I have always thought that swinging your arms gives more exercise to your waist area, but after watching your video, I will change my style of walking from now on. You make your videos so much fun whilst giving serious information which is valuable to learn from. You are a wonderful person.

I’ve been told I walk like a robot and been made fun of behind my back while doing so. Now I’m very self conscious everytime I walk from how my arms swing to how fast or slow I walk. I will follow this video but do you have any other tips or suggestions.

same. my legs and core are strong and I don't need to move upper body to walk. My arms swing very little and my upper body just floats without any jerk or up and down movements. This looks very unnatural to others. Even when I record my own video, I feel a bit awkward. Because even I'm not used to seeing someone who walk like this.

How about a video fixing foot placement? When I was 10 I broke my leg, and when the cast came off my gait had changed to compensate for then cast. Although I worked hard to correct foot placement I still after 40+ years catch myself with my foot out of alignment.

I was looking for some kind of advice, I still feel like I have to manually walk, I've been told either that my upper body is a little stiff but its nothing to worry about/not noticeable, or I get told Iook like a stiff robot NPC, no in between. It feels like I have to force my body to move and it's never been comfortable, I've had this issue since 7th grade, I am now in grade 12. I even went to my doctor and she said it was fine, but it doesn't feel like my body is in sync even walking down to grab a glass of water is uncomfortable, I also went to a foot doctor because I thought maybe it could be a problem that stemmed from my feet but no my arches are fine and I still don't know what to do.

I find that when I walk fast, at about 128 steps per minute, I prefer to bend my elbow to about 90 degrees and pump my arms back and forth more dramatically than you illustrate. I do keep my arms close to my body, and they match my foot speed. It seems natural to move arms and feet in synch with each other. Of course when I stroll around, I don't bend my elbows or swing my arms so dramatically.
@barbaraannmiller170 Жыл бұрын
It's my understanding that for brisk/fast walking the arms are supposed to be held differently just as with runners who hold their arms differently from those engaged in relaxed walking. I do brisk walking for exercise and I definitely have a very different arm position and swing from when I'm simply walking to get from one place to the next.

I am a 63 yo just diagosed with Parkinsons. I have right arm tremor and stiffness. Recently noticed my right arm does not swing as normal like the left. Q: Does normal arm swing result from totally relaxed muscles in the arm or is it muscles being fired in coordination with the legs? Thanks so much!

I saw a video that said we should swing our arms more when we are walking in order to get better exercise. Hence, while the Japanese man certainly looked strange and I wouldn't normally do what he was doing, when I walk for exercise, unless you explain more clearly and specifically about this, I will continue to swing my arms with more movement than normal.
@Uprighthealth Жыл бұрын
This is a marginal amout of extra exercise. You'd be much better served lifting light-medium weights rather than making your gait awkward and inefficient, in my opinion.
