Interesting results. I expected to see wrinkles from the fabric. In a community studio the oily/greasy products may not be wise to use with molds. Sprig molds are a good place to use cornstarch, tap out excess. I made a pounce for the cornstarch. Take an old tee shirt scrap and bind it up with a rubber band after putting some powder in it. On a smooth surface I think the cornstarch slides down the walls too easily. I like the cheese cloth or plastic wrap for slump molds because they allow for easy adjustment to get the clay centered properly. The cheese cloth marks on the back are easy to smooth off. Thank you for all of your videos. They are very helpful.

Hi Marie, beautifully presented and informative video, as per usual. Personally, I use and reuse my plastic wrap in conjunction with the corn starch which I brush off as much as possible before placing it into my bisque fire. I’ll have to look into toilet and tissue paper since that does burn off cleanly. Thanks for taking the time to create this video. BTW, I meant to also let you know I purchased the Amagic fan brushes, per your recommendation and they are really good brushes! What a great find. Thank you.

The timing for you posting this could not be more perfect, I was struggling with my clay sticking to my tools and looked up how to prevent it just now. Thanks for the tips and examples!

Loved this information. I've heard that pam and w-d40 can cause some molds to deteriorate so use caution 😊

Hello I love your detailed videos ❤ thank you. I have a question about underglazes. When I paint underglaze on bisqueware which has textured depth (like stamps), the underglaze bursts after I fire for clear glazing. I sponge the excess underglaze or dilute it but it happens anyway. What do you recommend? Thank you
@PotteryCraftersАй бұрын
Thank you. 💖 It may be the underglaze. What brand of underglaze are you using?

Interesting! I’ve been using cornstarch on smooth surfaces with good results. You sure get a cleaner, crisper impression without cloth or plastic between the clay and the texture. Like you, I don’t like the nasty greasy film you have to deal with during oil cleanup. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for sharing. I thought it was an interesting experiment too. 😊

Thank you, Marie! Appreciate you testing so many possibilities. Have you discovered you can reuse the cling wrap? Or do you discard it after each use?
@PotteryCraftersАй бұрын
Thank you MaryJean. Great question! Yes I will reuse it as long as I can. 💖

I have a video request. I cant find a good answer anywhere. My wife got a good deal on a kiln. A Cress FX23p in great condition. But it has no shelves or supports inside. We paid $200 for it, but looking at shelves online there is a large variety. The pricing is also all over the place. What are good shelves and spacers, and how much should I expect to pay. We also need to tools. Any good beginner kits?
@PotteryCraftersАй бұрын
Great suggestion! I'll look into it. The shelves are different prices because of the material they are made of. Here is the link to your kiln shelf kit. There are 2, they are a very good price kilnfrog.com/products/cress-kilns-fx23f?srsltid=AfmBOop7JwrA5Hhm4nugh2d2Vp-MJs_Ie5DB_sYGu0_zwtjax3lanXaC Kiln shelves will range from $50 all the way to $1000 depending on the size and material. Here is a link to my video on all you need just to started at home kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3LHlJuepK9gh6c 😊

It appeared that you tried the aerosol lubricant WD-40, but called it 10W-40, which is a class of motor oil. Either way, with so many other suitable options, I wouldn’t choose anything as hazardous and flammable as a petroleum product.

Yes. It was suggestion from other potters. I would not use either. The auto close caption called it 10W-40. 👍
