I used to use fabric softener on my synthetic wigs! Now that actually makes sense, because it's designed to put a layer on your clothes, and because synthetic wigs are pretty much the same material (plastic), it made the wigs feel really soft! Would I use it on human hair wigs though? Absolutely not 😂

So many of these are “in a pinch, you can use X as Y…” or things that are meant for a very specific situation (like when I line cook didn’t realize I was crouched down cleaning and pushed all the old French fries onto my head & I had to use diluted Dawn to get that out), or have a grain of truth but have been very distorted. I think the “scalp training” thing comes from people washing less, which means not over-stripping, which means less of your body trying to compensate (by producing more oil), which means a less grease. I didn’t understand that concept until my dermatologist told me the same thing about my under-moisturized oily face. I still get super greasy in the heat, but I’m much less oily under normal circumstances since I started adding the moisturizer instead of forcing my face to do it for me.

My dermatologist says that cosmetic scalp care products are completely pointless, and some can even cause a dreadful medical condition. For example, she warned me against scalp scrubs because they can cause micro-tears on the scalp and create the perfect environment for fungal and bacterial infections, especially if you’re using a scalp oil too. If you have any dramas with your scalp, as I personally have, a dermatologist can give you pharmacological, lifestyle, and dietary advice to address your particular condition.

I think the person who claimed fabric softener could be used in place of conditioner misunderstood her hairdresser. I HAVE heard that if you are suffering with very static-y hair (as when you’ve under-conditioned your hair), that running a dry fabric softener sheet lightly over top of your hair can resolve that “finger in the light-socket” look. However, it’s NOT a replacement for proper conditioning, and in no circumstance should liquid softener be applied to hair! 🙄

I have the baby fine hair and have always used different serums to “grow it out”. Recently I watched a video on this and it made absolute sense. My hair is still growing at a normal rate which is apparent as I need to get root touch ups every 1-2 months. Instead we need to focus on the ends of our hair which are the oldest part and often wind up splitting which is the reason our hair stops growing instean of focusing on the scalp and these hair growth serums we need to take care of the middle section and especially the ends using leave in condition after every shampoo and using pil on the ends. I’ve just begun doing this so too early to tell but my hairdresser recently recommended a haircare line called truss and wow!! I have really noticed a difference in the overall health of Mymensingh hair. Just the shampoo and conditioner but they also sell a heat protectant as well as a treatment called night spa which I just used for the first time (sparingly from the midsection focusing on the ends. Wow is all I can say. This products have been a total game changer for me. If you get a chance, I love for you to check them out and do a review. I think you will be extremely impressed.

I also have baby fine hair, and one of the most important factors for me is pre-wash care and taking special care to not apply very much product. I brush out my hair super well before showers, and I take care to clean well, but not to be rough. I use oil very very very sparingly/if at all, and I trim my ends at least every 4 weeks. I also brush/comb my hair in sections to avoid snapping. Only use a comb when wet.,. Never a brush. And I stopped using brushes with plastic bristles. I use wood. I also almost never use any heat whatsoever. My hair HATES heat- esp recovering from previous damage

One thing I‘m always confused about is WHEN to use ACV rinse. From my understanding, when properly dilluted, its acidic properties are supposed to close the cuticles and remove build-up at the same time and should therefore be used AFTER conditioning. But I regularly read that people use it with their shampoo or before conditioner to avoid the ACV from stripping the hair from natural oil, so maybe use it BEFORE conditioning? 😅

The whole hair training thing aggravates me. In the curly community, it is done so the hair can "memorize" curl form... boooy! If you have to do this, are you sure you have curly hair? How can you train something that is dead and the shape is defined from you follicles? I finish my styling in 5 minutes and then leave my hair to curl with no need for training. The whole perfeect curly hair trend is just ridiculous. It works if you don't leave your home... ever. Any curly that goes outside wwill have frizz...all it needs is a little wind.😂

I have heard that too, but imagine trying to get corn starch evenly through your hair vs using dry shampoo

I have used arrowroot powder (very similar to corn starch) in a pinch and it worked. You have to rub it into your scalp a bit and do a good brushing to get rid of the white cast. It washed out easily too. Edit to add: I use a makeup brush to lightly apply it on my roots. Too much is a disaster.

@AbbeyYung Hello, I just recently found you and subscribed. I feel like you might be the right one to ask since you are willing to do research on the scientific side. Trying to boil down my question without telling you a crazy amount of stories. Bottom line I have found a lot of the products that have worked so well for me with my hair and sometimes skin and make up, turned out to have endocrine disrupting ingredients. I am 52 and now reaping what I have sown with all these endocrine disrupting things I’ve had in my life. Removing them, I am getting much healthier, however, the products don’t work as well. What are your thoughts on healthy ingredients for women that do not disrupt hormones, but also work well?

I heard when using Apple Cider Vinegar, you dilute - say 1 part ACV to 3 parts water. And I thought it’s good to use after coloring to keep the color intact. Any truth to this? Oh and my mom has used fabric softener on her wigs in the past, but not anymore & certainly NEVER on her hair - EEK!

For anybody saying ‘but they use dawn on the ducks and they’re fine” 1. You aren’t a duck…they have feathers and you have hair. 2. They don’t really know that it’s that safe because most animals post oil spill die even after being “cleaned”

I don't think most of the people using ACV are using pure ACV. Maybe someone who misunderstood the method did that but the people I see explaining it dilute it in water. And one person uses it after cleansing their hair with rhassoul clay. IJS there is a pretty big difference between applying pure ASV directly to the hair and rhassoul clay cleans followed by a diluted ACV rinse.

Yes, we didn't have scalp health-related products 20 years ago like we do today in the WEST because if you look at eastern people, especially women they have had long healthy hair for ages. Ask them about their hair care routine and they will tell you it's hair oiling and using some sort of a protein source. Coming from a Southeast Asian background myself, hair oiling was the most beneficial thing you could have done to your hair and the proof is in the pictures. I have pictures and records of women in our family from 100s of years ago and the secret to their healthy hair is hair oils. Sure they didn't bleach their hair or use heat on their hair like we do today but being exposed to UV rays, dirty water, and polluted air to name a few have been there. I am not saying hair oiling is the only fix to all hair health issues but your opinions seem to be rooted very much from a Western perspective. Whoever comes across my comment I beg you to start oiling your hair and it will change your life. I have personally sent people before and after pictures of my own hair because I suffer from PCOS and hair loss came with it as a price to pay for hormonal issues. My PCOS and hormonal issues are getting worse each day but my hair has been the healthiest it has ever been only and only from hair oiling. I changed absolutely nothing in my routine aside from oiling my hair. Unless someone has allergies to the oils they decide to put on their scalp I really don't see why there's such fear of using hair oils.

I agree with you re oiling but I think eastern and asian people have much stronger hair than european for example so protein should be used with caution by as it can cause breakage from overuse.

Don't you think most of the healthy long thick hair you see in a lot of south and southeast Asian women is mostly down to genetics though lol I mean I oil my hair, I'm not saying it's not helpful but I think it's mostly genetics when it comes to the hair you see in countries like India
@monab9080
@monab9080 Жыл бұрын
@@InimeKai I think people tend to think it's due to genetics more than it actually is. You can look up genetics reports on the Southeast Asian population and there is no research/studies out there that says Southeast Asians definitely have long healthy hair due to genetics. However, that's the most common thing we hear about our hair in the West which is a big misconception

@@monab9080 but isnt there also cultural reasons for growing hair long there? I mean very long hair just isn't as popular in the west on the whole. I think it's about more than just oiling lol
