I just LOVE watching you! After watching a couple of your videos on how to walk them, my dog has done amazingly with training. She was like Ava on walks, without the aggression. She's an almost 2 year old goldendoodle, so not a small dog to handle. She would knock me off my feet all the time. I've bought a shock collar. She would get out and run around the neighborhood and play "dodge," as she's super quick I could never grab her until a stranger came or she gave up. She has turned around for the better!! I'm working on getting her to sit when I stop walking. I had to physically make her sit for her to get that so she is also clueless about "down." I've been looking for your video on how to do that. We've also worked on not jumping on people. So now water working on the former, and also to stay and what to do when someone comes to the door and walks in (not eun over and jump up and throw her huge body all over the person). Thanks so much for all you do and for sharing your videos to reach people like me!! ❤

Love the fact that you’re a no nonsense trainer. I’m retired military and have been around the more high strung dogs like Belgians and GS. Teaching people the real way to adjust a dogs attitude is inspiring and a breath of fresh air. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched another trainer video on KZbin and said you’re an idiot. well since you are well known with the malinois: do u have any tips for when my dog keeps on lunging barking and even biting humans animals cars scrooters bikers etc? All i know is that she hasnt been socialized at all, only knew a small grass field behind her house and never been in contact other then the (previous) owner. She is 14 months old and i got her for 6 days with me now. i dont know what happend in her past, previous owner probly aint telling me everything, and the breeder acts like he never breeded dogs etc. very strange. anways: strong fixation from far ahead, leash pulling, ears forward, front feet positioned and leaning forward then goes straight into lunging and biting. I tried standing in front of her and the dog she is fixating/focussing on(she just avoid and ignore me and lunge). i tried treats (she ignores and goes into lunge). i tried walking away completely(she turns around to the dog and continue to lunge, all of this with barking too) i tried distance and standing still(she ignores me and keeps on fixating on the dog, wont respond to me at all, sometimes taking my treat but it doesnt draw her focuss away either) Since she needs to get used to her new enviourment, i try to take her into the same streets so she wont be over stimulated, getting fimilliar with it. But, i do notice even though i take the same routes/streets, she CONTINIOUSLY sniff the same street(s) over and over again, in such a crazy hectic way that i think is not normal at all. first i thought its because its all new, but in these 6 days i took her more then 7 times a day on that same street, and it didnt change this behaviour at all.. its like she is on crack and VERY sensitive to the traffic sounds. some times i petted her in the hope to calm down, and when my hand made contact with her body, it looked like she was startled, but immediately continues the hectic sniffing. looking around all the time too, looking backwards, trying to walk in front of me when we approach corners, when a human comes from that corner she barks and stays in front of me. a guy who was just running came from behind us- to pass us by and continue his run- said ''Excuse me'' and passed by, dog was walking on the same side as the runner, as he was passing by in a split second: she bit his arm. so sorry for this long story. sigh.. at home she is sooo sweet but outside this above is constantly.

Since your post, Garret has created very in depth paid content for dog training. The $19.99/mth membership gives you access to 'The Perfect Walk", access to his weekly live training and Q&A, membership forum access and private Facebook groups to ask questions and get help, and it gives you discounts on any other course. I think the worst video I've seen of dog training was some guy (not Garret) who was a paid dog trainer. This guy was in a customers' home, trying to train their dog to sit. He LITERALLY gave the dog the command to sit, and then waited for 17 minutes until the dog sat, then gave the dog a food reward. First, any dog trainer should know (probably the first thing they should know) is dogs live in 3-5 second blips. If you do not deliver the reward or correction in that time (preferably in

Hello Mr. American Standard. I recently adopted a dog from the pound (animal shelter). On walks in my apartment complex, he would bark and lunge at people. I became scared I would be evicted, because in my lease it has clauses against aggressive dogs. Today I took him on a walk using the herm sprenger, instant difference. The pulling was over, immediately. Also he encountered some people. He lunged and barked. I gave him a pretty good yank on the leash, and he stopped behaving like that immediately. Then on the way back to my apartment, there was 2 people screaming at each other, he looked at them, but did not bark or lunge, I gave him several corrections, to which he immediately responded. This video and the herm sprenger products are livesavers!! Thank you sir!!

Can’t even put in words what your videos have done for me and my 15 month old Doberman. The prong collar and your directions have been a game changer. His leash walking is amazing and we are currently working on reacting to other dogs. He doesn’t always react to another dog on leash but I don’t want him reacting at all. Thanks doesn’t begin to say how we feel!!

I have a 11 month old Doberman and watching all his videos now, they are fantastic. The leash pulling has been a night and day difference, not 100% but so much better. Like you I am now focused on reaction. My Dob can sometimes be just ok and ignore somewhat then other times he goes wild lunging towards dogs and sometimes people 10 yards away. Very unpredictable!

