Are you over age 40 and starting to experience knee pain and stiffness? Then you likely are developing osteoarthritis. This is a progressive condition that can ultimately lead to knee replacement surgery down the road. But it doesn't have to progress. You can slow down or stop the progression of osteoarthritis by applying red light therapy, or phototherapy, to your knee. This will stimulate cartilage cells to start secreting matrix, the material that comprises most of the mass of cartilage. This video explains how to use red light to relieve knee pain and stiffness, and prevent it from advancing. Knee exercises and avoiding heavy pounding forces to your knee, such as that caused by jumping sports is important as well to preserving your knees.

Thank you so much for sharing this comprehensive video! I’ve had persistent knee pain for years and was thrilled to find more information on red light therapy here. My doctor recommended a panel from Future Form Official, a company based in Norway, and I’ve been using it for a few months now. The results have been amazing - the pain relief is noticeable, and it’s much more affordable than other options I’ve looked into. I appreciate that there is a lot of scientific research backing up the efficacy of red light therapy. It's reassuring to know that there's credible evidence behind the relief I'm experiencing. It's great to see others sharing their positive experiences and tips. Thanks again for this valuable resource!

Good afternoon Dr. , how much heat is emitted by the flashlight? I'm looking for something like this but also that emits at least considerable heat 🙌🏻
@painandinjurydoctor
@painandinjurydoctor Жыл бұрын
Hi, the device does generate heat as it has near infrared LEDs in it, but it is not intense heat. The healing is accomplished by the action of the red wavelength of 660nm while the infrared LEDs increase blood circulation with the penetrating heat. Our red light products work in the same way; we have wraps for the knee and shoulder and low back, too pulsedemf.com/collections/red-light-therapy

Infrared is a deep heating modality due to its wavelength. Red light has a wavelength that has different effects on tissues than IR; it seems to initiate cellular activities that promote cell metabolism and thus healing.

Hi, thanks for the question. Infrared light and red light are both electromagnetic waves, with different characteristics in frequency and wavelength which determine their properties. IR is basically radiant heat, and is invisible to the human eye. Red light is visible, and doesn't generate heat. It has a higher frequency and shorter wavelength than IR and is known to have biological effects when it passes through human tissue. IR is mostly a deep heating modality, much like you would use a hotpack, but deeper penetrating. More info on red light can be found on my site, pulsedemf.com

@painandinjurydoctor

Hi, red light gets absorbed by the cells exposed to it. So if you point it to the knee in those positions I showed in this video, cells in the bone, cartilage and tendons (there are very few cells in cartilage and tendons) will be positively affected. Inflammation occurs at blood vessel walls, so the cells that make up the tiny blood vessels will get exposed to the red light as well. You can get this device at PulsedEMF.com. DHL is available for some locations outside the U.S.

I’ve seen several people on YT recommend various types of devices for knee pain to regrow cartilage or reduce inflammation. None have mentioned if wearing pants reduces the ability of the IR light to get into the knee joint. Do you recommend wearing these devices or using your device directly on the skin for most effectiveness?
@painandinjurydoctor
@painandinjurydoctor 11 ай бұрын
If it's red light therapy, it needs to be directly contacting the skin. Our best red light product for the knee is this one pulsedemf.com/collections/red-light-therapy/products/96-led-portable-red-light-therapy-knee-wrap. The "torch" is good for focusing red light on a small area about the size of a quarter. It could be useful for a meniscal tear that is close to the surface of the skin, but I recommend it mostly for arthritic knuckles, small fractures and contusions, etc.

@painandinjurydoctor

Yes because your lamp is infrared, which mainly provides radiant heat, and is at the higher red wavelengths, 700 - 850 nm. The red light torch emits frequencies in the visible red, 630 and 660 nm, and one of the diodes emits heat with the 850 nm LED, which does not appear as red because infrared is not visible. The 630 and 660 nm wavelengths are the ones that have photobiomodulation abilities; i.e. are able to change the cell's physiology. They are available on my site pulsedemf.com.

@@painandinjurydoctor Typo? I think you meant 0.5W. You must be measuring with a solar power meter, which is designed to measure full spectrum light. I measured with a meter callibrated to measure red light, though it's still only an approximate as there's 3 wavelengths emitted by that torch and it can only be callibrated for one. I got 240mW/cm^2. Also, although you can see light through your hand, the effective irradiance drops off dramatically after it penetrates the skin.
