after promising..I don't know what the outcome will be nor I am any preacher but I do strongly feel to confront the situation and take appropriate steps than brushing under the carpet as that will not help.. taking stand for things is very important for women.
