That sums it up nicely. The thing about From Software´s Games is that they aren´t really hard, but made unnecessarily hard by the close combat fanatics. Elden Rind is just as much about planning and coming up with a tactic as it is about memorizing attack patterns and fine tuning your reflexes, so don´t leave out half of the tools at your disposal and complain about loosing against supposedly weaker players in PvP.

I started my very playthrough of Elden Ring this week (also my first FS game) and before I bought the game I did tons of research on how I wanted to approach it. For example I started with the samurai build so I have 2 uchigatanas before even leaving Limgrave. I also used some QoL mods like having a map overlay, FoV adjuster to push my camera back, and keeping my runes if I die. I didn’t change any of the core gameplay mechanics like changing the difficulty or giving myself every weapon and item in the game. Guess what it hasn’t affected my enjoyment of the game. I just wanted to fully experience the difficulty while waste as little time as possible. It still took me 2 hours of getting pounded into the ground before I beat Godrick with no summons, and an hour before that trying to figure out where the hell im going in Stormveil Castle. People are way too overzealous over this and other souls games. If you’re someone that likes spending hours blindly while using non meta everything, more power to you. I on the other hand am having a blast being able to just know where I need to go and level up steadily, while actually focusing on something I enjoy which is fighting bosses with the best build I can come up with at the time.

I would say it's fine to use these mechanics like Ash summons on the first play through. After I beat the game with no help. I went back and played with summons again just for fun and I can say without a doubt that the game is extreamly easy with them. My advise play the game you want to but if you are up for the challenge start a new save and play without summons. I think the reason people "gatekeep" these games is because the way they are intended to be played is often the most interesting and touching. Souls fans have talked all about some of their thoughts on games like Dark Souls 1, where their experience was unlike anything ever achieved in gaming, before or after, because they went through the game with nothing and prevailed through sheer willpower. It wasn't through cheesing, summoning, looking up items, grinding, or any of that. That's not to say they abandoned those tools entirely, but those tools were just that, tools, not crutches. I believe the best experience one can get out of these games is to understand the combat and strategy, and rise against adversity by mastering them. When Souls players see people cheesing bosses or relying on Ashes of War or summons to win, I think they mostly feel sadness, because for the most part, Fromsoft games can be very uninteresting when played like any old hack and slash game. Maybe they don't want the incredible experience of overcoming harsh adversity to be lost on some players. Though, I don't guarantee this is true. This is just my guess.

Intended? If it is an item or game mechanic it is intended to be used. Not my problem if anyone did not used certain items to defeat a boss and I did and did faster with those items. I won't argue that people shouldn't be able to play how they want with what is given to them. What I will argue is that the huge outliers should be nerfed to retain the fundamental goal of these games however. Which they are proving they don't want the extreme cheese by nerfing stuff 2 weeks into the game, it just isn't as impressive and I don't see how people can get enjoyment out of such easy wins. Their are games for people who want an easy time and from games should not be one of those types of games so I hope they nerf even more stuff until people have to put some effort in. Bleed should be next in my opinion but that's just me. What this will do is if they make another game and it is more linear and more difficult people will just whine and I am so sick of those people...
@BillytheSkwid2 жыл бұрын
I’m fine with this opinion. I’ve never been a big fan of the nerf it philosophy because nerfs tend to take away fun. Outliers like what they did this most recent patch make sense (even if it was at the expense of the speedrun/challenge run community). What I will say, is it’s on FromSoftware to determine this, no one else. Even if from hadn’t nerfed things and vanilla was forever the balance of the game, I don’t think it’s fair for one player to tell another player they are doing it wrong for using mechanics in the game. I get that there is a chunk of the player base that holds themselves to standards, and that’s fine, I just don’t tend to vibe with those standards being projected onto others ya know?
@celiafrostborn2 жыл бұрын
@@BillytheSkwid Fair enough, I can be more specific however. Spirit summons and even magic are cool in my book, at base their is nothing wrong with these. Once you get into the super cheap ways of combat that like one shot bosses or make the game so easy you put in basically no effort is when I have an issue. The last thing I want is for the game to be seen as so easy and so accessible that the super casual people who abused the OP stuff get it in their head all future games will be like this. It would set a bad precident and give them more ammo to shoot at the people who actually enjoy these games being hard. I think we can all agree the easy mode debate has been beaten dead by this point so from needs to stay vigilant and nerf the things that stick out to much for the sake of the current and future player experience being a moderate challenge.

The more viable play styles the better imo, but I get what you are saying. And luckily the game breaking stuff seems to be getting the bat and the cool fun stuff is being brought to the front. @@celiafrostborn Incorrect. If you want this game to be hard, you have ways of doing it. Play naked, use fists, and try for a no hit run. You literally can have a fist fight with mimic tear bosses and turn that into a fun brawl. Hell I just watched a guy do a "crafting weapons only" run of this game. I have seen people beat Melania naked with a pot on their head. What "sets a bad precedent" is people that like the game being hard and keeping it that way and forcing "casual players" out of the community. That is literally gatekeeping and unacceptable. I am a Team Fortress 2 player, we have people like you in our community. I have 12k hours and am one of the richest people in that community. Yet I started as a free to play. This game back in 2007 used to be a paid service, not a monthly thing like WoW but still a game you had to buy. Years down the road Valve, the company that made it decided to make the game "Free to Play", so you can just download it and have fun. Tons of people, just like you, whined and pissed and moaned saying that it "ruined their experience" and shit. In reality, it didnt. It just made them not special. That is what this is about. It is not going to "kill dark souls" to install a difficulty slider. It will just make you not feel special, and that is not what this game is about. It is about making fun builds in a dark fantasy RPG that was based on Berserk. If you need a cookie to feel like a special snowflake you dont need a game, you need a therapist. Thank you for coming to my TED talk. Notifications are off, dont bother replying to this. OP is right however, "nerf it" is not a good philosophy, let people enjoy things.
