Thanks so much for hanging out and watching this chat about art block. Which tips resonated with you? I'd love to hear!

All the tips were absolutely relevant. When I don't feel like drawing, I never draw instead I indulge in other hobbies like playing flute, spinning staff, folding paper planes and origami. This gives me a break and makes me want to draw again. Thank you for this wonderful video. 🙏🙏🙏

I've been trying some large "automatic drawing"...making shapes, lines, and tones on newsprint with conte; no restrictions or expectations. It's freeing and sparks a desire to draw more

I love to hear that! Yeah, for me smearing paint abstractly always was super freeing, too.

Hello, I am a new subscriber. I found your channel half an hour ago, and I am happy that you have a video like this. I was suffering from art block for a month, but I got better yesterday. It was terrible. I sometimes started thinking, what if I didn't want to draw anymore😔😔

Hi!! So happy you're here! Ugh, it can be so painful to be in that art block funk. You know, that question of "what if I didn't want to draw anymore" is very powerful. I wonder how it made you feel and what came up in you when you let your mind go there. If you're up for it I'd now gently probe and ask myself "what thoughts have been keeping me from drawing? What would I tell myself anytime I was just about to sit down and get my sketchbook out?" Finding that out will be a huge gold mine because it will show you what needs to change in your practice to make it fun and joyful again. Drawing is a wonderful way to stay connected to ourselves and the world but sometimes we can get stuck if we lose our connection to what makes it joyful for us. That doesn't mean we can't be disciplined and rigorous, too. But if we only work work work and never spend time to nourish the creative part in us it will always end in burn out and art block. I'm so happy to hear you're back to drawing again. Keep me posted on how it goes. Are you on IG?

I think the concept of 'Play' is such an underrated tool for artists, especially when we take it up as a career. It keeps curiosity alive! 🌻

Right?! All of a sudden we need to be "serious"... And it doesn't lead anywhere worthwhile.

That makes me really happy to hear. Please take care of yourself. Depression is a formidable foe and needs treatment. Instead of us beating ourselves up for not creating we need to focus on getting well and doing things that nourish us!

I became severally blocked few years ago after finishing my useless design college. I though that having a college portfolio and a piece of paper will get me hired in no time. But, I got rejected. A ton of times.Because of that I started to believe that perfectionism is okay. Thanks for the tips.

Funny, I was just thinking about this a week or so ago. You must have ESP. I like doodling, concentrating on the shading so that it apears 3D. I find it really relaxing. I think that the exercise is the key. Also finding things that are interesting and fun so that drawing does not become a chore but a pleasure again. The tip that i am going to try is to draw something different, to learn different skills.

Hi there, so glad you've found your way to drawing and that my videos are helping you out. In the beginning you don't want to overthink it and draw as much as possible, while paying attention to what your main frustrations with your current results are. Once you have a better sense of your limitations and desires you can begin to direct your practice more and more. Take a look at my Sketch Session videos and draw along with them. I'll link two that are a good starting point (heads up, the audio isn't as good since I was just starting out then, but the content is good. Also scrub in about 10-12 minutes past the waiting screen to get to the beginning of the session) Let me know how it goes and happy drawing to you! kzbin.info/www/bejne/moGafmyajL-EY5Y , kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4DTlaelqpxlkKs

@@CarolinPeters You know, my main focus right now has been figure drawing and what not but I feel like just getting a grasp on what the drawing fundamentals are in general and how to efficiently practice them on a daily basis is something I’ve always looked for. But personally, from you, anything to do with gesture haha gesture drawing is hard as nails for me

Also the sound and feel of pencil on paper. When I got a tablet I forgot why I like drawing so much. I do enjoy the feeling and features of a tablet sometimes, but pencil and paper is stimulating every time.
