What's the Best and Worst Olive Oil
Determining the "best" and "worst" olive oil can be subjective and depends on individual preferences, as well as factors such as the quality of the olives used, the production methods, and personal taste. However, generally speaking:
Best Olive Oil:
Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is often considered the highest quality olive oil. It's made from the first pressing of olives, without the use of heat or chemicals, resulting in a superior taste, aroma, and nutritional profile.
Look for EVOO that is labeled as cold-pressed or cold-extracted, indicating that no heat was used during the extraction process.
The best olive oils often come from reputable producers who prioritize quality and sustainability.
Worst Olive Oil:
The worst olive oil is typically one that has been heavily processed, diluted, or adulterated with other oils.
Lower-quality olive oils, labeled simply as "olive oil" or "pure olive oil," may undergo processes like refining and blending, which can strip away flavors and nutrients.
Additionally, olive oils that are old or improperly stored may have gone rancid, resulting in an unpleasant taste and aroma.
Ultimately, the best olive oil is one that suits your taste preferences and meets your quality standards. It's important to look for reputable brands, check labeling for terms like "extra virgin," and consider factors such as where the olives were grown and how the oil was produced.
When buying olive oil, consider these tips to help you select the best quality product:
Look for Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO): Extra virgin olive oil is considered the highest quality and is extracted from the first pressing of olives without the use of heat or chemicals. It retains more of the natural flavors and nutrients compared to other grades of olive oil.
Check the Label: Look for key terms like "extra virgin," "cold-pressed," or "cold-extracted." These indicate that the oil was produced without the use of high heat, which can degrade the oil's quality. Also, ensure that the label specifies the region where the olives were grown.
Packaging: Olive oil is sensitive to light and heat, which can cause it to degrade faster. Choose olive oil that comes in a dark glass bottle or tin to protect it from light exposure. Avoid plastic containers, as they can affect the oil's flavor over time.
Harvest Date: Check for the harvest date on the label. Fresher olive oil tends to have a better flavor and higher nutritional value. Aim to purchase olive oil that is from the most recent harvest, ideally within the past year.

You can make healthy chocolate in minutes with coconut oil, cocao and honey. Add whatever you like such as dried fruit or whatever you like. Put in molds or drop on wax or parchment paper. Refrigerate until it hardens. It will melt fast if 78 degrees or more. I even leave it more liquid and dip fresh fruit into it.

Praying is a waste of time. Ask Africans why they are the most praying people & the poorest on earth. Africans were praying during slavery. Maybe God is racist. Why would the enslavers teach the enslaved how to pray if praying works? Yet, the enslavers hide the farming tools from the enslaved. That is why in USA we are not that religious because we know the truth deep down. It all BS to control & keep people down.

@@uncareid5557 Thanks for your reply. Here in Australia, the olive oils we can buy in our supermarkets or boutique deli's are sourced primarily from Australia, Italy, Spain, Greece. I've never come across any Californian oils anywhere here . How to tell when the olives have been harvested? All but impossible! I looked at my bottles at home today. Best I could see was 2023. No month, just last year. Some brands and varieties don't even show this. Merely a use by date. How old? Who knows... At farmers markets or shows you can get local varieties which will tell you what you want to know. However, these locals are generally at a premium $$$$ above what you'll pay for in your supermarkets here . So as a consumer here, most of the time you don't really know what you're actually buying .

Aussie girl here,I've been using Olive Oil for over 30 years now, and wont use anything else. for a long time I've been buying a brand that comes from a farm in the state of South Australia where I live. they grow all their own Olives, then pick, and first cold press and bottle the oil all on their farm. its the best Extra virgin Olive Oil I've used. another tip for anyone who wants to check their Olive oil is genuine , and not mixed with other oils, is to pop your bottle of Oil in the fridge overnight. then take it out in the morning. if it hasnt gone all thick and gluggy, then you have a fake Olive Oil, or one thats been processed more that a good quality first cold pressed one. a really good Olive Oil will thicken and you wont be able to pour it until it reaches room temperature.

I do not trust any oils from California. I've tested them by putting a little in a plastic cup and then putting that in the frig for a few days. If it doesn't start to turn a slushy solid texture...then it is fake Olive oil. The ones I did this with from California all failed. The ones from Italy all passed. Fake oils will remain oily after a few days in the frig. This is a great way to test Olive Oils but some on youtube try to call this test a myth. Think about how much money they'll lose if everyone finds out about how to do this simple test! The test actually works extremely well. Others have done it on KZbin and shown how many Olive oils are fake.

The fridge test (pure olive oil will solidify at fridge temperatures) is not fool-proof but is an additional test that you may want to try.

That is one of the best ways to test it. thats what I was taught. the brand I buy is all single origin from one farm where they grow, harvest and first cold press their oil all on the farm, in South Australia where I live, so it doesnt leave their property from start to finish until its bottled and shipped out. expensive at $19 for a 700ml bottle but its so worth it for the flavour and how good it is.

Interestingly the fridge test is not dependable.. I can tell you I tested many brands of EVOO including organic pure. Found none that solidified in 24 hours or even 3 days so I gave up on those tests I follow by the taste .When I drink it a bit and it gives me a little burn sensation in my throat It seems to be the one I like. Does any other seed oils give the same sensation?

I lived in Greece for four years in the 80s and I fell in love with the food and the olive oil there was great and the beautiful big olives. What was strange is I found out that I am allergic to the Olive Tree but not the olive oil and olives witch seems strange.

I now only buy the 'California Olive Ranch' version that is 100% California grown olives; not the global mix version. Also, I order direct from the COR website; six bottles at a time and free shipping. Better value than buying in the grocery store that way. Yes, still more expensive than some of the budget foreign brands I do not trust, but I consider it money well spent. Prefer to spend my dollars for American production too...

I would normally agree with one country but the bottle you showed was from Carapelli which is a reputable company among the most highly rated major Italian oil producers. If they are using multiple countries it's because a) supplies in Italy and other Mediterranean countries have been difficult due to record temperatures and diaastrously low rainfall and b) they are looking for consistency of taste and so blending carefully. I've been living in Italy for 25 years and have tried numerous oils from across the country. I would have absolute confidence their oil.

I live in Oklahoma, and unfortunately there are no real grocery store like what I grew with in Texas. So I have to use Amazon for several products. I've done some searches and have found good reviews for the following brand. Atlas 750 mL Organic Cold Press Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Polyphenol Rich from Morocco. Yes there are several better brands out there, but they start at over $50 a bottle and living paycheck to paycheck, those brands will never make it to my current shopping list.

What ticks me off, is pure olive oil is so expensive, that the common person can't afford it. I use the ones I buy for baking and frying mainly. I don't like a strong olive taste, so I buy the EVOO. It may not be from one country, but it is the only ingredient it shows on the bottle and it is for baking and frying. It is in the medium range of oil prices, but I am trying to give my husband the healthiest we can afford.
