About Rosa voda (water), rosa means dew in serbian. Rose is Ruža. But i dont think they are collecting dew either when bottling. :)
@HandzelTravelАй бұрын
Thanks for the explanation, we were confused because the English menu also had this name and we thought it would be water with rose taste 😅

Are you Polish from Poland or Russians from Poland!? Because you checked out all the russian run cafeterias in Belgrade! Plus, you make sirniki and ordered it in the shop.. .which is typical russian pastry!?
@HandzelTravel2 ай бұрын
We didn't plan on visiting any specific places, we just checked out whatever was along our walk. But it turned out that in most places, the staff wanted to talk to us in Russian, assuming we understand this language 🤷♀️🤷
@HandzelTravel2 ай бұрын
Besides that, we cook a lot of different cuisines at home. For example, making Pisang Goreng doesn't make us Indonesian 🤭

Belgrade isn't a good example for a Serbian kitchen. You must go south or western Serbia and then you can see and taste the origin of Serbian food.

Kajmak ( I believe that word has Turkish origins . like many others in Balkan) is milk fat (fermented) , with some salt. If you ever get to cook milk from the cow (I mean , not store bought) you'll see that fat floating on top of the milk. When you remove that - you get skinned milk. Meat that you got with sausages is called "cevapi" (plural - Balkan version from Turkish "kebab") . Throughout Balkan it has different taste , depending on a type of meat and combination of different kinds of meat. Grilled and roasted meat (all kinds) and other dishes with meat are , kind off , perfected in Serbia . Taste is dependent mostly on quality of the meat (and we do cherish natural , good quality ingredients , preferably not processed by industry) , not so much on spices (like in some other cultures). Water you've ordered is not called "roast" , but "Rosa" , which means dew (condensation droplets you can see early in the morning on the plants ) and it is one the purest waters in the world (minus plastic packaging ) - close to the distilled water in purity. Actually , we have a dish with "roast water" (grease from roasting meat , which is called "pretop" , or moca (mocha)) and it's called "komplet lepinja" (lepinja is round type of bred , that you got with your cevapi). Gyros is Greek dish and "burger" is called "pljeskavica" here. Other than that , we do have other (cooked) dishes , which are very tasty and fulfilling and our cuisine is result of different influences over time , sometimes mixed , with our own "twist" (complicated history). Cafe is Russian (there were quite a few new ones opened in last year and a half , or two years) and depending on location , mostly Russian are visiting and they speak only Russian. Though , locals started to visit too , so staff is learning Serbian language. Those tend to be a little more expensive . Supermarkets are convenient , but , if you visit again - go to the green market. It is cheaper and better quality (ajvar may be more expensive , but home made). Also , ajvar can be "mild" , or "hot" (you said "spicy") and somewhere in between. Mild one is labeled "blag" , or "blagi" , while hot is labeled "ljuti" (which literally means - angry in south Slavic languages ). Good luck with your travels !