I love that i found this channel, we have a 4 year old Aussie doodle that was my first dog i ever trained and for the most part he is a great dog with the basics bit was a covid puppy and wasnt socialized like he should have been. He has dog friends around the neighborhood and plays well with them. So we decided to get another Aussie and these videos are a huge help we also joined a local dog training club. But our biggest problem now is the two "get along" but they dont know how to play together without one getting upset (mainly the puppy gets aggressive) i stop the and separate but it hasn't gotten better over the courseof this week

Hey, thank you so much! I started training my dogs in the way you showed here, and in some other videos, and it has been a complete life-changer. Additionally, one of my dogs whines terribly - almost as much as the dog in this video barked. Would you say say the whining could be treated similarly? To me, it seems like she has terrible anxiety - her mother acted the exact same way. Whether in public around people, or out in nature around squirrels, etc., the whining is unbearable. When I started the changing-directions technique yesterday, her whining did seem to stop and she was not pulling. I guess my main question is, is this technique able to treat chronic whining long-term, similarly to how it treats the barking of this dog? Are whining and barking similar behaviors simply portrayed differently? Thanks!!

Thank you for making this video! This was the first video I found of a dog that is actually as reactive as my rescue. My dog is a 22 lb terrier mix who lunges, cries, whines, barks, and twists on her leash to get to other people and dogs. She is young, they thought she was a year and a half but now we think she is under a year. She is very stressed and is very sweet like her dog but turns into a psycho dog. This was helpful, I will have to get a different collar for her and try these techniques and see how it works. Thank you!

My dog is ok with people and most of the dogs but some dogs she know that barks at her a lot for long time she starts to be annoyed by them and when she encounter them she wanna go at them. From some other yt channel (dont remember which) i got informathion that i shouldnt correct dog with prong collar when dog is in this state so i tried lure her away with treats or just by me walking away. It works in the moment but when she meets that type of dog again its same thing. I see you use prong to correct this behavior as well so Im gonna try it when opportunity comes, will let know in comments how it went.

… I hated the slip lead (I felt like my dog could not breathe and he was gasping for air) but I am wondering what do you think about the head collar instead of the prong collar? I think it might be one step before the prong collar but maybe I won’t have to go there with my dog. His problems are lead reactivity, pulling and lounging towards dogs to play with them. He’s just over 9.5 months old GSD so still a puppy who looks like a big dog now and most people are afraid of GSD although mine is good with kids, people and dogs but when they see him run towards their dog (and he can be really fast) they get scared.. I tend to walk him off lead if there is no one around and clip him back on when there are people with other dogs on a lead nearby but sometimes someone will come out of nowhere and this is when he seems to scare some people. With all due respect if he was an aggressive dog he would be walked in a muzzle and on a lead at all times (I was growing up with an aggressive GSD so I know) but he is a puppy with a very friendly personality who is just playful. As he’s still in training he is not listening to me always 100% yet.. I really want him to have a better life than my old GSD and that is why I let him be a puppy and be happy but also trying to teach him that he can’t play with other dogs unless I let him (after agreeing with the other dogs owner it’s okay for them to play together) …

Hello, I am very interested on what methods worked out here since my dog has exactly same issue. I also have a "She" who is very afraid of people and she will bark at whoever comes too close, she also lunges at dogs (but I am working on that and it is getting better). She has never bite or attempted to bite anyone, she just barks and backs out with fear, but I am afraid the more confidence she builds she might start trying to bite and I wanted to avoid that. I would like to know what worked out here the better, was it only the prong collar and corrections? I have not used it and wanted not to, but if it doesn't change I will have no other option. I usually take some treats (fortunately she is the type of dog that loves food and makes it easier) and try to take her attention to me and the treats rather than what is around her, but I have the feeling once the treats are gone she turns into the same, meaning that is a short term solution and not really a fix. She also is a disciplined dog, she listens as I have built some discipline with her already. There is also this "Gentle leader" but have not used it yet, I have only applied corrections with the leash which do work sometimes but not always. BTW, this is a dog I adopted from the shelter and has no specific breed.

I'm so happy I found your channel! I recently adopted an 18-month-old St Bernard mix. She was taken away from her previous owner for neglect. She is a slightly nervous dog, and your training videos have been so helpful. The only thing I can't seem to break her out of is when she meets strangers, she lets out a low growl (no teeth). The growl has never escalated, and she allows the stranger to pet her after a few sniffs. Do you have any suggestions on how to break this? I want to work with her to the point she does not growl or even she's happy to meet strangers.

