I 100% agree and I learned this lesson HARD! When I first started, I spent 1,100USD (equivalent) on a really well designed aquascape. I'd been saving money for a looong time. Only three months later I felt so dissatisfied I tore it down. Looking back now I really regret it because I can see it was beautiful and only had a tiny amount diatom algae. At the time though I hated and resented it and was so stressed out... I really had to learn how to be patient with myself after that. Today, even my 'weakest' aquascapes are still 6months+ and I love them all and continue to work with them towards satisfaction. Be kind to yourselves! Aquariums are dynamic. They're going to change over time and so are we and we can use the opportunity to grow alongside them!

Thank you for this video! I am new to the hobby myself and my tanks are right around the 2 month mark as well as far as my plants go and they are also far from where is like them to be. It was so nice to see that it takes a lot longer than a couple of months to get a planted tank to look the way you would like it especially without using co2. Also, like you, I like tinkering with my tanks as well which is why I started getting into live plants after I've been keeping fish for a few months. I feel like once you stock your tank with fish that's it but with live plants you can continue to play around with your tanks for so much longer with all the adding of new plants, moving things around, trimming and propagating.

Hey Zenzo, love that you showed some tanks in the process and not just once they were "complete" to your satisfaction. Nice video! This is something not many have touch on extensively. We need alot of patience on planted aquarium, i knew that (from various youtuber)but i did not know the length of the patience you really need. For me when i decide to have no co2 planted tank, i went through multiple video and website to understand some basic on simple planted tank. The first tank to with plant (not aquascaping) did not work out very well. I planted 3 type of plants (anubias nana on rock, Cypt prava and ludwigia super red) on gravel. The Ludwigia did not survive after a month but the res tof the plant did not do well but it growing. Anyway, later on i transfer these survived plant to another tank with Co2, it just GROW fast. After that i started another tank with no Co2 and instead gravel i use Aquasoil and i learn to use liquid fert too. The Tank is planted with Rotala Rotunfolia, Ludwigia Super red, Cypt Wenditii and hair grass. It is worse than my first tank. Due to my inexpreience, in dosing and maintenance, after a couple of month, grass hair died, the whole tank is covered with cyanobacteria. This time round i decided did not teardown and eventually i got rid of cyanobacteria. It took me a couple of months and the survvied plant did not do well until it's 6 months (i learned to dose and maintain better). Since then i added more plant and it doing very well. I must say once the plant take control in the tank, it will just grow well! The place where i live is hot and humid all year round and i realized some of the method i read online does not work well or i need to do more of it instead of the recommended routine.... It really take alot of patience to get things rights and time to work it well. Btw, the 3 tanks you shown today is so much better than the 2 i mentioned above!

Very well said - patience is needed in every aspect of the hobby. We are absolutely a creature of convenience society. Many new innovations that were intended to give the hobbyist more time for their stock, created a false sense of regular maintenance. We can look at bacteria in a bottle, extremely helpful but has also helped with the "right now" mentality. Nothing wrong with taking the time to do it right and know what it takes to do it right. As always, good stuff Lord Tazawa!

Thank you so much for sharing!! Waiting is definitely something I have learned to do. I used to quarantine my fish for 2 weeks and then moved them over, now and I give them a good 4 weeks because we've had a mishap or two with ick. These little fishies are perfectly happy and they're quarantine tank for a little longer and then you know they are safe. I also just took over my daughter's 20 gallon and moved it and I'm turning it into little tiny Nana fish tank. I was going to take a picture of all my tanks cuz I was so excited and was going to put them on to a chat room I'm involved in but then backed up after I took the pictures cuz I thought they're just not as pretty as the one everybody else posts. After watching your video I'm going to go paste them because her tank is the same way it just has a few little tiny fish in there and it's got all these plants I just added that need to grow up and be full but, I still love those little chili rasboras and pygmy corridors in there. They're just a stinking cute I want to share. It's good to see not everybody's tank is perfect and just reminds me that's not why we're doing it anyway. We're doing it cuz we like it and it's enjoyable to watch everything grow and do well and to learn.

Then quickly got into saltwater too as I have an rodi filter. These all taught me from early on to take everything very slow. Still can't get enough of your fish room! It's paradise! Your patience is constantly paying off for sure! Believe it or not, in my big 75G there is Val in there! it's just tiny right now. My Myrio Roramia is explosive with its growth so i've been to fill it in much faster. But the Val, I just keep cutting babies off of the plant in my quarantine tank and putting them in their "forever" homes as they come in. It can be hard to be patient, especially when you know the vision you have, and how much you want it to get there! Like me fighting with the monte carlo tweedei. Someday it will stop looking so ragged. I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Also, Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus was the first fancy scientific plant name that I spoke aloud. haha. Still makes me feel smart when I say it. Plus it has "Octopus" in the name which is just the best. :P

Zenzo, aquascapes don’t solely take month to be so beautiful AND are not made to last a couple of years. I talk about the exchange of soil for the standard aquarist after 2-3 years. We never see the beginning and in particular not the end. Plants/algae change one thing and wait 2-4 weeks. It takes forever but is one of most beautiful things as I learned most while observing the changes. But I have a play tank. 60cm, tons of plants, some snails (I need the shit). The fun part: changing lights, not changing water, over fertilize etc. and observe what happens. I have learned so much in that tank and the knowledge I use in my other tanks. It helps.
@medkow74153 жыл бұрын
Patience! I have three tanks but I had started with some algea issues. I started with changing light timing and intensity. Well after a few months nothing seemed to be changing. In fact in one tank it seemed to be getting worse. Well out of the blue one day the algea was gone. I do still have Green string algea on the top of a piece of driftwood but the top is literally right under the lighting and call me weird but I kind of like the way it flows the stream of the water so I just manually control it when it gets out of hand.
@mrswiggles20123 жыл бұрын