You explain things very well. I can tell you that I did not want to resort to a prong collar. I trained my GSD with a choker then graduated to just a soft leash slipped loose around his neck Our almost 2 year old, STUBBORN "Malinois" is about to start wearing a prong. He's currently on a choker that works well, except when he sees another dog (heavy sigh) thank you!

Not to be the dog trainer police but I just hate misinformation being spread. The choker is worse than a pinch collar(prong collar), it has no limit to its constriction and is what will cause the trachea on a dog to collapse. The pinch collar is like the Pitbull or Rottweiler with bad perception followed by misinformation over many years. As anything can cause harm when misused even food! I was hesitant to use a herm sprenger and still am but only use it if necessary. I am soooo glad I never went the choke collar route, if anything I prefer a martingale but to each there own. I advise to do your due diligence and research as much as you can. ✌️

@@DadDnumba1 you're not supposed to "choke" them. They learn to listen to the quick "click click" sound of the choker. For a Shepherd it takes about five or ten minutes to train on one. Then you can walk them with your pinky. If you're not knowledgeable using one, don't use a choker

Does a gentle lead work as well as a prong collar? Obviously they are very different but since the gentle lead directs the head rather than just a normal collar, I wonder if I can do something similar

I’m curious what part of south Florida your located in? I’m in the Tampa area and my 8 month old Olde English Bulldogge could really use some good training. Are you able to teach them to stop chewing and eating things. My boy is always eating something he shouldn’t and then becomes lethargic trying to pass it. I’ve had to spend way too much money at the vet and I can’t afford to keep doing so. He is also very hyper and doesn’t do well with kids because he wants to jump all over them and he is 60lbs.

My aussie behaves the same way. We're not sure what caused it as our male has had the same kind of exposure to people and other dogs. He is the sweetest pup but our female gets tense and extremely vocal. I believe it's a confidence issue within the dog.

I have a two year old German shepherd mix that will hyper fixate on both dogs and people.... sometimes she is calm around people and will ignore them... other times like today she will bark / try to lunge at them until they pet her... after they pet her / she sniffs them, she shuts up... on walks she tends to pull really hard if she sees another dog and goes nuts with the barking and whining... her hair rarely stands up, only when she is around excessively huge dogs like a great Pyrenees.... do you have any advice for me? she went to training classes and did really well with her trainer / being around other dogs... but for some reason she is starting to revert back to normal even though we have been doing everything they wanted us to do...

Hello, I wanted to say you have some great training videos. We have a Border Collie/Auzie Mix and he looks mostly like a Border collie minus the tail; that is the only way you can tell he is a mix. Given that he was perhaps the two smartest dog breeds but also stubborn breeds in him as well. We have him excellently leash trained, he heals well and even around kids/adults he is fine and very obedient. He "Checks In regularly" as you stated that is a good sign. However, the only problem/issue I have with this dog is his reactiveness towards other dogs. We think because when he was young aprox 8 months old my wife took him to a dog park, and he was attacked. So, its our only problem with him, 98% of the time he is totally obedient and walks well on a leash. It took us maybe 1 day to train him and about two weeks for the basic commands but when he sees other dogs, he wants to eat their faces off. I am thinking should pay attention close to how he checks in with us while walking him on the leash and when he sees other dogs/cats. We also have the spiked training leash and have always used that. When we let him go off leash, we always use an electronic corrective collar just in case he takes off or another dog comes around and we want to heal him back to us. So after watching your videos I think what you are saying is that we need for him to pay attention to us and play close attention how he is reacting to use or checking in with us? Thank you, and these are excellent videos!

My dog is just like this one just less severe. When we go out into the yard and she sees a person walking the street or a neighbor in their own yard she will immediately fire the "omega alarm" XD I give her leash corrections but it's difficult to calm her down. Once she's quiet we go to the street and if she sees someone walking she will repeat the same thing- bark like crazy until they leave. Interesting part is she only does that if we're in the yard or close to the house. During the walk she wont bark at people but she gets nervous whenever someone's walking in our direction. If someone's walking behind us it's even worse because she will constantly keep turning around to look at them. If i stop walking she will just stare at them and get even more uncomfortable. It's been like that since she was a puppy. She was scared of everything. People, dogs, noises. If we were outside and she heard someone talking she'd immediately run into the house. She's a year old now, she's not scared of dogs anymore but still reactive to people, and especially if we have any guests i have to lock her inside another room. It's really annoying because I'm correcting her every time she reacts but i don't see any changes

Let's put it this way. I want my dog trained. I will use the means necessary to train her. She is a stubborn malinois, and being only positive just doesn't cut it. Apart from actual abuse (beating my dog), if I have to use some negative reinforcement for her to know I mean business, I will. After all, when I walk down the street and my dog doesn't lunge at u, Mr positive only, ur still.happy right?
